Starting next week, Mr. Kroeger will be introducing the 5th grade students to the band instruments. Students will get a chance to try every instrument out except percussion(drums and mallets). The other option this year’s 5thgrade students will have to play percussion is to complete their 5th grade year on another instrument. After the year is over, they will be considered for a chance to play percussion their 6th grade year if they so choose.

August 16, 2013

Back-to School Night is Monday, August 19, 2013 from 5:30pm – 7:00pm.  A free meal will be served.  This is an Open House for students, parents, patrons, and friends.  HS students will register for classes with his/her advisor.  Elementary and Middle School parents are invited to attend a Title 1 parent meeting at 6:30pm in the gym.  All families will receive packets of information.  Please read through these carefully and return the required signed forms by August 26!!!!  Also, no one can get ala carte items for breakfast or lunch until the parent permission is signed and received in the office.  Gayle will be available at a table to collect meal money, parent permission forms, and sell activity tickets.  REMINDER:  Meal money needs to be paid in advance this year.

“Rebel” uniforms will be on sale in Mr. McCain’s room during Back-to-School Night.  There are old cheerleading, volleyball, boys’ basketball, girls’ basketball, and track uniforms available.  The cost will be a free-will donation.  All proceeds will go to the athletic department.

Do you know of any family willing to host a foreign exchange student NOW?  The EFF Foundation has some great students eagerly awaiting a placement and they do not want to turn them away.  There are over 100 AWESOME students still awaiting a host family and they are down to the wire.  If you may be interested and want further information contact Sherry Stilley or Steve Nordwall at 996-3595.  The website for this program is www.effoundation.org

The Report Card for all schools is now available to view on the Department of Education website.  Follow this link and then scroll down and point the cursor on Sanborn Central to open up each school within the district to see this year’s report card:
http://doe.sd.gov/reportcard/listnew/  Clicking on Sanborn Central will open up the district report card.  Colored copies are on display by the bathrooms in the Commons in Forestburg, the school office area, and at Upland Colony.  You may also request a copy of the report cards from the school office by calling 605-495-4183.  Individual test score reports will be given to parents of last year’s grades 3-8 & 11 students at Back-to-School Night on August 19th or mailed if parents are unable to attend.  A letter that gives an explanation about the reports and how to get the information if they do not have access to electronic versions of the documents will be in the packet of information each family receives.

VOLLEYBALL PLAYERS (7th-12th):  Volleyball practice will begin August 19th at 8:00am in Woonsocket. The first practice will run from 8-10:30.  Players will need to have their physical slips that day unless you have already handed them into the schools.  I will hand out a new practice schedule that day and I will try and post them to the school websites as soon as possible.
VOLLEYBALL PARENTS (7th-12th):  There will be a volleyball parent meeting on August 19th at 7:00pm in Forestburg.  We will meet in the middle school lab and I would really appreciate that at least one parent is able to attend.  If for some reason you or your spouse can not attend please see me during the open house.  Thanks, Coach Olsen
