Tutoring

Today the FFA  is treating us to a donut sale.  Some of the kids are sporting some great outfits that pertain to a career in Agriculture.  Don't forget your blue and gold tomorrow in support of Ag week.  The excitement is heightening as we will be enlightened by some Ag Olympics tomorrow!

Good Luck to the Lady Blackhawks as they face Hanson at 8:00 tonight in the Huron Arena in region play. The theme for tonight is “Black Out”! We have been informed that KORN and KOOL 98.3 are covering the game. The games will be broadcast using Pixellot camera on the NFHS site http://www.nfhsnetwork.com/schools/huron-high-school-huron-sd a sight that you need to pay.

A pep rally will be held in Woonsocket at 2:40 today to send the Blackhawks on the road to Huron!!! Leaving at 2:20 are Coach R Moody, Coach McCain, Teya M, Abby V, Katie S, Dayton E, Tory R, Hannah D, and Cassidy S

Lady Blackhawk stats from the 45-38 win over Colman/Egan Tuesday…. Leaders: Megan Poyer 16 points, 9 rebounds, and 3 assists; Tesa Jensen 16 points; Kaylee White 8 points and 8 rebounds; Trinity Boschee 3 points, 6 rebounds and 3 steals; and Abby Vermeulen 2 points and 3 assists.

BB will practice at SC today.


Drumline will practice at SC today.

Due to the short week, we will not do eligibility this week. MS Updates will be due at noon on Thursday.

Don't forget that soccer forms were due yesterday.

Due to yesterday's snow day the breakfast and lunch menu have been changed for today (Wed. meal.)

SENIORS!!!!!!  Mrs. Dawson needs senior pictures for the senior spotlight ASAP.  She is missing pictures from Royce Hunter, Cole Moody, Kendra Morgan, Levi Nicholson, Eric Ruml, Sawyer Senska, Jayden Tucker, Abigail Vermeulen, Alex Wormstead, and Kyle Zoss.


ACADEMICS


Applications for teacher of the year are due by February 28th. Is there a teacher who you believe deserves to be named Teacher of the year? Forms are available in the office. 

Just a reminder that Legion/Auxiliary Essays (grades 3-12) and Poems (grades 3-6) are due March 1st. Poppy Posters are due March 30th.

Spring will come and so will pre-school screening!!!  If you are unsure if we have your little ones on our list, please call the school 495-4183 or an e-mail to mary.ackman@k12.sd.us.  We are looking for any one under the age of 4, so spread the word to family and friends please!!!!

The date has been set for Pre-K Screening - May 3rd.  Letters with time slots and more information will be sent out sometime after mid-April.

Wednesday, February 7th some of our HS students will be attending the CBH Academic Fest in Mitchell. You will be leaving here at approximately 8:00am. Please bring money for your own lunch!

ATHLETICS
Tomorrow Wessington Springs comes to SC for a full night of guys’ basketball. The JH team tips off at 5:15 followed by JV and Varsity. The Pep Band will also perform. Prior to our games the 6th traveling boys will play springs with a 4:00 tip off.

 February 23rd the boys and girls Junior High will compete in the "Big Slam Tourney" in Iroquois.  The boys will begin at 9:00 AM in the South gym followed by the girls at 12:20 PM  1:00 PM in the South gym (Please note this change).  Both teams will play JVC.

MUSIC
In order for Sanborn Central and Woonsocket 8-12 band students to rehearse together in preparation for Region 5 Large Group Contest, I have planned some rehearsals outside of our normal class period. For your planning purposes, below are the dates to be aware of:
Monday, March 4th – dismissed to Sanborn Central music room at 9:45, returning to class around 10:45am
Tuesday, March 19th -  time TBD, rehearsal @ Woonsocket
Wednesday, March 20th – Large Group Contest, students will be gone majority of the school day

Mrs. Johnson has Girls State applications for those interested. Deadline is February 28th.

Updated information from Miss Ronning...For those who plan on attending the Howard CDE on March 13th and Miller CDE on March 20th - Miss. Ronning needs a commitment from you by Tuesday, February 26th at 3:00 pm. IF you are unable to attend or are ineligible that week, you will need to repay the chapter registration fees for the contest. Sign up in Miss. Ronning's classroom or by e-mailing her/messaging on Remind.

COMMUNITY
Good Luck to our District KC Hoop contestants: McKenzie Uecker, Eli White, Addyson Baruth, Samuel Baruth, Jaycee Baruth, Evan Easton, and Trista White. The District competition will be held Sunday, Feb. 24th starting at 1:00 pm at the Huron Middle School Gym. The gym will open at noon for warm ups. Enter through the Nordby Center west doors. If you can't make it please call John Bechen at 999-1370, by Friday then he can contact the alternate.
