Our SCW FFA Chapter Banquet will be this evening in the gym at Sanborn Central starting at 6:30pm. We are very excited to celebrate with all of you everything that our chapter has done over the last year! At our event we will highlight various award winners, recap the year.

Our event will be potluck style. We have assigned dishes via grade - please see below to figure out what type of food to bring for the group!

High school students could potentially receive credit for courses they did not pass this year.
Middle school students could use this opportunity to jumpstart their academic skills for the 2022-2023 school year.
Summer school will be held June 1-30 (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday) from 8:00-12:00. Attendance is required everyday.

A Note from Ms. Amundson

Virtual and In-Person College and Career Exploration Opportunities

Huron Job Service will be providing activities for youth between the ages of 14-24 this summer. If they come to watch the virtual presentations at the Huron Job Service office, or come to the business and vocational school tours, they can earn $25 for attending each event. During the business tours they can also earn $15.00/hour for a job shadow experience. They don’t have to be enrolled in any programs; they just have to show up. Events include college tours of Mitchell Technical College, Lake Area Technical College, and Southeast Technical College. They will provide transportation for students, but they would need to drive to Huron and meet at Huron Job Service first.  Business tours include Prostrollo Moters & Banner Engineering, NorthWestern Energy, Horizontal Machining and Manufacturing Inc., Huron Area Center for Independence, Dakotaland Federal Credit Union, and Huron Regional Medical Center.

Sanborn County 4-H is planning a Day Camp & Project Day on Tuesday, May 24th from 9 am – 3:30 pm at the 4-H Building.  We will have various learning and safety sessions with hands-on activities, make some 4-H projects and play games. Lunch/snacks are included, as well as project supplies.  This is open to ages 5-18, both 4-H and non-4-H kids.  Cost is a free-will donation that will be used towards the purchase of playground equipment for the 4-H grounds.

SDSU Health Professions Career Camp
South Dakota State University is hosting a Health Professions Career Camp from July 12-15 on the campus of South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD. The aim of the Health Professions Career Camp is to inform, educate, and inspire high school students about the many careers available in health-related professions. Students will have the chance to participate in field trips to health care facilities and to interact with a variety of health care professionals. The camp will begin on the afternoon of July 12, and conclude with a faculty/adviser panel, meal, and a chance to meet with Admissions Office representatives on the afternoon of July 15. Cost for participants is $100 each, which includes food, lodging, and all other expenses associated with the program.

ACT
High school students looking to take the ACT this summer - June 11 and July 16 are the test dates. Students need to register for the ACT by this Friday, May 6th to avoid late fees for the June 11th test. Make sure to check your calendars before registering to ensure that you don't have any conflicts, as the tests are on Saturday's. Students who qualify for free or reduced lunches can take the ACT for FREE. Please see Ms. Amundson to get the voucher.  Ms. Amundson is also available to help students sign up for the ACT if need be.

Sanborn County 4-H is planning a Day Camp & Project Day on Tuesday, May 24th from 9 am – 3:30 pm at the 4-H Building.  We will have various learning and safety sessions with hands-on activities, make some 4-H projects and play games. Lunch/snacks are included, as well as project supplies.  This is open to ages 5-18, both 4-H and non-4-H kids.  Cost is a free-will donation that will be used towards the purchase of playground equipment for the 4-H grounds.

Today's announcements
The track meet today at Parkston has been moved up to a noon start for field events and 1:30 for running events because of the potential rain and thunderstorms.

The bus will leave Woonsocket at 9:45 and Sanborn Central at 10:00

If you have any items in the locker rooms please remove them by the end of the week!

Semester test will take place on May 16th (orange) and May 17th (blue) days.  As a policy, students who have failing grades or missing assignments are required to be in attendance for class even if there is no test being given.

Sanborn Central will be offering summer school for interested high school and middle school students.
High school students could potentially receive credit for courses they did not pass this year.
Middle school students could use this opportunity to jumpstart their academic skills for the 2022-2023 school year.
Summer school will be held June 1-30 (Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday) from 8:00-12:00. Attendance is required everyday.

A Note from Ms. Amundson

ACT
High school students looking to take the ACT this summer - June 11 and July 16 are the test dates. Students need to register for the ACT by this Friday, May 6th to avoid late fees for the June 11th test. Make sure to check your calendars before registering to ensure that you don't have any conflicts, as the tests are on Saturday's. Students who qualify for free or reduced lunches can take the ACT for FREE. Please see Ms. Amundson to get the voucher.  Ms. Amundson is also available to help students sign up for the ACT if need be.

Dual Credit Sign Up
Ms. Amundson has started meeting with students to sign up for dual credit courses for this summer and fall. Current sophomores and juniors, please find a time to meet with Ms. Amundson to sign up for dual credit courses if you would like to do so. Registration must be completed before summer break begins.

SDSU Health Professions Career Camp
South Dakota State University is hosting a Health Professions Career Camp from July 12-15 on the campus of South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD. The aim of the Health Professions Career Camp is to inform, educate, and inspire high school students about the many careers available in health-related professions. Students will have the chance to participate in field trips to health care facilities and to interact with a variety of health care professionals. The camp will begin on the afternoon of July 12, and conclude with a faculty/adviser panel, meal, and a chance to meet with Admissions Office representatives on the afternoon of July 15. Cost for participants is $100 each, which includes food, lodging, and all other expenses associated with the program.
