Sanborn Central welcomes more new students this week:
Sakari Burd to Grade 1, Alexis Nelson-Myers to Grade 3, Hannah Nelson-Myers to
Grade 6, and Tage Burd to Grade 9.
The Lady Blackhawks will be playing Mitchell Christian
for the Region 5 Championship at the Huron Arena on Friday night at 7:00 p.m.
The Blackhawk boys finished their basketball season last
night with a loss in the District 9B Boys Tournament to Wolsey-Wessington,
26-64. Scoring: Davion Brooks – 10, Nick Miller – 8, Drew Hinker – 5, Cole
Wormstadt – 2, Joe Davis – 1.
From Mr. Gross: The Sanborn Central FFA needs parents who would be
interested in helping chaperone FFA events. On Tuesday, March 12 we will
be going to DeSmet; on Friday, March 22 we will be going to Little I in
Brookings; and on Tuesday, April 2 we will be going to Miller. If able to
help, please send an email to shane.gross@k12.sd.us or call the school and leave a
message. Also, I have spoken to a few parents who have expressed interest in
helping chaperone State Convention this year. If you haven't talked to me
but are interested in helping please call or email. Thanks for your help!
The local 4-H groups are selling boxed fruit (same type
as FFA) as a fundraiser. Tomorrow (Thursday) is the deadline for
sales. If you would like to place an order and haven't been visited by
anyone, please contact any 4-H member or contact Tracy Moody or Stacy Zoss and
they will make sure your order is placed.

Several Sanborn Central students will be competing in the
DWU Academic Fest in Mitchell today.

THURSDAY:
Basketball practice: Girls at Sanborn Central
Eligibility and Homework Club will be calculated on
Thursday.
The District 9B Boys’ Basketball Tournament championship
game will be held on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at the Huron Arena between James Valley Christian and Wolsey-Wessington.

FRIDAY:
Friday is a School Pride Day. Everyone should dress
accordingly.
Tom Fridley and Lyle Collins would like to know if there
is enough interest to host a spring gun safety course. This would be for any
youth turning 12 before the end of the year. If interested, please contact Tom
Fridley at sheriff@santel.net or Lyle
Collins at 605-495-4121 no later than Friday.
Several students will be attending the FFA CDE in
Redfield on Friday. The participant bus will leave from Sanborn Central at 7:15
a.m. and Woonsocket at 7:30 a.m.
There will be a Pep Rally in Woonsocket on Friday for the
girls’ basketball team at 2:30 p.m. Coaches, cheerleaders and varsity girls’
basketball players will be bussed over at 2:15 p.m. Any other student wishing
to attend must have parent permission prior to noon on Friday. The Pep Rally
will include cheers and chants by the cheerleaders, a skit “Blackhawk Fever” by
Lieber and crew, the introduction of players and coaches, a game directed by
Tara Weber, the Blackhawk School Song, and a performance by Mr. Kroeger.
The Lady Blackhawks will be playing for the Region 5
Championship against Mitchell Christian at the Huron Arena on Friday night at
7:00 p.m.
The SCW Pep Band will be playing during the girls’ game
on Friday night.
Friday night’s game will be on KOOL 98.3 FM radio.

The State KC Free Throw Competition will be held in
Chamberlain on Sunday afternoon.

TUESDAY:
FFA members will be attending a CDE at Howard on Tuesday.
Soccer signup sheets were sent home with students in
grades PK-5 last week. Registration forms need to be returned to the office no
later than Tuesday. MS and HS students wishing to play should stop in the
office for a form. There have also been inquiries as to whether we would have
interest in teams U14-U19 to play in the area. If any students are interested,
please sign up and they’ll see if they can perhaps field a team. In the

REMINDERS:
Soccer coaches are needed! If interested, please see Mary
in the school office.
The High Plains Soccer League (Sanborn Central,
Woonsocket, Wessington Springs) is looking for soccer referees. There will be a
certification clinic on Friday, March 8 from 6:30 – 10:00 p.m. and on Saturday,
March 9 from 8:30 a.m. – 12:00 noon at the Huron High School. After attending
both sessions, there will be a quick test and participants will become
certified as Grade 8 soccer referees. These are paid positions. If interested,
contact the school office for more information.
Wagner School has a couple of basketball events coming
up. The 5th Annual Wagner Easter Tournament will be held on Saturday, March 30,
with divisions for both girls and boys in grades 4-9. The entry fee is $75 with
3 games guaranteed. Registration deadline is Friday, March 22.

The 12th Annual Wagner 3-on-3 Early Bird Hoopfest will be
held on Saturdya, April 20, with divisions for both girls and boys in grades
3-12. The entry fee is $40. Registration deadline is Thursday, April 18.

With the basketball tournaments upon us, the Blackhawk
Cheerleaders would like to remind everyone of the following Tournament Rules
that are set by the South Dakota High School Activities Association (SDHSAA).
These rules apply to all district, region and state events.
1. Banners and signs of all kinds are prohibited
2. All types of noisemakers are prohibited
3. Paper confetti and silly string are prohibited
4. Balloons are prohibited
5. Megaphones are prohibited except by a Cheerleader
6. Human tunnels created by students and/or adults are
prohibited
7. Laser pointers are prohibited and will be confiscated
8. Students are asked not to stand on the seats
9. All fans must wear shirts – Body paint is not allowed
for either students or adults
10. The following ARE permitted: Face paint, pennants,
number one fingers, foam noodles, homer hankies, rooter poms, etc.
Please help support our cheerleaders and players by using
good sportsmanship in cheering our teams to a victory. Good luck Blackhawk
cheerleaders, players and coaches!
