Children’s Auditions for THE SUPERHERO SHOW! Sanborn Central School District – Calling
Kindergarten-8th grade thespians in Forestburg, SD! Dakota Players is on the hunt for the next wave of superheroes to star in their original musical production, The Superhero Show! Ready to answer the call? Take note of the audition details below and get ready for a week of theatre fun! This production has roles for all ages, skills and experience levels - so no need to have superpowers (unless you already have some!). During the five-day intensive rehearsals, you'll learn the ropes of acting, singing and even dancing, all building up to a show-stopping performance. Plus, if you're an older child, you can learn how to work the sound and lighting equipment, adding some extra pizzazz to the show! So, let's band together, unite our powers, and create some theatrical magic!

NO EXPERIENCE OR ADVANCED PREPARATION IS NEEDED. Auditions for Dakota Players’ original musical production of The Superhero Show will be held on November 18 AT 3:30 at Sanborn Central School. Rehearsals will begin at 5:30 on November 18. This residency in Sanborn Central School District is made possible by the school district and Sanborn Central Booster Club with support from the State of South Dakota, through the Department of Tourism and State Development, the National Endowment for the Arts. From the Lunchroom: 
Thank you for all who attended the Let's Talk Lunch meeting Wednesday evening. Below is a brief synopsis of topics that we touched on. 

Starting on Monday, October 28th, the Sanborn Central School will be making the following changes to the lunch program:
-PreK-2 will not be offered a la carte.
-Grades 3-5 will be offered a condensed version of a la carte
-Salad bar seconds will be of no charge including additional condiments
-During the 2025-2026 school year, PreK-2 will eat earlier at 11:00 and MS/HS students will eat at 12:00
-Sanborn Central School is forming a committee to look into the Farm to School Program to research its possible benefits to the school

*Seconds on entrée and sides will be available to all grades at a charge but the salad bar is free for seconds with the purchase of a meal. A la carte refers to the additional smart snacks that can be purchased at the end of a meal.

Sanborn Central is seeking a responsible Lunchroom Substitute to ensure smooth lunchroom operations and provide a positive dining experience for students. Responsibilities include meal preparation, serving food, maintaining cleanliness, and supporting regular staff. Ideal candidates should be friendly, team-oriented, and efficient in a fast-paced environment. If interested, please contact Laura Conrad at 605-495-4183 or email her at laura.conrad@k12.sd.us.

Infinite Campus parent and student portal-MS and HS parent and students that do not have  a portal through infinite campus please talk to Laura in the office. This portal is a helpful tool to allow you to follow along with school year progress from grades, attendance, assignments and more!

Extra Curricular
Sean, Olivia, Temperance, Miley, Hudson, Ian, Riley will be out tomorrow for Oral Interp.
They will depart at 6:30, and it will end around 12:30, therefore they will be back by the end of the school day. 

The Hanson Earlybird JH Girls BB tourny will be Saturday, Nov. 23rd at Hanson School. (this is a later date than in the previous years). We are planning to take our JH girls BB team again this year.

October 26th the JH VB will travel to Iroquois for the "Big Spike" VB Tournament. JH Iroquois VB Tournament The makeup date with Howard for volleyball will be Monday, Oct. 28.
The C match will start at 5:00, followed by JV and V.
There will be no junior high games as there season has ended and they are starting basketball.

Notes from Mrs. Gassman (Miss Amundson)
October 1st kicks off the start of South Dakota's Free College Application Period. From October 1st to November 30th our high school seniors can apply to any college in South Dakota for FREE!

On Friday, October 25th (orange day) during 1st block, all sophomores, juniors, and seniors will report to Mrs. Wilson's room for the math and science ACT review session.
Thank you so much for your cooperation with these ACT prep sessions!

The district ACT will be held on Tuesday, October 29th at 8:15. The cost is $55.50 per student, and payment can be made with cash or check made out to "Sanborn Central School". Please return payment to Mrs. Gassman. Mrs. Wilson, Mrs. Olson-VanWinkle, and Ms. Farrell-Poncelet will have the sophomores, juniors, and seniors take a practice ACT test in each subject (math, science, reading, and english) during their regular class period. The review sessions will be held on Wednesday, October 23rd during 3rd block (reading and english in Ms. Farrell-Poncelet's room) and Friday, October 25th during 1st block (math and science in Mrs. Wilson's room).

The juniors will be taking the ASVAB on Tuesday, November 12 at 8:30 AM. (**Please note this date change as it has changed from October 22 to November 12).

The seniors will be taking the NCRC on Monday, November 18 at 8:30 AM.

Artesian Area WWTS to present Program
The Artesian Area WWTS will have a Bible based Halloween program on Wednesday, Oct. 30th at 5:00 pm at the Artesian First Lutheran Church. The kids will sing songs and read and portray Bible stories with corresponding snacks to go along with the stories. All are welcome especially parents and grandparents. We are looking forward to a time of fun and fellowship.

The next food giveaway is Wednesday, November 6th 2024 at 4PM until gone at the Sanborn County Courthouse.

Letcher American Legion Auxiliary hosting a Veterans Pot Luck supper Sunday November 10 at 5:30 . All veterans and their families welcome. Bring a dish to share and come support  our Veterans.

Also:  Letcher Legion Auxiliary is having a blood drive Monday November 11 from 2:30 to 6 pm at the Letcher community center. If you wish to donate call Sandi Ruml 770-0678.
