SANBORN CENTRAL E-NEWS
 
The Varsity girls' basketball game with Warner that was postponed on Saturday night at the Hanson Classic has been rescheduled for this Saturday, January 19, at Sanborn Central. A JV game will begin at 3:30 p.m. followed by the Varsity game.
 
Saturday’s Warner game will be on Q107.3 FM Radio and www.q107radio.com.
 
From Tracy Moody: We are desperately looking for about 8 volunteers to help with the concession stand during the JV and Varsity games with Warner on Saturday starting at 3:30 p.m. If we have enough volunteers, it would make it easier for everyone to see part of the game. If willing to help during one or both of the games, please contact Tracy Moody at tracy.moody@k12.sd.us or 605-495-4183. The Lady Blackhawks beat James Valley Christian last night in the 2nd round of the 281 tournament, 76-50. Leaders: Shelby Selland – 29 points, 10 rebounds, 4 steals; Rachel Selland – 18 points, 5 rebounds, 9 assists; Rachelle Moore – 10 points, 6 assists, 4 steals. The Lady Blackhawks will play for the 281 conference championship on Thursday at the Huron Arena at 6:00 p.m. against Highmore-Harrold.

TODAY - TUESDAY:
 
High School play practice: 7:30 a.m.

The High School Student Council will meet during lunch today.
 
The second round of the 281 Conference Boys’ Basketball Tournament will be held at the Huron Arena tonight. The Blackhawks will be playing James Valley Christian at 8:00 p.m. The tournament concludes on Thursday. The player bus will be leaving from Sanborn Central at 5:15 p.m. and picking up players at Woonsocket at 5:30 p.m.
 
If the boys lose tonight, they’ll play for 3rd place on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. If they win tonight, they’ll play for the championship on Thursday at 7:30 p.m.
 
The tournament games are being aired on KOKK Radio and broadcast over the internet at www.kokk.com.

The first eligibility of the second semester will be calculated on Thursday.
 
The 281 Conference Tournament for both girls and boys concludes on Thursday at the Huron Arena.

FRIDAY:

Parents will be notified on Friday afternoon if their student needs to attend Extra Help Day on Monday.
 
There will be a blood drive at the school on Friday.
 
The JH girls and boys have basketball games on Friday at Wolsey. The JH girls will play at 6:00 p.m. and the JH boys when they’re finished.

7:00 p.m. – Viborg/Hurley vs. James Valley Christian

SUNDAY:
 
There will be a basketball skills clinic held at the Sanborn Central Gym on Sunday from 12:30 - 1:45 p.m. for SCW Blackhawks boys and girls in Grades 4-8. This free clinic will be taught by Troy and Amy Olson and will focus on basketball fundamentals.  Parents are encouraged to attend and learn teaching techniques as well.  For more information contact Troy/Amy Olson at 999-1058 or olsona@santel.net.
 
The St. Charles Parish annual Knights of Columbus Free Throw contest will be held on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Sanborn Central Gym. This is open to all boys and girls ages 10-14. Age group is determined by how old the student is on January 1, 2013. Any athlete may participate as long as they have not shot at another parish competition. Winners will advance on to district competition in early February. For more information contact Troy Olson at 999-1058 or olsona@santel.net.

MONDAY:
 
There is no school on Monday. It is an Extra Help Day. Only students with missing assignments and/or needing extra help will need to attend.
 
Basketball practice: Boys at Sanborn Central at 9:30 a.m.
 
High School play practice: 11:00 a.m.
 
The Lady Blackhawks have basketball games at Hanson School in Alexandria on Monday evening. The C game will start at 5:15 p.m. followed by the JV girls at 6:15 p.m., then Varsity girls.
 
A 4-H Project Day will be held on Monday from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. at the 4-H Building in Forestburg. Participants (ages 5-18) will be making a scrapbook calendar. Cost is $5.00. From Rachelle Moore: For my senior project, I am hosting a 7th/8th Grade Girls Basketball Tournament on Saturday, January 19 starting at 10:00 a.m. All funds raised will be donated to Cure Kids Cancer out of the Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls.  I am in need of volunteers to take admission, be scorekeepers, refs, etc.  There will be 4 games and a BBQ meal. I am also looking for anybody who is interested in donating baked items for the bake sale.  Please email me if you are able to volunteer at rachellemoore-b-r@hotmail.com.  I also want to thank everybody for the help and the support thus far!
