Support a long time bus driver from Sanborn Central with the purchase of a Gary's Support Squad shirt.
Gary was diagnosed with Papillary Thyroid Cancer in June of this year. He had surgery on July 6 to remove the thyroid and over 120 lymph nodes on both sides of his neck. He developed complications and the Thoracic duct was leaking Chyle lymphatic fluid into his neck and chest. He had 3 surgeries to repair this with the last and successful surgery being done at Mayo in Rochester. He will have to take the Iodine Radiation pills early September and will isolate for up to 14 days. After that he will have X-Beam radiation Monday - Friday, 40 minutes a day for 6 Weeks in Sioux Falls. He is currently going to physical therapy in Mitchell.
Order forms are will also be available at back to school night and are due back to the office by Friday, August 27th with payment attached.

A note from Mr. Flatten on the 2021 player/parent preseason notification regarding football season.https://5il.co/wx12

Make sure your FB athletes are drinking an abundance of water over the weekend. Monday & Tuesday practices must take place during the heat of the day. We give numerous 5-minute water breaks and will have buckets of water with towels to drench themselves during breaks if needed.
I attached the parent/player meeting document we went over on Thursday for your own reference. If you were unable to attend, please read it.
If your JH player was unable to get equipment this past week, communicate with your home school's coach to get equipment.
The SDHSAA requires 2 days of just helmets and 2 days of helmets and shoulder pads to start the season. Also, it does not allow for 3 consecutive days of full pads. That is the reasoning for the 2 to 1 ratio of full pads to half pads.
Football practice schedule for the week.
Tuesday: 3:15-6:15 PM (Woonsocket Teacher In-Service) Full Pads
Wednesday: 6:30-9:30 AM Full Pads
Thursday: 6:30-9:30 AM Helmets & Shoulder Pads
Friday: 6:30-9:30 AM Full Pads
No weekend practices

VB parent meeting will be on August 16th in Sanborn at 7:00pm.  VB parent meeting will be on August 17th in Woonsocket at 7:00pm.  At least one parent should attend one of the meetings if their daughter plans to play volleyball this year, this includes the junior high.

Monday, August 2nd

Attention SC Community Members and Families:
As we say goodbye to July and hello to August, the start of school is right around the corner. With the unique circumstances that the COVID-19 pandemic created we have been forced to be even more flexible than ever in education. To help districts in our nation, the federal government has provided monetary assistance to help address some of the difficulties being encountered. As part of this process, each district has been asked to give its patrons an opportunity to see what plans are in place for allocating the resources as well as how they intend to conduct school business accounting for the pandemic situation. During the district's August Board of Education meeting, held on August 9th at 7 pm in the auxiliary library room, the board will be discussing the plan for return in the 2021-2022 school year as well as its plans for utilizing the federal dollars. The plan that the board will act on at the August meeting can be found on the district's website (www.sanborncentral.com) under documents - COVID - Return to School 2021/2022 or with the following link.  2021-2022 Safe Return Plan

Some of those ideas are centered around the possibility of a new roof for the school building, expansion of the summer engagement program, security system upgrades to the entryway, and water fill stations to replace drinking fountains throughout the building. If you have any thoughts or ideas and would like to share them, please feel free to email Superintendent Justin Siemsen (justin.siemsen@k12.sd.us) or call the school at 605-495-4183. With everyone's help and willingness to be flexible, we are confident that this school year will begin well and finish well.

Sincerely,
Justin Siemsen, Superintendent
Sanborn Central School District 55-5

A parent/athlete football meeting will take place Thursday, August 5th in Wessington Springs & Woonsocket. Wessington Springs meeting will be at 6:00pm in the gym. Woonsocket meeting will be at 7:00 in the gym or commons. We ask Sanborn parents to make the trip to Woonsocket for the meeting. After the meeting, coaches will be handing out equipment to all 7-12 players at their home school. Most HS students should have all equipment from camps this summer but can get what they are missing after meeting. JH athletes will get all necessary equipment after meeting. SC students will travel back to SC to get equipment with Coach Flatten. If that doesn't work for SC parents & athletes, Coach Flatten can arrange a different time for equipment handout with them.
During the meeting, coaches will go over expectations, logistics, coaching philosophy, and answer any questions from parents/athletes at that time.
We will also be doing impact testing to generate a baseline for all athletes in the scenario that they get a concussion. It will be done after practice at the athlete's home school this week or early next week.

Football Schedule for the week
Thursday: Varsity Practice 6:30-9:30 AM with just helmets
Parent/athlete meeting in Springs at 6 pm and Woony at 7 pm
Friday: Varsity Practice 6:30-9:30 AM with just helmets
Saturday: 6:30-9:30 AM with helmets and shoulder pads (half rack)
*buses will leave SC and Springs at 6 AM

Save the date...Monday, August 16th Sanborn Central will be hosting a back to school night from 5:00-7:30!
