Welcome back to another school year. If you know someone who is not signed up for the blog, please encourage them to contact Laura (laura.licht@k12.sd.us) at the school and get signed up. The blog is a great form of communication to keep everyone in the loop throughout the school year!

Parents, please have your back to school paperwork completed and back to the office by Monday, August 23rd!

Calendars are in the office for your student to bring home. Don't forget grandparents, and friends that might be interested.

Save the date: Sanborn Central NHS will be hosting a blood drive Wednesday, September 15th from 12:00-3:00 PM. Sign ups will be coming soon

Extra Curricular

JH Volleyball starts today.

Kicking off the volleyball season is the Early Bird Volleyball Tournament August 24th and 26th in Alexandria.  The Lady Blackhawks will battle Platte-Geddes at 5:15 on Court A.  2021 Early Bird Tourney

I am told only the Hanson games will be livestreamed.

The new cross country schedule is out. If your student is interested in joining the team please send Shelley an e-mail at shelley.schlicht@k12.sd.us Practice is in secession and the first meet will take place August 28th.Cross Country Schedule

The location of Friday's FB scrimmage has been moved to the practice field just west of the Woonsocket school as it is ready for use. There will not be seating available if you are interested in attending, so plan accordingly with chairs. Athletes and coaches will go through warm-ups starting at 4:00, and scrimmage play will begin at roughly 4:30 until 5:30. Reminder, there is no JH practice on Friday. If attendees would like to bring a case or two of bottled water, the team would greatly appreciate it. The sidelines on the west side will be utilized by the players, and the east is open for spectators. Also, we will keep an eye on the weather. There is a possibility of thunderstorms.

Community

Support a long time bus driver from Sanborn Central with the purchase of a Gary's Support Squad shirt.  Gary was diagnosed with Papillary Thyroid Cancer in June of this year. He had surgery on July 6 to remove the thyroid and over 120 lymph nodes on both sides of his neck. He developed complications and the Thoracic duct was leaking Chyle lymphatic fluid into his neck and chest. He had 3 surgeries to repair this with the last and successful surgery being done at Mayo in Rochester. He will have to take the Iodine Radiation pills early September and will isolate for up to 14 days. After that he will have X-Beam radiation Monday - Friday, 40 minutes a day for 6 Weeks in Sioux Falls. He is currently going to physical therapy in Mitchell.
