Congratulations to the Lady Blackhawks on their win last
night against Highmore-Harrold, 61-56, to take the 281 Conference Championship.
Leaders: Shelby Selland – 28 points, 12 rebounds; Rachelle Moore – 13 points; Morgan
Selland – 11 points; Rachel Selland – 5 assists, 3 steals.
The boys’ earned a 4th place finish last night in their
281 Conference Tournament, losing to Hitchcock-Tulare, 63-71. Scoring: Davion
Brooks – 6, Todd Stekl – 18, Tyler Krueger – 7, Tucker Kingsbury – 8, Drew
Hinker – 2, Nick Miller – 22.
The C boys’ basketball game against Hanson on Tuesday has
been cancelled. There will just be a JV boys’ game at 6:30 p.m. and a Varsity
boys’ game about 8:00 p.m.
Blackhawk fans: Just a reminder that if you come
for the 7/8th Girls Basketball Tournament on Saturday that Rachelle Moore
is putting on that you must clear the gym after those games are over so the gym
can be cleaned and readied for the Warner basketball games. Admission to the
Moore Tournament does NOT get you into
the SCW vs. Warner games. Plans are to have the doors open for
SCW/Warner games about 2:30 p.m.

WANTED: Sanborn Central is in need of someone to organize
and supervise the spring soccer league for our students. The league is
Woonsocket, Wessington Springs, and Sanborn Central. It involves lining up
coaches for each age group and coaching/supervising all the practices and

be interested. The pay is $800 for the season.

FOUND: A pair of black snow pants on Gary W’s bus; a blue
glove on Buck’s bus; and a long sleeved black Blackhawk basketball t-shirt,
size Youth Medium, with the “Some people want it to happen” saying on the back.

The basketball schedule for Saturday, February 2 at
Sanborn Central against Wolsey/Wessington will be as follows:
2:00 p.m. – JV Girls
3:00 p.m. – JV Boys
4:30 p.m. – Varsity Girls
6:00 p.m. – Varsity Boys
It is Girls and Boys Parents Night as well. Introductions
will start before each varsity game respectively.
Juniors – The Central Electric Youth Tour application
period has begun (ends March 1). To be
eligible, you must be a high school junior who permanently resides within
Aurora, Brule, Buffalo, Jerauld, Sanborn, Miner, Davison, or Hanson counties of

Today is School Pride Day. Everyone should dress

Parents will be notified this afternoon if their student
needs to attend Extra Help Day on Monday.
8th Grade will have Guidance this afternoon.
The JH girls and boys have basketball games tonight at
Wolsey. The girls will play at 6:00 p.m. and the boys when they’re finished.
The Blood Drive that had been scheduled for today at the
school has been cancelled. You are encouraged to donate somewhere else as the
flu season has hit the blood supply pretty hard. Woonsocket has a blood drive
next week. Sanborn Central will have a blood drive in May.

SATURDAY:
A 7/8th Girls Cure Kids Cancer Benefit Basketball Tournament
will be held at Sanborn Central on Saturday as part of Rachelle Moore's Senior
Project. A BBQ meal will be available for $5.00 (BBQ, chips, beans, bar) and a
Bake Sale will be going on. Bake Sale donations can be brought to Rachelle on
Friday at school or just brought to the tournament. Proceeds will be donated to
the Cure Kids Cancer program with Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls. For more

The Varsity
girls' basketball game with Warner that was postponed last Saturday night at
the Hanson Classic has been rescheduled for this Saturday at Sanborn Central.

SUNDAY:
There will be a basketball skills clinic held at the
Sanborn Central Gym on Sunday from 12:30 - 1:45 p.m. for SCW Blackhawks boys
and girls in Grades 4-8. This free clinic will be taught by Troy and Amy Olson
and will focus on basketball fundamentals. Parents are encouraged to
attend and learn teaching techniques as well. For more information

The St. Charles Parish annual Knights of Columbus Free
Throw contest will be held on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Sanborn Central
Gym. This is open to all boys and girls ages 10-14. Age group is
determined by how old the student is on January 1, 2013. Any athlete may
participate as long as they have not shot at another parish
competition. Winners will advance on to district competition in early

The Letcher Jr. CYU will be hosting a free family night
at the Mitchell Rec Center on Sunday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Bring towels
and swimsuits for swimming, shoes for basketball, etc. Some snacks, bars and
pop will be provided, but food and beverage donations are always welcome. The
event is for the entire family, not just the 5-8 grades. Everyone welcome. For

There is no school on Monday. It is an Extra Help Day
from 8:00 – 11:00 a.m. Only students with missing assignments and/or needing

The Lady Blackhawks have basketball games at Hanson
School in Alexandria on Monday evening. The C game will start at 5:15 p.m.
followed by the JV girls at 6:15 p.m., then Varsity girls.
A 4-H Project Day will be held on Monday from 1:00 – 3:00
p.m. at the 4-H Building in Forestburg. Participants (ages 5-18) will be making
a scrapbook calendar. Cost is $5.00. Pre-registration is required. For more

The Blackhawks host Hanson for boys’ basketball games on
Tuesday. The JV boys will start at 6:30 p.m., followed by the Varsity boys. The
C game has been cancelled.
Booster Club concession stand workers for Tuesday are
Renold and Michelle Brandenburg, Bob and Brenda Schmit, and Thad and Shawna
Baysinger.
The Junior Class will be holding a Silent Auction on
Tuesday during the ballgames. It will run through the end of the 3rd quarter of
the Varsity game. Items may be collected and paid for any time after that.

Beavers!

Seniors will be taking ACT NCRC (National Career
Readiness Certificate) assessments at 8:15 a.m. on Wednesday.
The One Act Play cast and crew will be competing in Huron
on Wednesday. They will be leaving the school at 11:30 a.m.

THURSDAY:

REMINDERS:
The latest Blackhawk shirt orders are in and being
sorted. Shirts that are paid for will be sent home with students. Those that
are not paid for yet will be kept in Tracy Moody’s classroom and will be
available as soon as they are paid for. The Spirit Club thanks you for your
support!
Sanborn Central FFA t-shirt orders are due on Thursday, January
24 (the date has been extended from January 15 as stated on the order form).
These shirts aren’t just for FFA members. Prices start at $18.00.

They would like to borrow some scrubs for the play. They need 2 sets of either
