SANBORN CENTRAL E-NEWS
 
The Lady Blackhawks will be sponsoring a Jungle Ball Volleyball Tournament on Friday night starting at 6:00 p.m. in the Sanborn Central Gym.  There is a $20 entry fee per team. Team members may be groups of anyone Grade 7 – adult. Each team may only have 3 guys on the court at a time; however, there may be up to 6 girls on the court at once per team. This will be a single elimination tournament with the best 2 out of 3 games to a score of 21. Fill out the entry form by following the link below, or email Tracy Moody at tracy.moody@k12.sd.us a list of your team members, team captain with phone number, and team name. This is a fundraiser for the SCW Lady Blackhawks volleyball team. Concessions will be served. No admission will be charged.
 
 
Congratulations to the following nominees for the August/September High School Student of the Month: Science – Candace Page-Marten, Social Science – Molly Nicholson, PE – Tom Hetland, AgEd – Jessica Schmit, English – Tristen Wormstadt, Applied Math – Alec Schmidt, Math – Todd Stekl, Computers – Morgan Selland, Band – Nick Miller, and Vocal Music – Ashley Schmit. Star Student of the Month was Jessica Schmit.
 
The 5/6th basketball teams had games against Wolsey-Wessington last night at Wolsey. The boys lost, 11-23. The girls lost, 12-20. Last Thursday, the girls beat Wessington Springs, 27-12.
 
The Lady Blackhawks hosted Bridgewater-Emery for volleyball on Friday night. Here are the stats:
 
7th Grade: Won 2-0 (25-22, 26-24) Leader Aces: Alissa Ball 5 aces.
 
8th Grade: Won 3-0 (25-11, 25-18, 15-11) Leader Kills: Tanna Kingsbury 5; Leader Aces: Tanna Kingsbury 12; Leader Digs: Tanna Kingsbury 2; Leader Assists: Kayla Olson 6.

The Varsity volleyball team will have NO practice today. The rest of practices this week will be at Sanborn Central. Next week’s practices will be in Woonsocket.

TODAY - TUESDAY:
 
The Sanborn Central “Governor’s Debate” will take place between the Senior candidates this afternoon as part of their government election project.
 
The Postal Service will hold a meeting at the Letcher Post Office at 119 E. Main Street in Letcher today at 5:30 p.m. to answer questions and provide additional information regarding the survey that was recently sent to postal customers regarding changes in service in the area.

From Mr. Gross: Sanborn Central FFA members are currently selling Crystalyx discount cards through the Earn to Learn program. Each card saves the producer $40 on 1 ton of Crystalyx Brand Supplements. In return, the producer pays the FFA member $20 for each card. This money stays with our local FFA chapter to support our agricultural education program and chapter activities. To purchase a card, speak with any Sanborn Central FFA member. Report cards go home with students on Thursday.
 
Kemps is discontinuing their school rewards program. There will be one last chance to send in any Kemps $.05 rewards. They must be turned into the school office by Thursday to qualify.  Kemps will implement some type of new rewards program at the beginning of 2013. You will be kept posted as soon as new information is given.

FRIDAY:
 
Friday is the last day for Seniors to turn in their Letters of Intent for their Senior Experience projects.
 
The 5/6th girls and boys have basketball practice after school on Friday at Sanborn Central.
 
Consent forms for the October 31 flu vaccinations are due at the school by Friday. See below under "Reminders" for more information.

SATURDAY:
 
The 5/6th girls will be participating in a basketball jamboree in Mt. Vernon on Saturday. The jamboree starts at 9:00 a.m. The Lady Blackhawks’ first game is at 9:35 a.m. against White Lake. Click below for the complete schedule.
 
 
The Letcher Community Development Foundation invites the public to join in supporting the Zoss family by purchasing needed household items to replace what was lost in their fire. There will be an open house shower on Saturday from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. at the Letcher Community Center. Kathy will be registering at Walmart and Shopko. Breakfast will be served. If you are unable to attend, contributions may be dropped off at Sanborn Central and Mary Ackman will get them to the shower.

SUNDAY:
 
The Letcher Community Halloween Party and Town-n-Kountry 4-H Club Halloween Carnival will be held at the Letcher Community Center on Sunday afternoon. Costume judging will start promptly at 3:00 p.m. Games will start at 3:30 p.m. There are several new games this year, they will be playing a Halloween movie for the younger kids, and the Jumpy House will be up. Snacks will be provided. Each family is asked to donate a cake for the cake walk, or a gently used book for the book walk. Admission will be a free will donation or a canned good for the food pantry.
 
Trunk-or-Treat will begin at 4:00 p.m. behind the Community Center. Anyone wishing to participate needs to be set up and ready to hand out candy by 4:00 p.m. Trunk-or-Treat was moved to the area behind the Community Center this year so there are no traffic worries.

REMINDERS:
 
The South Dakota Department of Health will again be offering free seasonal influenza vaccine to all children 6 months through 18 years of age. A flu clinic for school-age children will be held at Sanborn Central on Wednesday, October 31 from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. The state is supplying the vaccine free of charge and there will be no administration fee at the school-based clinic. If you have any questions, please contact the Community Health Office at 605-796-4510. Consent forms are due to the school by Friday, October 26, and can be found in the Flu folder at the following Sanborn Central Google Drive link:
 
 
Sanborn Central requests that every student 2nd grade and below be accompanies by a parent. If your child is one who doesn’t like shots, regardless of age, it is suggested that you accompany them. They need to keep the line running smoothly so that everyone has a chance to be immunized.
 
The Sanborn Central 7-12 band students will be selling frozen foods starting now through Wednesday, October 31. The money raised will help them go on band trips in the years to come. Contact a band member to purchase or for more information.
