Thursday, January 5th-Orange Day

Semester test will take place today and tomorrow.  Students are required to be in attendance the entire day.

Both the boys and girls basketball teams will be in Howard this evening.

Boys and girls JV bus will leave at 2:15 from Woonsocket and 2:30 from Sanborn Central.
Varsity girls and boys will have a shoot around/walk thru at Woonsocket right after school.  We will leave for Howard right after wards at Approx. 4:30pm

Pre-K-8th grade report cards will be sent home on Friday, January 6th.

5-12 students, band is scheduled for the first blue Tuesday or Wednesday of the week.  If you are interested in participating, please contact Sandy Selland or e-mail Laura at laura.licht@k12.sd.us

The Blackhawk Soccer Program in collaboration with Creative Web is getting a head start on the 2023 soccer orders as a fundraiser. Forms will be handed out to K-5th grade, and are also located in the office. If you would be interested in ordering please return by Friday, February 3rd.

Extra Curricular

On Friday the wrestling athletes go to Faulkton for a triangular that starts at 6:30 pm.  

the bus will leave Springs at 2:45 pm and can pick up at the junction at 2:55 pm

On Saturday they will head to a tournament in Miller.  Bus leaves Springs at 6:45 am.  Pick up at 6:55 am.  

Both days we will be going to Wolsey and then to those events.

Scholarship Opportunities: 
Build Dakota Scholarship: 
The Build Dakota Scholarship is an excellent opportunity for high school seniors pursuing a degree at one of the four tech schools in South Dakota. The Build Dakota Scholarship is a full ride scholarship that is offered for students pursuing eligible programs. The application is now open and can be filled out online. National FFA Scholarship Program: 
Students must have a minimum GPA of 2.5 and must obtain two endorsements from eligible farmers. The application can be found using this link and is due by January 12, 2023:

Dakotaland Federal Credit Union Scholarship:

Application materials must be mailed in to Dakotaland and received before January 20, 2023. 
Girls State and Boys State: 
Ms. Amundson will be discussing Girls State and Boys State with the upperclassmen students. Junior and senior boys are eligible to apply to attend Boys State, which will be held May 29-June 2, 2023 in Aberdeen, SD at the campus of Northern State University.  

Girls State will be held on May 29-Junr 3, 2023 on the campus of USD in Vermillion, SD. Registration is due by March 1, 2023. Only junior girls are eligible to apply and attend Girls State.

ACT: 
The next ACT will be held on February 11, 2023 and can be taken in Huron or Mitchell. The registration deadline is January 6, 2023 to avoid late fees. For students who qualify for free OR reduced lunches, please see Ms. Amundson to receive a voucher to take the ACT for free. You must submit the voucher code upon registration. Registration is located online at act.org.

Community
Ages 8-13 years old to participate in the Huron Elks Hoopshoot, a free throw shooting contest, at the Nordby Center on January 7, 2023. The winners of this competition will move on to the State contest, February 4, 2023, in Pierre, SD.  The best part is that it’s; FREE!It will be open to all participants ages 8-13. Age bracket is based on   contestant age as of April 1, 2023.Attached are instructions to hold your own contest and then send your winners to Huron January 7th.  Boys Registration will begin at 9:30 A.M.
