Congratulations to the High School Student of the Month nominees for December: Science – Kelbi Dean; Social Science – Jarid Bechen; PE – Nick Miller; AgEd – Hannah Spelbring; English – Ashley Schmit; Math – Taylor Peck; Computers – Jarid Bechen; Band – Tristen Wormstadt; and Vocal Music – Tamra Mann. Star Student of the Month for December was Jarid Bechen.
 
The JH boys won their basketball game last night against Andes Central, 38-9. Quarter scores were 9-2, 22-4, 30-6 and 38-9 with the Blackhawks leading the whole way. Trey Weber and Wyatt Feistner led the team in scoring with 8 points each, and Trevor Olson had 6. Trent Kingsbury, Logun Feistner and Devon Weber had 4 points each, and Garrett Dean and Jared Goldammer each chipped in a basket. Trevor Olson led the team with 9 steals and 7 assists while Trent Kingsbury pitched in 5 steals and 4 assists. Everyone on the team brought down a rebound in the win; Wyatt Feistner led the team with 5 rebounds.
 
The Varsity boys won last night, 62-48. Scoring: Tyler Krueger – 15, Todd Stekl – 7, Nick Miller – 18, Davion Brooks – 13, Drew Hinker – 4, Tucker Kingsbury – 1, Brady Tiede – 4. Assists: Davion – 5, Todd – 4, Nick – 4. Steals: Tyler – 4. The Blackhawks were 25 of 60 for field goals (42%) and 6 of 12 for free throws (50%).
 
The winner of the Woonsocket Junior Class Basketball Board from last night was Paula Linke.
 
On Saturday, the 7th/8th grade SCW Blackhawk boys defeated Hitchcock-Tulare with a score of 38-26. Quarter scores were 15-6, 19-12, 34-14, and 38-26 with the Blackhawks leading the whole way. Trevor Olson led the scoring with 9 points, Trey Weber had 7, Trent Kingsbury with 6, and Logun Feistner, Wyatt Feistner, Garrett Dean, and Devon Weber each had 4 points. Trevor Olson and Trey Weber led the team in steals with 4, Trent Kingsbury pitched in 3, Logun Feistner 2, and Nathan Linke and Jared Goldammer each had 1. Trevor Olson and Trent Kingsbury each had 3 assists while Shaun Snedeker and Logun Feistner had 2 each also. Garrett Dean led all rebounders with 6, Logun Feistner and Shaun Snedeker had 4, Trent Kingsbury and Jared Golhammer had 2, and Wyatt Feistner, Trey Weber, Koby Larson, and Nathan Linke each had 1.
 
There will be a Young Hearts Cardiac Screening at Sanborn Central on Wednesday, March 20. Cost is $89.00. More information will be made available as the date gets closer. You can also visit www.screening-america.com for more information.
 
The brackets for the upcoming Girls and Boys 281 Conference Tournament are now available by clicking on the following link. The first day of each tournament will be played in Wolsey, and the second and third days will be at the Huron Arena. The girls play on Friday, January 11; Monday, January 14; and Thursday, January 17. The boys play on Saturday, January 12; Tuesday, January 15; and Thursday, January 17.
 
 
The Lady Blackhawks will be playing in the Hanson Girls Classic at the Corn Palace on Saturday, January 12. Matchups will be announced on Monday, January 7. The Hanson Boys Classic is on Saturday, January 19 (the Blackhawks aren’t playing in that). The Corn Palace is offering a limited number of advanced reserved tickets for both the girls and boys classics. These tickets are court side front row tickets and will be available on a first come first serve basis. The tickets are good for all 8 games to be played on each day. Anyone interested in purchase these tickets should contact the Corn Palace Ticket Office at 605-995-8430.

There will be a Community Bridal Shower tonight at 7:00 p.m. in the Letcher Community Center for Kelsey Price. Kelsey will be marrying Shawn Ruml in January in Mexico.

SATURDAY:
 
The JV girls will be playing in the CBH JV Girls Basketball Jamboree at Mt. Vernon on Saturday. The jamboree starts at 9:00 a.m. The SCW Lady Blackhawks will play their first game at 9:35 a.m. against Wagner in the old Mt. Vernon Gym. Here’s the complete schedule:
 
 
There are double-header basketball games against Mt. Vernon/Plankinton at Plankinton on Saturday.
 
12:00 – JH Girls with 5th quarter running clock
1:00 – JH Boys with 5th quarter running clock
2:30 – JV Boys
4:00 – Varsity Girls
5:30 – Varsity Boys
 
No transportation will be provided for JH players on Saturday. If a ride is needed, please contact a coach. The JV and Varsity girls/boys bus will leave Sanborn Central at 12:45 p.m. and pick up the Woonsocket players at 1:00 p.m. before heading to Plankinton.
 
The Salem/Storla/Trinity Lutheran Youth Group will be sponsoring a “5th Quarter” on Saturday following the Titans/Blackhawks basketball games until 11:00 p.m. This is a chance for all area high school youth to gather after the game for the 3 F’s – Fellowship, Fun and Food. Youth advisors Dave and Dawnette Anderson will open their home (108 Northview Road in Mt. Vernon) following the game with the cost being covered by the youth group. There will be a pool and hot tub (bring your own suit and towel), video games, a pool table and food. Everyone is welcome. For more information, contact Dave or Dawnette Anderson at 605-236-5480.

January is the Character Month of Responsibility. Everyone is encouraged to wear green on Monday in support.

The JH girls and boys have basketball games at Kimball on Monday. The JH girls will play at 6:00 p.m. and the JH boys at approximately 7:00 p.m.

The Blackhawks have double-header basketball games on Tuesday against Kimball/White Lake at Woonsocket. The boys will be playing first. Games start at 4:00 p.m. in the following order: Boys JV, Girls JV, Boys Varsity, Girls Varsity.
 
Friends of the Library will be having a Used Book Sale in the Woonsocket School Commons on Tuesday during the basketball games.

The Sanborn Central School Board will be having their January meeting on Thursday at 4:00 p.m.
 
The boys have basketball games on Thursday against James Valley Christian at Sanborn Central. The JH boys will play at 5:15 p.m., the JV boys at 6:30 p.m., and the Varsity boys when they’re finished.
 
Booster Club concession stand workers for Thursday are Curtis and Sara Adams, Justin and Lori Dean, and Rod and Jane Marten.
 
The pep band is scheduled to play on Thursday night.

REMINDERS:
 
The Glass Slipper event will once again be held at the First United Methodist Church in Mitchell the second weekend in February, 2013. They are taking donated prom dresses, jewelry and shoes for girls who are in need of prom dresses for this school year. If you would like to donate prom dresses, jewelry or shoes, they can be dropped off with Mary in the Sanborn Central School office and she will make sure they get to the Glass Slipper event. Donations may also be dropped off at the church office at 310 N. Rowley in Mitchell, Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
