Don’t forget that this Friday (March 15th) is a make-up day and will be an Orange Day. April 22nd will be an Orange Day, and April 26th will be a Blue Day. Any more days will be made up at the end of the year.

5/6th VB players will ride the Woonsocket bus (bringing FFA members back) to practice in Woonsocket today.

5th Boys (BW) are at Woonsocket at 6:00 today. TS’s 7th boys will practice at SC at 6:30 tonight.

BW’s 9th Girls will practice in Woonsocket at 7:30 tonight.

The junior class has announced that the Penny War has been extended to March 14th.  There is still time to gather up your coins and try to win a pizza party.

SC Youth Soccer Families, 
Please do not go out and buy soccer cleats, balls, etc. until we know for sure if Mother Nature will allow us to have soccer this spring. We will let everyone know when a decision has been made about the spring season. Thank You for your patience. Hopefully spring will be here very soon!!



ACADEMICS
Beginning on March 25th and 27th, students in grades 7th and 8th will take the Smarter Balanced Assessment in English Language Arts & Literacy.  Grade 6 will begin on April 9th, 10th and 11th.  The purpose of the attached link is to help in your understanding of the assessment, as well as providing a few ideas for improving your child's preparedness.


Seniors before you graduate it is mandatory to complete CPR training.  A time has been  assigned March 25th that is mandatory!


Wednesday, March 13th our 4th and 5th grade (12:30) and 3rd grade (1:35) will have a presentation on the American Red Cross Pillow Case Project


Poppy Posters are due March 30th.

Spring will come and so will pre-school screening!!!  If you are unsure if we have your little ones on our list, please call the school 495-4183 or an e-mail to mary.ackman@k12.sd.us.  We are looking for any one under the age of 4, so spread the word to family and friends please!!!!

The date has been set for Pre-K Screening - May 3rd.  Letters with time slots and more information will be sent out sometime after mid-April.

Please turn in your uniforms by Wednesday.  Woony girls just bring them to me.....Sanborn girls you can turn into the office and I will get them.  Thank you!!!

MUSIC
In order for Sanborn Central and Woonsocket 8-12 band students to rehearse together in preparation for Region 5 Large Group Contest, Miss West has planned some rehearsals outside of our normal class period. 
*Tuesday, March 19th -  time TBD, rehearsal @ Woonsocket
*Wednesday, March 20th – Large Group Contest, students will be gone majority of the school day

8-12 band members will be performing at the Region 5 Large Group Contest at 9:40am on Wednesday, March 20th in the Mitchell Performing Arts center. Parents/family/friends are welcome and encouraged to watch their student. Students will depart from Woonsocket at 7:30am and from Forestburg at 7:45am the morning of large group contest. Students need to come dressed in concert black. They need to bring money (approx. $8-12) or a sack lunch.


8-12 band members are now fundraising for their senior trip. Among other tasty items, customers can purchase candy, baking mixes, nuts and meats. Order forms and money are due to Miss. West by 3:30pm on Friday, March 22nd.

I wanted to request if you could share our ACT Prep information to students. We have a faculty lead 5 week ACT Prep Session for students to assist in prepping for the April ACT Test date. I have included the ACT Prep poster on this email that can be shared with students. I have heard some great praises from students and parents in the past, and it’s set up at a pretty decent cost.

April 1st, 2nd, 8th, and 9th Mitchell HS will have an ACT prep class.  The cost is $55 and space is limited.

March 14th is National Ag Day, the ag leadership class has a great opportunity for the Pre-K - 5th grade students!
Amanda Radke will be reading her BRAND NEW book to the students starting at 10 am in the library.
Mitchell-based children’s book author and cattle producer, Amanda Radke, has penned a new book for young readers titled, “Can-Do Cowkids.” Releasing in March 2019, the farm-themed book was inspired by Radke’s three farm kids — Scarlett, Thorne and Croix — who are featured characters in the book. The story takes readers on an adventure around the farm while also introducing fun careers in agriculture. 
PreK- 2nd grade will be in the library at 10 am
3rd-5th grade will be in the library at 10:20 am
All the elementary is encouraged to dress like a farmer/rancher to help Amanda celebrate her new book!
There will be a coloring contest for each class - each class winner of the coloring contest will win a FREE "Can-Do Cowkids" book from the SCW FFA Chapter. Students will also be able to purchase a signed copy of the book the day of the reading. 
Today copies of the coloring sheets and the slips to go home with the kids!
