Tanna’s Believe Challenge Bean Bag Tournament Summary: A
good crowd was on hand at the Stekl Shop near Letcher on Saturday night in
support of the Tanna Kingsbury Believe Scholarship Challenge Supper and Bean
Bag Tournament. An estimated 350 pork loin meals were served. The Bean Bag
Tournament had 64 teams. Winning first place were Cote Hinker and Eric Denning.
Second place went to Sarah Morgan and Wyatt Feistner, and third place winners
were Tatem Kingsbury and Nathan Effling. The crowd enthusiastically
participated in several other activities including Bingo, silent and bucket
auctions, GoPro raffle, chuck-a-duck competition, 50/50, a game of
Heads-or-Tails that was won by Kevin Kingsbury, a roll-over auction of Tanna’s
steer which raised a total of over $9,000 itself, live auctions of two donated
hogs and a Coke cooler, a photo booth and a bouncy house. Students and staff at
Sanborn Central submitted entries for the name-the-steer contest, with the
Second Grade class name of “Big Mac" winning with the most votes. Not
surprisingly, the generosity of our extended community was shown. A total of
$21,875 was raised during the evening. The matching funds challenge of $50,000
by the Boyd and Dody Hopkins families has now been met. The challenge is
complete and all funds will become a permanent part of the Believe Scholarship.
The Believe Scholarship will be administered the same as the Dennis Ross “Get
On and Learn” Scholarship in that any graduating Senior from Sanborn Central
will be granted a scholarship if they wish to further their education. All in
all, it was a very successful evening.
What a caring and generous extended
community we live in! Tan-Dog’s Team came together again in a big way. Thank
you to everyone who supported the Tanna Kingsbury Believe Scholarship Challenge
Bean Bag Tournament on Saturday night. Thank you to the Boyd and Dody Hopkins
families for offering up their generous challenge to match funds, and to create
a reason to bring everyone together to support such a great cause. Thank you to
those who donated items for the auctions, food, and their time in getting this
whole event organized. And, thank you to everyone who financially supported our
efforts. We think you’ll agree, it’s a great feeling to be part of Tan-Dog’s
Team! -- Believe Scholarship Challenge Bean Bag Tournament Committee
