Eligibility will go into effect on Thursday.  Teachers, please have your grades posted by noon on Wednesday. 
Miss. Ronning will be checking grades on Wednesday at 3:15 pm for FFA members signed up for the Lennox CDE on Thursday. If a student’s is missing work or failing - please let Miss. Ronning know, the student will stay at school to get caught up!

Wednesday at 10:55 the High School will receive report cards and honor roll will be presented.

Wednesday, April 3rd MS/HS will listen to Amanda Radke in the gym at 9 am for her presentations on agricultural careers
She will then read her new book in the library starting at 10 am with PreK-2nd grade and 3-5th grade at 10:20 am.  Students will also be able to purchase a signed copy of the book the day of the reading.  Copies are for sale to the public - you may e-mail orders to jessica.ronning@k12.sd.us as well.
All the elementary is encouraged to dress like a farmer/rancher to help Amanda celebrate her new book!

The following students need to pay for their prom shirts ASAP: Cassidy Slykhuis, Noah Wormstadt, Aiden Wormstadt, Alex Wormstadt, Cole Moody, and Jenna Stephens.

Dayton Easton, and Cassidy Slykhuis, please turn in your b-ball uniforms.

Prom pictures for Juniors/Seniors begin at 3 pm and Freshmen/Sophomores begin at 3:45.   The photographers have two proms this year so students need to be here ready to go at their designated time.

ACADEMICS
The mandatory science testing window is April 1-May 3rd for grades 5,8, and 11th.  Please check with your child's teacher for specific dates for test administration.


Beginning on March 25th and 27th, students in grades 7th and 8th will take the Smarter Balanced Assessment in English Language Arts & Literacy.  Grade 6 will begin on April 9th, 10th and 11th.  The purpose of the attached link is to help in your understanding of the assessment, as well as providing a few ideas for improving your child's preparedness.


Eighth grade will do CPR training March 28th


Poppy Posters are due March 30th.

Spring will come and so will pre-school screening!!!  If you are unsure if we have your little ones on our list, please call the school 495-4183 or an e-mail to mary.ackman@k12.sd.us.  We are looking for any one under the age of 4, so spread the word to family and friends please!!!!

The date has been set for Pre-K Screening - May 3rd.  Letters with time slots and more information will be sent out sometime after mid-April.  Please note if you have a pre-schooler this year they will not have school May 3rd.

SPORTS

Due to team photos happening on Wednesday, we are having a joint practice at SC that day and will be having a Home practice on Thursday instead of a joint.

We will be taking spring pictures at Sanborn Central on Wednesday, March 27th.  Golf will start it off at 2:30 followed by the track team.  Be sure to have your order form and payment at the time of pictures.



Soccer Players-The 1st practice and parent meeting is set for April 2nd as long as Mother Nature gives us some dry weather.  Watch for updates as the time gets closer.

  • We will not be attending the April 1st track meet in Brookings.
  • A JH track meet in Mt. Vernon has been added to the schedule April 4th(time tbd)
  • A HS track meet in Freeman has been rescheduled from Wed, May 1st to April 30th with a 1:00 start time
The golf schedule has been released with an April 5th start date at the Class B Classic in Mitchell.

COUNSELOR
Boys State application sign up here: http://www.southdakotaboysstate.com/  The deadline is April 1st.

April 1st, 2nd, 8th, and 9th Mitchell HS will have an ACT prep class.  The cost is $55 and space is limited.

The Greater Huron Development Corporation is hosting a Career Expo on May 1,  from 1:30 pm to 6:30 pm at the Huron Campus Center. Area businesses will be on hand to present information about part-time, full-time, and seasonal job openings as well as job-shadowing and internship opportunities.  Post-secondary school representatives will also be on hand to present information about their institutions.

2019 South Dakota Youth Trooper Academy - June 24th-28th - Applications Due March 22nd. Interested? See Mrs. Johnson.

Design Boot Camps are offered each summer at the Institute of Design & Technology SD take place May through August.

Band/Vocal
The 2019 vocal contest for 5th -12th grade students will be held on Friday, March 29th in the music room.  The contest will begin at 12:45 at Sanborn Central and 2:30 in Woonsocket. All students involved will perform at their respective schools. Parents are invited and encouraged to listen to your child’s performance. Help Wanted
The Sanborn County Conservation Office is now taking applications for Tree Crew, and fabric laying for the 2019 planting season. This is a lot of fun and a rewarding seasonal job. You must be 16 years of age to apply.
Applications must be turned in by April 9th. You may pick up an application at 203 W 7th St Suite 200 at the USDA Service Center Building in Woonsocket. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me of stop by.

Alexandria will be hosting a 3on3 Basketball Tournament Saturday April 6th for grades 2-8.  An entry fee of $50 per team is required and no entries will be taken after April 2nd.
