SANBORN CENTRAL E-NEWS
 
Reminder: This is the last week for Food Pantry donations. This project is being organized by Logan Moody for her Senior Project. Read more below under Reminders.
 
Congratulations to Kayla Olson. Her Patriot’s Pen Essay has been sent on to the VFW District Auxiliary completion. Her essay topic was “What Would I Tell America’s Founding Fathers.”
 
The Blackhawks hosted Howard at Sanborn Central last night for basketball games.
 
The JV girls won, 41-22. Leaders were Morgan Selland with 11 points; Ashley Schmit with 10 points, 7 rebounds and 3 steals; Myah Selland with 8 points and 4 steals, and Kelbi Dean with 5 rebounds and 3 steals.
 
The JV boys won, 43-13. Leading scorers: Jarid Bechen – 10, Cole Wormstadt – 9, Brady Tiede – 8, Joe Davis – 6, Josh Feiner – 5.
 
The Varsity girls won, 60-42. Leaders: Shelby Selland – 16 points, 9 rebounds; Marissa Weber – 12 points, Rachel Selland – 10 points. Rachelle Moore – 9 points, 5 assists, 4 steals.
 
The Varsity boys won, 65-56. Scoring: Tyler Krueger – 15, Todd Stekl – 6, Nick Miller – 12, Davion Brooks – 18, Drew Hinker – 6, Jaedyn Ford – 2, Tucker Kingsbury – 6. Leading in rebounds was Nick with 8 and Davion with 7. Nick had 8 assists, and Tyler and Todd had 5 steals each. The Blackhawks were 24/39 for free throws (62%).
 
The Glass Slipper event will once again be held at the First United Methodist Church in Mitchell the second weekend in February, 2013. They are taking donated prom dresses, jewelry and shoes for girls who are in need of prom dresses for this school year. If you would like to donate prom dresses, jewelry or shoes, they can be dropped off with Mary in the Sanborn Central School office and she will make sure they get to the Glass Slipper event. Donations may also be dropped off at the church office at 310 N. Rowley in Mitchell, Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The Blackhawks have a big day of basketball games against Hitchcock/Tulare at HITCHCOCK on Saturday, December 29. Games start at 11:00 a.m. in the following order: JH Girls, JH Boys, JV Girls, JV Boys, Varsity Girls (approx. 3:00 p.m.), and Varsity Boys (approx. 4:30 p.m.). Game times are approximate.
 
Each school will transport their JH girls and JH boys to Hitchcock. The charter bus will pick up JV and Varsity girls and boys at Sanborn Central at 11:00 a.m. and Woonsocket at 11:15 a.m.
 
The boys have basketball games against Andes Central on Thursday, January 3 at Woonsocket. The JV boys will play at 6:30 p.m. followed by the Varsity boys.

REMINDERS:
 
Logan Moody is conducting a food drive at Sanborn Central as part of her Senior Project, “What Can I Do to Help.” Students are welcome to bring non-perishable food items to the school between Wednesday, December 5 and Friday, December 21. The items will then be donated to the Sanborn County Food Pantry. Donations by elementary students should be given to the classroom teacher. Middle School and High School students will drop off as listed: 6th – Mrs. Swenson; 7th – Mrs. Farmer; 8th – Mrs. Sanderson; 9th – Mr. Danek; 10th – Mr. Flatten; 11th – Mrs. Moody; 12th – Mrs. Whitney. A prize will be awarded to the class with the most donations – for one week classes will be in the lunch line according to the total size of their donation (the class with the most will be served first, second largest served next, and on down the line).

The Juniors will be auctioning the 2 front parking spots at half-time of the Boys’ Varsity game tonight, as well as selling Christmas plates of goodies for $5 each throughout the evening until they are gone. Merry Christmas to all from the Junior Class!
 
The JV and Varsity Blackhawks had games against Tripp/Delmont/Armour (TDA) on Thursday night.

Booster Club concession stand workers for tonight are Wes and Sherri Stekl, Delmas and Tobi Duffel, and Roger and Cheryl Schmit.
 
The Pep Band is scheduled to play tonight. They need to be present and ready to play by 5:45 p.m.
 
The Junior Class will be selling $5 plates of Christmas goodies during the games, as well as auctioning off the 2 front parking spots for the basketball season for fundraisers.
 
