Lunch Program News:

Supporting Local Makes a Difference!
As we continue our final week of Farm to School Month, we're talking about something that's especially important in our South Dakota communities — supporting local agriculture!
We're fortunate to live in an area surrounded by hardworking farmers, ranchers, and businesses that help provide the food we enjoy every day.
Supporting local doesn't always mean buying something. It can be as simple as learning where your food comes from, visiting a local farm, or thanking someone who works in agriculture.
Every little bit helps our students understand the connection between our communities and the food on their plates.
Today's Blackhawk Challenge
Ask your Blackhawk to think of one way your family supports local agriculture.
Maybe you purchase beef from a local rancher, shop at a farmers market, grow vegetables in your garden, or know someone who raises livestock.
Can your family think of one new way to support local agriculture?
We'd love to hear your ideas!

Notes from Mrs. Gassman
*Save the dates
Friday, November 6th at 8:15 AM - ASVAB - Mrs. Gassman's room
*ALL juniors plus any seniors wanting to retake it

Monday, November 9th - FAFSA Night at 7:00 PM in Mrs. Gassman's room
Join Mrs. L Gassman for FAFSA Night on Monday, November 9th at 7PM in Mrs. Gassman's room. Learn about what FAFSA is and how FAFSA can help provide grants, work-study, federal student loans and state & college based aid.

Reminder that all juniors and seniors have 2 excused absences for college/career exploration each year! I really encourage them to go on college tours and to go job shadowing. However, they need to be responsible and get their assignments ahead of time and have their parents/guardians call in their absence.
Hi Parents/Guardians,
I spoke with our juniors this morning about an exciting opportunity available through Central Electric Cooperative! High school juniors have the opportunity to apply for the National Rural Electric Youth Tour to Washington, D.C., June 17–23, 2027.
This is a great leadership and educational experience where students can learn about our nation’s government, electric cooperatives, and rural electrification while exploring some of Washington, D.C.’s most famous landmarks. Highlights include the Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, U.S. Capitol, Arlington National Cemetery, and a riverboat cruise on the Potomac River.
Eligibility requirements:
Central Electric will select four students from its service area, with no more than one student selected per county.
Application deadline: December 10, 2026. Selected students will be notified by December 31, 2026.
Students and families can find more information and apply at www.centralec.coop/youth-tour. You can also view the Youth Tour promotional video here or call Central Electric at 1-800-477-2892 with questions.
I encourage eligible juniors to apply for this opportunity! It would be a wonderful chance to develop leadership skills, meet other students, and experience our nation's capital.
On January 11th and 12th we will be having internet safety presentations for grades PreK-12. These will be by each grade level, so they are age appropriate. There will also be a parent session on the evening of January 11th. More information to come later regarding this.
