Correction to printed basketball practice schedule: Next

The Boys Basketball Team will be taking orders for new
Under Armour pullovers (windjackets). They are a top-of-the-line lightweight pullover
with lining. They will be black in color with white trim and will have a left
chest embroidery with SCW Blackhawks. If you would like to place an order,
contact Rod Weber at rod.weber@k12.sd.us
or 605-796-4431 by Monday, February 25. The cost will be around $55.00 each
(depending on shipping costs) and will arrive in about 2-3 weeks. Sizes
Small-3XL available. Payment will be collected when shipment arrives.
Soccer signup sheets are being sent home with students in
grades PK-5 this week. Registration forms need to be returned to the office no
later than Tuesday, March 5. MS and HS students wishing to play should stop in
the office for a form. There have also been inquiries as to whether we would
have interest in teams U14-U19 to play in the area. If any students are
interested, please sign up and they’ll see if they can perhaps field a team. In

Letter, Registration Form, and Age Chart.

Today’s FFA Week Fact: There are 25 FFA Career
Development Events (CDE’s), such as Prepared Public Speaking, Agricultural
Business Management, Parliamentary Procedure, Food Science and Technology,
Marketing Plan and Livestock Evaluation, that assist students in developing
leadership skills and discovering career opportunities.

The winner from tonight’s game will advance to the Region
5 championship against the District 10B winner on Friday, March 1.

CTEs will be held on Friday.
The Middle School Valentine’s Coronation and Dance will
be held at Sanborn Central on Friday (weather permitting). The Coronation will
start at 6:30 p.m. with the dance to follow until 9:30 p.m.
FFA students need to turn their State Convention and
Spring CDE agreements in to Mr. Gross by Friday morning. Students will not be
allowed to go to CDE schools until the agreements are turned in. Extra copies
are available from Mr. Gross. Any students intending to go to the Redfield CDEs
should sign up by Friday morning on the sheet in Mr. Gross’ classroom.
Parents who are unable to attend parent-teacher
conferences last week may contact their student’s teachers via phone or e-mail.
Students in grades 6-12 will be given bonus points in the classes that their
parents confer. The deadline for bonus points will be Friday.
In an attempt to determine how many will be playing in
the community summer ball programs, Intent to Play forms have been sent home
with eligible students. The maximum age for a boy is 12 years old on May 1,
2013. The maximum age for girls is 14 on January 1, 2013. Forms are due back at

SATURDAY:
The first round of the District 9B Boys’ Basketball
Tournament will be held on Saturday. The only game will be Wessington Springs
(#4) vs. Iroquois (#5) at Wessington Springs on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m. The
Blackhawks will be playing on Tuesday at the Huron Arena in the second round
against Wolsey/Wessington at 5:30 p.m. (following JVC vs. the winner of
Saturday’s game at 4:00 p.m.)
There will be an information-sharing session on Saturday
at 10:00 a.m. at the Letcher Community Center to find out how to be a part of
“Bountiful Baskets,” a co-op that will allow those interested to get fresh
produce delivered locally at a good price from small growers. A light breakfast
will be served by the Community Development Foundation. Contact Amanda Chada at

There will be a meeting in the Woonsocket School Commons
on Monday at 6:30 p.m. for parents and their students who are interested in
participating in Youth Football in Wessington Springs starting in August 2013.

Dakota State University (DSU) would like to remind
Seniors that March 1 is the deadline for their general scholarship application.

Students are encouraged to fill out the 5-minute application even if may decide
on a different school later on.
Mitchell High School will be holding their Spring 2013
ACT Prep Courses on March 19, March 25, April 2, and April 9. They will be
covering Reading, Math, Science and English with a practice (scored) exam and
test-taking tips. Cost is $45.00. Contact Mrs. Whitney for more information.
Register early to be sure to have a book when the first course starts.

Wessington Springs is exploring the possibility of
starting a youth football program in conjunction with its coop partner schools
Woonsocket and Sanborn Central. To get started they need to determine how much
interest there would be in such a program. With enough interest this youth
program would take place in Wessington Springs beginning in August 2013. This
opportunity is for students in grades 3-6 for the 2013-14 school year. Note
that this program is not a school sponsored activity, so there will be a small
fee for participating to offset equipment upkeep. If interested, parents and
athletes are asked to attend a youth football meeting on Monday, February 25 at
6:30 p.m. in the commons area of the Woonsocket School. If a parent cannot
attend but their child is interested in playing, please contact Nathan Hainy at

With the basketball tournaments upon us, the Blackhawk
Cheerleaders would like to remind everyone of the following Tournament Rules
that are set by the South Dakota High School Activities Association (SDHSAA).
These rules apply to all district, region and state events.
1. Banners and signs of all kinds are prohibited
2. All types of noisemakers are prohibited
3. Paper confetti and silly string are prohibited
4. Balloons are prohibited
5. Megaphones are prohibited except by a Cheerleader
6. Human tunnels created by students and/or adults are
prohibited
7. Laser pointers are prohibited and will be confiscated
8. Students are asked not to stand on the seats
9. All fans must wear shirts – Body paint is not allowed
for either students or adults
10. The following ARE permitted: Face paint, pennants,
number one fingers, foam noodles, homer hankies, rooter poms, etc.
Please help support our cheerleaders and players by using
good sportsmanship in cheering our teams to a victory. Good luck Blackhawk
cheerleaders, players and coaches!
