Farm to School Friday: The Journey of Our Food!
We've had another great week celebrating Farm to School Month at Sanborn Central!
This week, we've followed our food from the farm to the lunch tray, learned about the people who help get it there, and explored what fruits and vegetables are in season here in South Dakota.
One thing we hope our Blackhawks have learned is that there's a lot more to our meals than what we see on our plates!
This Weekend's Family Challenge
The next time you're at the grocery store, have your Blackhawk pick out three different foods and see if they can figure out where they came from.
Were they grown or raised in South Dakota? Somewhere else in the United States? Or another country?
Take a look at the labels and see what you can discover together!

Join Mrs. L Gassman for FAFSA Night on Monday, November 9th at 7PM in Mrs. Gassman's room. Learn about what FAFSA is and how FAFSA can help provide grants, work-study, federal student loans and state & college based aid.
Reminder that all juniors and seniors have 2 excused absences for college/career exploration each year! I really encourage them to go on college tours and to go job shadowing. However, they need to be responsible and get their assignments ahead of time and have their parents/guardians call in their absence.
On January 11th and 12th we will be having internet safety presentations for grades PreK-12. These will be by each grade level, so they are age appropriate. There will also be a parent session on the evening of January 11th. More information to come later regarding this.

The Region V HS Honor Band & Choir Festival will take place on Nov. 24th in Gregory. The concert will be at 6pm in the gym. Open to the public for $4 and will be streaming as well for those who can't make it in person.
Oct. 29-Nov. 1 All-State Rapid City
The following students will be attending All-State Chorus in Rapid City: Chloe S, McKenzie U, Rylan P, and Westen W. They will leave SC at 10:00 am on Thursday, Oct. 29 and will be gone all day on Oct. 30 as well. Please tune it to SDPB Saturday evening and watch our students perform live!