Help out the Jerauld/Sanborn County Relay for Life. Alec Schmidt, a Senior at SCHS, is holding a raffle drawing for a coffee tumbler and a very nice blanket. Raffle prices are 1 for $2 or 3 for $5. SANBORN CENTRAL E-NEWS
 
Basketball practice for boys for tomorrow (Friday) has been changed to 12:00 noon at Woonsocket. The girls will still have practice at 1:30 p.m. at Sanborn Central.
 
Next week will be School Spirit and Holiday Spirit Week. Everyone should dress accordingly and enjoy the festivities.
 
The Black Hills Angus Association is awarding scholarships for the 2013-2014 school year to graduating seniors who are actively involved with Angus cattle. Contact Mrs. Whitney for more information.

Sanborn Central will be enjoying their Christmas dinner today. Middle School Student Council members will be helping serve.
 
Any student with missing assignments will be required to attend Extra Help Day tomorrow morning at 8:00 a.m. Parents of those students will be notified this afternoon.
 
The Blackhawks travel to Armour today to take on Tripp-Delmont-Armour for basketball double-header games that will start at 4:00 p.m. in the following order: Girls JV, Boys JV, Girls Varsity, Boys Varsity. The charter bus will pick up the Sanborn Central players at 2:15 p.m. and the Woonsocket players at 2:30 p.m.
 
KOOL-98 Radio will be broadcasting the Varsity Girls and Varsity Boys’ basketball games from Armour tonight. Approximate start time is probably between 6:15 and 6:30 p.m.

The Letcher Legion is sponsoring Santa and Turkey Bingo on Saturday with all events being held at the Letcher Community Center. Santa will be handing out sacks of goodies from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. There will be a supper starting at 6:30 p.m. with BBQs and pie. Turkey Bingo starts at 8:00 p.m. with winning Bingo players each receiving a turkey.
 
The Artesian Community Improvement Association (CIA) Membership Drive and Christmas Ham Drawing will be held on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at the Artesian Community Center. Lunch will be served. They will be drawing for gifts and Santa Claus will be there.

From Twin Lakes Resort: Twin Lakes Resort will be opening for Sunday Football from 12:00 noon to 5:00 p.m. during the NFL season. Football games will be playing on all big screens TV’s and a dinner buffet will be offered. All food will be donated by Twin Lakes and proceeds from the buffet will go to the Sanborn Central/Woonsocket School Band to help with the cost of band instruments. Twin Lakes will offer the buffet (free will donation) every Sunday starting at noon until the food runs out or 5:00 p.m., whichever comes first. Stop out, catch the game and help out our band program! Hope to see you all at the Lake.

Basketball practice: Girls at Woonsocket, Boys at Sanborn Central
 
The JH girls and boys have basketball games at Ethan next Thursday. The girls will play at 6:00 p.m. followed by the boys.

FRIDAY (December 21):
 
School will dismiss early at 11:00 a.m. next Friday. Breakfast will be served but not lunch.

Mary has a limited supply of Blackhawk window decals in the school office, as well as copies of “The Blackhawk Scope,” all for $3 each with proceeds going to the Woonsocket NHS. Contact Mary at 605-495-4183 or mary.ackman@k12.sd.us.

From Mr. Kroeger: Due to more estimated events than expected causing students to miss lessons (weather, assemblies, myself not being present for extra music rehearsals and events), I have reduced the number of required lessons for this quarter from seven to five. Please check the Parent Portal to make sure your students are up-to-date on this. All missing lessons become a zero at the end of this week and can be made up by the end of next week. I will be updating the grade book at the end of the day.

Logan Moody is conducting a food drive at Sanborn Central as part of her Senior Project, “What Can I Do to Help.” Students are welcome to bring non-perishable food items to the school between Wednesday, December 5 and Friday, December 21. The items will then be donated to the Sanborn County Food Pantry. Donations by elementary students should be given to the classroom teacher. Middle School and High School students will drop off as listed: 6th – Mrs. Swenson; 7th – Mrs. Farmer; 8th – Mrs. Sanderson; 9th – Mr. Danek; 10th – Mr. Flatten; 11th – Mrs. Moody; 12th – Mrs. Whitney. A prize will be awarded to the class with the most donations – for one week classes will be in the lunch line according to the total size of their donation (the class with the most will be served first, second largest served next, and on down the line).
