SCHOOL BOARD MEETING SYNOPSIS:
Mrs. Whitney has provided the following synopsis from
last night’s school board meeting:
Approved the agenda, November regular meeting minutes,
and the bills/financial report. A
spreadsheet was shared with the board on general fund revenues and expenditures
in light of receiving opt-out funds this year.
It was noted that as of November 30 that we are still using $80,931.92
of the reserves this year even with the opt out.
John Bechen asked the school board to request having
football practices in Woonsocket so that it would be more centrally located for
all.
Mrs. Whitney presented a written report that included
information on the end of the 2nd quarter/1st semester on December 21; semester
test schedule; Christmas vacation schedule with staff returning on January 2
for in-service and regular classes resuming on January 3; update on student at Children’s Home Society;
information about the marching band equipment;
received a message from Ken Schlimgen of Central Electric that there is
a rebate of $150 per unit for their mini-split air conditioning quote; and
Terry Campbell from Tessier’s going to provide a quote for air conditioning
options by the January board meeting.
Mrs. Vermeulen’s written report included information on
the upcoming Extra Help Day; the future state testing information including
having 7th and 8th math selected as part of a scientific pilot for the new
Smarter Balance Assessment to be done this year; and that the 2014 DakotaSTEP
testing will be online.
Discussion was held on whether or not our coaches had a
rule in their pre-season information packets that are signed by players and
parents that a parent cannot contact a coach within 24 hours after a game. It was noted that some area schools have this
rule to allow a cooling off period, but we do not.
Approved with regrets the resignation of Masey Pechholt
and Dayna Tschakert as Co-Head Volleyball coaches; a vote for Neil Putnam as
the Southeastern Region representative to ASBSD executive board; and paying for
the remainder of our half of the marching band equipment from Capital Outlay
after contributions from fund raisers, etc.
Adjourned at 7:38 p.m.
Next scheduled regular board meeting will be Thursday,
January 10, 2013 at 4:00 p.m. in the school’s conference room.

REMINDERS:
From Mr. Kroeger: Due to more estimated events than
expected causing students to miss lessons (weather, assemblies, myself not
being present for extra music rehearsals and events), I have reduced the number
of required lessons for this quarter from seven to five. Please check the
Parent Portal to make sure your students are up-to-date on this. All missing
lessons become a zero at the end of this week and can be made up by the end of
next week. I will be updating the grade book at the end of the day.
Help out the
Jerauld/Sanborn County Relay for Life. Alec Schmidt, a Senior at SCHS, is holding
a raffle drawing for a coffee tumbler and a very nice blanket. Raffle prices
are 1 for $2 or 3 for $5. Winners will be announced at the basketball games on
Monday, December 17 at Sanborn Central. You do not need to be present to win.
Raffle tickets may be purchased in advance or at the games. Tickets are
available at the Sanborn Central School office or by contacting Alec Schmidt at
605-412-6212 (text or call) or by emailing toddmichaelster@gmail.com. To see the full flyer and pictures of the

Friday, December 21. The items will then be donated to the Sanborn County Food
Pantry. Donations by elementary students should be given to the classroom
teacher. Middle School and High School students will drop off as listed: 6th –
Mrs. Swenson; 7th – Mrs. Farmer; 8th – Mrs. Sanderson; 9th – Mr. Danek; 10th –
Mr. Flatten; 11th – Mrs. Moody; 12th – Mrs. Whitney. A prize will be awarded to
the class with the most donations – for one week classes will be in the lunch
