SANBORN CENTRAL E-NEWS
 
The Lady Blackhawks played basketball at Wessington Springs last night.
 
The Varsity girls won, 79-55. Leading scorers were Rachelle Moore with 25 points, Shelby Selland with 16, and Marissa Weber with 9.
 
The JV girls won, 54-5. Leaders: Morgan Selland - 9 points, 5 rebounds; Ashley Schmit - 8 points, 7 rebounds; Tanna Kingsbury - 7 points, 4 rebounds; Tayla Weber - 6 points, 4 steals; Savannah Swenson - 5 points; Bailey Moody - 4 points, 4 steals; Amberiah Smith - 4 points; Kelbi Dean - 4 points, 5 rebounds, 5 steals, 2 assists; Myah Selland - 3 points, 4 assists; Kayla Olson – 2 points; and Maddie Vermeulen – 2 points.
 
The JH girls won, 26-17.
 
Both of Monday’s varsity games will be broadcast on Q107.3 Radio.
 
The Middle School update letters for next week will be uploaded sometime today, and can be found by following the links on the Middle School page at www.sanborncentral.com.
 
Here’s a copy of the order form for students who want to purchase something to present to their parents on Parent’s Night during the basketball games on February 2. They need to be turned in by Tuesday, January 29.
 
 
Seniors: Check out www.highfivescholarships.com as a good resource for scholarship information. High Five also gives students free SAT and ACT online practice tests that are graded by a real person and include a consultation with a test expert. This free service should be used by all juniors and seniors to improve their test scores.

FRIDAY:
 
Today is a School Pride Day. Everyone should dress accordingly.
 
Basketball practice: Girls at Woonsocket
 
Grade 7 will be having Guidance on this afternoon.
 
The Blackhawks have boys’ basketball games against Wessington Springs at Woonsocket tonight. The JH game starts at 5:15 p.m., the JV game at 6:30 p.m., and the Varsity game around 8:00 p.m.
 
The pep band is scheduled to play tonight. They should be ready to go by 7:00 p.m.
 
The Woonsocket National Honor Society and the journalism students will have a loaded potato meal during the basketball games. The potatoes have been donated by the Peterson family at Twin Lakes Resort, ham has been donated by the Davis family, and toppings have been donated by Darin's Market. The price of the loaded potato meal (consisting of a loaded potato, which the customer will load, and glass of cola) is $3.50. All money earned will be given back to the Woonsocket School.
 
From the Woonsocket School Announcements: It’s Dakotaland Night with the Blackhawks starting at 5:15 p.m. Dakotaland will be sponsoring a WEPC’s Basketball Toss. Everyone can sign up through the evening for a chance to throw a basketball into a bucket held by Mr. Rodriguez. Funds raised will be used to purchase new gym equipment. Dakotaland will also have information and a table set up in the commons for everyone to sign up for a chance to win some prizes, including beef bucks, movie tickets and much more.

SATURDAY:
 
The JH girls will be participating in a CBH JH Basketball Tournament at Plankinton School on Saturday. SCW’s first game will be at 9:00 a.m. on the south court against Mt. Vernon/Plankinton.
 
 
The JV boys will be playing in a JV Basketball Jamboree at Mt. Vernon on Saturday. Games start at 9:00 a.m. SCW’s first game will be at 9:35 a.m. against Corsica/Stickney in Mt. Vernon’s old gym (on Main Street).
 
 
The Local Purr-N-Ruff Kids Club will be hosting a bake sale on Saturday at the Davison Feed Supply store in Mitchell.  Stop in to buy some goodies (donations are welcome) and meet the kids involved.
 
The annual Dave Olson Texas Hold ‘Em Tournament will be held on Saturday in the Artesian Community Center. Registration will begin at 6:00 p.m. with dealing to commence between 6:30 and 7:00 p.m. Soup will be available and a 31 game will be played. Beneficiaries will be the Artesian Fire Department and The Ronald McDonald House.

MONDAY:
 
The girls and boys have basketball games against Ethan at Sanborn Central on Monday.
 
4:00 p.m. – Girls JV
5:00 p.m. – Boys JV
6:30 p.m. – Girls Varsity
8:00 p.m. – Boys Varsity
 
Booster Club concession stand workers for Monday night are Dennis and Donna Morgan, Clayton and Lanette Dean, and Brett and Kelly Selland.
 
The Booster Club will be selling Caramel Apple Slices with toppings during the games.
 
The Pep Band will be performing on Monday. Band members should be ready to play by 5:30 p.m.
 
Both of Monday’s varsity games will be broadcast on Q107.3 Radio.

Eligibility and Homework Club will be calculated on Thursday.
 
There are double-header basketball games against Corsica/Stickney at Corsica on Thursday. Since they have two gyms, both the JV girls and JV boys will play at 5:00 p.m. The Varsity girls will then play in the main gym, followed by the Varsity boys.
 
The charter bus will pick up players at Sanborn Central at 3:20 p.m. and Woonsocket at 3:35 p.m.

REMINDERS:
 
Logan Moody’s February Caring Project is to send valentines to the Veteran’s Hospital and local nursing homes. Elementary students will be making valentines. If you would care to donate for postage or make some valentines, please contact Mary at mary.ackman@k12.sd.us.
 
Seniors: Applications for the 2013 Ashley and Amanda Loban Memorial Scholarship are now open. Two scholarships will be awarded in remembrance of Ashley and Amanda Loban, whose young lives were cut short by a fatal automobile accident in May 2006 in Brookings County. Scholarships will be awarded to one Brookings High School student and to one student enrolled in another South Dakota High School. WANTED: Sanborn Central is in need of someone to organize and supervise the spring soccer league for our students. The league is Woonsocket, Wessington Springs, and Sanborn Central. It involves lining up coaches for each age group and coaching/supervising all the practices and games. Please contact Mrs. Whitney ASAP at 605-495-4183 or linda.whitney@k12.sd.us if you might be interested.  The pay is $800 for the season.
