The Middle School update letters for next week can be

The SCW 5/6th boys beat Wessington Springs last night in
basketball, 19-8. They lost their game on Tuesday against Wolsey/Wessington,
6-24. No score was available from last night’s girls’ 5/6th game.
The schedule for band lessons has changed for the 2nd
quarter. New lists will be posted and have been e-mailed.

TODAY - FRIDAY:
Today is the end of the First Quarter.
The High School Student of the Month assembly will be
held this morning.
There will be a short meeting at 3:00 p.m. today for
Sanborn Central boys in grades 7-12 that are going out for basketball.
The Lady Blackhawks have volleyball games tonight against
Emery/Bridgewater at Sanborn Central. The 7th Grade will play at 4:30 p.m., 8th
Grade at 5:15 p.m., JV at 6:30 p.m. and Varsity at 8:00 p.m.
Tonight is the 3rd Annual Dig Pink Night. The Sanborn
Central/Woonsocket volleyball team will be providing the following activities
to help fight the battle against cancer.
Benefit Walk – 2:55 – 4:00 p.m. – The Benefit Walk will
take place in the Sanborn Central Gym. If the weather cooperates, they may walk
outside. All communities are welcome to join. There will be a change drop for
any donations. Grades PK-5 will be walking from 2:55 to 3:10 before loading the
busses. Any parent that would like to walk with their child is more than
welcome. (Please let the office know, before you walk, if you will be taking
your child home with you.)
Tailgate Party – Starts at 4:00 p.m. – BBQ, chips, drink
and popcorn ball for $5.00.
Bake Sale – Goodie plates will be sold for $5.00/plate.
Big J from KMIT Radio will be emceeing the Dig Pink Night
festivities.
Luminaries will be set up honoring all cancer survivors
or those who have lost the battle to cancer.
Volleyball players will be recognizing cancer survivors
or those who have lost the battle to cancer with a special flower ceremony.
There will be an auction for a great gift basket full of
wonderful cancer awareness items.
There will be a Serve-a-thon between all games beginning
at 5:15 p.m.
Prizes will be given for the Best “Proud to Wear Pink”
Outfit. Divisions include PreK-5, Middle School, High School, and Adult.
Survivor Give-away – Movie Raffle
Hair accessories will be sold for various prices.
Prizes will be given away throughout the evening.
Salem/Storla/Trinity
Lutheran Youth Group is sponsoring another “5th Quarter” from 7:00 – 11:00 p.m.
tonight. What is “5th Quarter”? It is a chance for All Area High School youth
to gather after their football games for the 3 Fs – Fellowship, Fun and Food.
Youth Advisors Dave and Dawnette Anderson will open their home following the
games. There is a pool and hot tub, video games, a pool table, and food. The
cost is covered by the youth group. Bring your own suit and towel. Dave and
Dawnette Anderson live at 108 Northview Road in Mt. Vernon and can be reached

SATURDAY:
There will be a Signature Homestyles Open House at Rachel
Austerman’s home on Saturday from 2:00 – 5:30 p.m. Guests will have the
opportunity to view the product displayed throughout the home, purchase
product, book a home or catalog show, sign up for door prizes, and inquire
about Signature Homestyles products along with the great business
opportunity. If you need directions to Rachel’s home or if you are unable
to attend but are interested in placing an order, booking a show, or learning
more about joining Rachel’s team to earn extra income please contact Rachel at

The Letcher Fire Department is sponsoring a Halibut Fish
Fry and Poker Tournament on Saturday night in the Letcher Fire Hall and
Community Center. Dinner and sign-up starts at 5:30 p.m. Dealing starts at 7:00
p.m. Texas Hold ‘em style poker will be played for only a $25 entry fee. Free
will donations will be accepted for the meal. For more information, contact

SUNDAY:
The Town and Kountry Kids 4-H Club – Blue Group will be
meeting on Sunday at 5:00 p.m. at the Letcher Community Center. New members are
welcome.

MONDAY:
No school on Monday. It’s Pheasant Monday.
The Lady Blackhawks have volleyball games against Mt.
Vernon/Plankinton on Monday at Plankinton. The 7th grade will play at 4:30
p.m., JH at 5:15 p.m., JV at 6:30 p.m. and Varsity around 8:00 p.m. The player
bus will leave at 3:15 p.m.
The 5/6th basketball teams have games on Monday against
Wolsey-Wessington at Wolsey. The girls play at 6:00 p.m. and the boys when
they’re finished.

TUESDAY:
The Seniors’ Letters of Intent are due on Tuesday for
their Senior Experience Projects.
The Sanborn Central “Governor’s Debate” will take place
between the Senior candidates on Tuesday afternoon as part of their government
election project.

THURSDAY:
Report cards go home with students on Thursday.
Kemps is discontinuing their school rewards program. There
will be one last chance to send in any Kemps $.05 rewards. They must be turned
into the school office by Thursday to qualify. Kemps will implement some
type of new rewards program at the beginning of 2013. You will be kept posted
as soon as new information is given.

REMINDERS:
The Sanborn Central 7-12 band students will be selling
frozen foods starting now through Wednesday, October 31. The money raised will
help them go on band trips in the years to come. Contact a band member to
purchase or for more information.
Dig out your old tennis shoes and knee pads! The SCW
Volleyball Team will be hosting a Jungle Ball Volleyball tournament on Friday,
October 26 at 6:00 p.m. in the Sanborn Central Gym. Single elimination
tournament will be played with any mix of players from grades 7-adult teams. There
may be NO MORE than 3 males playing at one time, however you can have a team of
all girls. Games will be best 2 out of 3. Entry fee is $20 per team which will
go directly to the volleyball team. Entry forms and more info will be released
in the next couple of days. Any questions, contact one of the Volleyball
coaches.
From Mr. Gross: Sanborn Central FFA members are currently selling
Crystalyx discount cards through the Earn to Learn program. Each card saves the
producer $40 on 1 ton of Crystalyx Brand Supplements. In return, the producer
pays the FFA member $20 for each card. This money stays with our local FFA
chapter to support our agricultural education program and chapter
activities. To purchase a card, speak with any Sanborn Central FFA member.
We will also be selling the cards at the Forestburg Farmers Elevator producer
supper on Wednesday, October 24. If you have any questions, feel free to

Any high school student who is or was in FFA and has an FFA jacket
that they got from the Ag room, please return it.
The Letcher Community Development Foundation invites the
public to join in supporting the Zoss family by purchasing needed household
items to replace what was lost in their fire. There will be an open house
shower on Saturday, October 27 from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at the Letcher Community
Center. Kathy will be registering at Walmart and Shopko. Breakfast will be served.
If you are unable to attend, contributions may be dropped off at Sanborn
Central and Mary Ackman will get them to the shower.
