Blackhawk Nation, I wanted to take this time to introduce myself.  I am originally from Brandon, South Dakota and attended the University of Sioux Falls.  I have been married for over twenty years to my wonderful wife Joselyn.  I have coached and taught for twenty plus years at various levels.  I have experienced coaching at Huron, Aberdeen Central, Leola Frederick, and Eagle Butte.I have coached various positions on the field, including defensive line, secondary, quarterbacks, offensive line, and wide receivers. I have been able to learn from great coaches along my journey.  As the Head Coach in Huron I was able to lead the tiger to the 11AA Championship game.  I am very excited to be a part of the Blackhawk family and look forward to seeing the journey we have in front of us.  I will be setting up a player and parent meeting in the next week or two.  I am working on our summer schedule and summer workouts as we speak and I will get that out to everyone as soon as I can.   Coach Micheal Schmitz
Blackhawk football players and parents are invited to Woonsocket gym on Sunday, May 5th to meet new Blackhawk head football coach, Micheal Schmitz.   All next year 7-12 players and parents are invited.  Coach Schmitz will give some information about himself and how he will be proceeding with the program.   Information about summer football activities will be discussed as well.    Hope to see all football players and parents at Woonsocket on Sunday, May 5 at 5:30 pm.

June Schedule
July Schedule

The Games Fish & Parks is putting together a trailer with rods, fishing equipment, etc for a fishing workshop.  At this point, we can determine how long we want the workshop to be and what we would want them to teach.

I have tentatively set a date of Monday, July 22nd.  This would be open to all youth.  (We request someone accompany the Cloverbuds or younger 4-Hers to help with the actual fishing part.)

At this time, I need your input back on…

  • Are your youth interested in attending a fishing workshop?
  • Will Monday, July 22nd work for you?
  • What would you like to learn about?
Please contact Sherryl Rankin with input on this topic at 605-796-4380

    Baseball is back!

Artesian/Letcher baseball is just around the corner, with our first game against Salem on May 19th in Letcher. We have our first practice and parents meeting this Sunday night. Please have your kids try on jerseys before Sunday, so we can get an idea of what needs to be ordered. Remember, the team your child plays on is based on their age on January 1st of this year.

We are looking forward to a fun summer of baseball!
