SANBORN CENTRAL E-NEWS
 
Happy First Day of Winter, Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, and Happy New Year!
 
An assembly was held to honor the students who were nominated for December Middle School Student of the Month. Nominees were: Math – Sarah Morgan, VoAg – Kyla Morgan, Social Studies – Renee Farmer, Reading – Tanna Kingsbury, Language – Austin Schmit, Science – Tanna Kingsbury, Health – Sawyer Senska, Keyboarding – Tanna Kingsbury, Band – Renee Farmer, and Vocal – Logun Feistner. Star Student of the Month honors went to Tanna Kingsbury.
 
The 7/8th girls and boys had basketball games at Ethan last night. No score was available for the girls’ game. The boys won, 40-30. Quarter scores were SCW 14, 22, 31, 40 and Ethan 4, 10, 14, 30. Scoring: Trent Kingsbury – 5, Trevor Olson – 7, Garrett Dean – 4, Logun Feistner – 3, Wyatt Feistner – 8, Trey Weber – 4, Devon Weber – 2, Koby Larson – 2, Jared Goldhammer – 2, and Shaun Snedeker – 3. Rebounds: Trent – 5, Logun – 4, Wyatt – 3, Devon  and Trevor – 2, and Jared, Nathan Linke, Shaun and Garrett – 1. Steals: Trevor – 6, Wyatt and Trey – 3, Trent, Garrett, Shaun and Jared – 1. Assists: Trevor – 5.
 
Congratulations to the winning classes of the Food Pantry donations as part of Logan Moody’s Senior Project. They were Grade 2, Grade 6 and the Freshmen. These classes will get to eat first for a week.
 
Changes to boys’ basketball practice schedule over break: No practice on Saturday, December 22. On January 1, practice will be for high school only at 1:00 p.m. at Sanborn Central (changed from being at Woonsocket), followed by bowl game watching at Coach Olson’s house.

TODAY - FRIDAY:
 
School will dismiss early at 11:00 a.m. today. Breakfast will be served but not lunch.
 
Today is the end of the 2nd Quarter and the 1st Semester.

CHRISTMAS BREAK EVENTS:
 
No school from Monday, December 24 through Wednesday, January 2 (teachers have an in-service that day). School for students resumes on Thursday, January 3.
 
There is a Boys C Basketball Tournament on Friday, December 28 at McCook-Montrose in Salem. The SCW Blackhawks play their first game at 9:00 a.m. against Parker in the old gym. Click link for a complete schedule.
 
 
The Blackhawks have a big day of basketball games against Hitchcock/Tulare at HITCHCOCK on Saturday, December 29. Games start at 11:00 a.m. in the following order: JH Girls, JH Boys, JV Girls, JV Boys, Varsity Girls (approx. 3:00 p.m.), and Varsity Boys (approx. 4:30 p.m.). Game times are approximate.
 
Each school will transport their JH girls and JH boys to Hitchcock. The charter bus will pick up JV and Varsity girls and boys at Sanborn Central at 11:00 a.m. and Woonsocket at 11:15 a.m.
 
The boys have basketball games against Andes Central on Thursday, January 3 at Woonsocket. The JV boys will play at 6:30 p.m. followed by the Varsity boys.
 
The JV girls will be playing in a basketball jamboree at Mt. Vernon on Saturday, January 5. The schedule will be set at a later date.
 
There are double-header basketball games against Mt. Vernon/Plankinton at Plankinton on Saturday, January 5. Games will start at 1:00 p.m. in the following order: JH Girls, JH Boys, JV Boys, Varsity Girls, Varsity Boys.
 
There will be a Community Bridal Shower on Friday, January 4 at 7:00 p.m. in the Letcher Community Center for Kelsey Price. Kelsey will be marrying Shawn Ruml in January.

REMINDERS:
 
If you’d like to help 4-H Shooting Sports out, go to www.truckvaultcares.com and vote for “4-H Shooting Sports”. The more votes they get, the bigger proportion they’ll get of the $10,000 that is being donated to the various groups involved. Adults may vote daily until December 31. (Click on “About” at this website to learn more.)
 
Logan Moody is conducting a food drive at Sanborn Central as part of her Senior Project, “What Can I Do to Help.” Students are welcome to bring non-perishable food items to the school between Wednesday, December 5 and Friday, December 21. The items will then be donated to the Sanborn County Food Pantry. Donations by elementary students should be given to the classroom teacher. Middle School and High School students will drop off as listed: 6th – Mrs. Swenson; 7th – Mrs. Farmer; 8th – Mrs. Sanderson; 9th – Mr. Danek; 10th – Mr. Flatten; 11th – Mrs. Moody; 12th – Mrs. Whitney. A prize will be awarded to the class with the most donations – for one week classes will be in the lunch line according to the total size of their donation (the class with the most will be served first, second largest served next, and on down the line).
 
The Glass Slipper event will once again be held at the First United Methodist Church in Mitchell the second weekend in February, 2013. They are taking donated prom dresses, jewelry and shoes for girls who are in need of prom dresses for this school year. If you would like to donate prom dresses, jewelry or shoes, they can be dropped off with Mary in the Sanborn Central School office and she will make sure they get to the Glass Slipper event. Donations may also be dropped off at the church office at 310 N. Rowley in Mitchell, Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
