SANBORN CENTRAL E-NEWS
 
The community is saddened at the news of the fire that destroyed the home of Kathy, Fred, Andrew and Dalen Zoss of rural Letcher last night.
 
The Lady Blackhawks travelled to Armour last night to take on the Tripp-Delmont/Armour girls in Volleyball. Here are the stats from Coach Pechholt.

C-Team: Won 2-0 (25-18, 25-22) Leader Kills: Gabby Twedt, Tanna Kingsbury, Kyla Morgan 2; Leader Digs: Kyla Morgan 7; Leader Aces: Tanna Kingsbury 3; Leader Assists: Breanne Brandenburg 2.

TODAY – FRIDAY:
 
The Marching Band will have practice in Woonsocket this morning.
 
The Blackhawks have football games tonight at 7:00 p.m. against Wolsey/Wessington at Wessington Springs.
 
Today is Homecoming for Wessington Springs.
 
Tonight’s game will be broadcast on KOKK 1210 AM radio.
 
There will be a Homecoming Tailgate Party at the Wessington Springs Football Field tonight from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. Meals will be $5.00 (Jack Link’s pork sandwich, chips, cookie and pop) with an additional sandwich for $2.00. The meal is being sponsored by American Bank and Trust and Jack Link’s Beef Jerky. Proceeds will benefit Wessington Springs athletics.
 
Salem/Storla/Trinity Lutheran Youth Group is sponsoring another “5th Quarter” tonight from 9:00 – 11:00 p.m. What is “5th Quarter”? It is a chance for All Area High School youth to gather after their football games for the 3 Fs – Fellowship, Fun and Food. Youth Advisors Dave and Dawnette Anderson will open their home following the games. There is a pool and hot tub, video games, a pool table, and food. The cost is covered by the youth group. Bring your own suit and towel. Dave and Dawnette Anderson live at 108 Northview Road in Mt. Vernon and can be reached at 605-236-5480.

SATURDAY:
 
The SC/W Marching Band will be marching in the DWU parade in Mitchell on Saturday morning. The parade starts at 10:30 a.m.
 
Here is the tentative schedule and attire information from Mr. Kroeger:
 
8:15 a.m. – Be at school to load instruments
8:30 a.m. – Leave for Mitchell’s DWU Parade
9:00 a.m. – Arrive in Mitchell to check-in and get ready for the parade
10:00 a.m. – Parade line-up
10:30 a.m. – Parade starts
11:30 a.m. – Awards – After Awards, we will load busses for return trip
12:30 p.m. – APPROXIMATE time we will arrive back at the school
 
Uniforms for Saturday:
 
Brass and woodwind players – Band polos, blue jeans and shoes
Drumline – Band pep shirts, blue jeans and shoes
Colorguard (Flagline) – The outfit they come up with to march in, as long as they are all the same
 
The weather on Saturday might be cold so EVERYONE should bring a LONG SLEEVE SHIRT to put under their band polo shirt. White is the preferred color, but if not possible, please wear Blackhawk colors for the undershirt.
 
Also, parents are required to fill out a release form if they are taking their student home with them after the parade.
 
If time allows, the bus may stop at a gas station or fast food restaurant to get something to eat on the way back. Students may want to bring money along if they wish to get something when they stop.

There will be a Craft/Vendor Fair on Saturday in the Woonsocket Gym from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

SUNDAY:
 
St. Charles Catholic Church in Artesian will be hosting a parish potluck after the 10:30 a.m. mass on Sunday in honor of Father Jim’s birthday.
 
There will be a basketball cheerleading meeting at the Sanborn Central Commons at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday.
 
The Fun Day in Letcher for Sunday has been CANCELLED.

MONDAY:
 
No school on Monday.
 
Monday is an Extra Help Day. Middle School and High School students with missing assignments will need to be at school at 8:00 a.m. The parents of students with missing assignments will be contacted on Friday.
 
Parent-Teacher Conferences will be held at Sanborn Central on Monday afternoon from 1:00 – 6:00 p.m. Middle School and High School students whose parents come to conferences will receive bonus points in those classes. If a parent is unable to attend, an e-mail or phone call will suffice. The last day for teacher contact to still earn bonus points will be Monday, October 15.
 
Mr. Kroeger and Mr. Olsen will be at conferences from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. Mr. Flatten will be at conferences from 12:00 noon until 2:00 p.m. Teachers who are not at conferences when parents are there can be contacted by phone or email.
 
There will be volleyball practices for Grades 7-12 in Woonsocket on Monday from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. Students are responsible for getting to practice on their own because there is no school.

The 5/6th basketball teams have games at James Valley Christian in Huron on Monday. The girls will play at 6:00 p.m. and the boys will follow.
 
The School Board will have their October meeting on Monday night at 7:00 p.m. in the Sanborn Central Conference Room.

TUESDAY:
 
The CBH Oral Interp Competition will be held on Tuesday in Mitchell. The participant bus will be leaving at 7:30 a.m.
 
The 5/6th basketball teams have games against Hitchcock-Tulare at Sanborn Central on Tuesday. The girls play at 5:00 p.m., followed by the boys.
 
The Lady Blackhawks have volleyball matches against James Valley Christian at Woonsocket on Tuesday. JH starts at 5:15 p.m., followed by JV at 6:30 p.m. and Varsity when they’re finished.

REMINDERS:
 
Mitchell High School will be hosting a Fall 2012 ACT Prep Course on November 12, November 19, November 26 and December 3, all at 6:30 p.m. There will be Reading, Math, Science and English reviews, as well as scored practice exams and test-taking tips. Cost is $45.00 (make checks payable to Mitchell High School). Students should register early to ensure that they have a book for the first night of class. See Mary or Mrs. Whitney for registration information.
 
The South Dakota Department of Health will again be offering free seasonal influenza vaccine to all children 6 months through 18 years of age. A flu clinic for school-age children will be held at Sanborn Central on Wednesday, October 31 from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. The state is supplying the vaccine free of charge and there will be no administration fee at the school-based clinic. If you have any questions, please contact the Community Health Office at 605-796-4510. Consent forms are due to the school by Friday, October 26, and can be found in the Flu folder at the following Sanborn Central Google Drive link:
 
 
Sanborn Central requests that every student 2nd grade and below be accompanies by a parent. If your child is one who doesn’t like shots, regardless of age, it is suggested that you accompany them. They need to keep the line running smoothly so that everyone has a chance to be immunized.
