It's been a full week of American Education Week! A necessary shout out goes to the entirety of our staff. It's all hands on deck starting with morning pickup and a safe ride to and from school from our bus drivers, to the janitors working tirelessly in efforts to give our school that extra sparkle. The para's showing a caring hand and hustling from room to room to make sure all students have had a turn with the day's projects, and the cooks making that delectable meal we dream about in our sleep! The teachers a necessary staple to every students day providing that caring learning environment passing down knowledge in the subjects they chose to teach. Our School Board tacking all those tough topics and providing the oil for the "machine" and the backbone of our purpose in teaching. Administration and our business manager crunching numbers and driving the force we call Sanborn Central! Together we accomplish all the BIG things that makes us proud and defines "Blackhawk Pride."

What is PBIS:
- PBIS stands for Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports. It is a school-wide, proactive, team-based approach and framework for creating consistent expectations for all. This approach is research-based and involves using data-based problem solving to address student behavior concerns.PBIS at Sanborn Central:
- At Sanborn Central, our expectations are in alignment with Blackhawk PRIDE. PRIDE stands for Positive, Respect, Integrity, Dedication, and Excellence. When students show Blackhawk PRIDE expectations, they receive a ticket and are given verbal acknowledgement for why they are receiving a ticket. For example, “Bob thank you for showing excellence in the hallway by picking up garbage that wasn’t yours.” When a student receives a ticket, they put the ticket in a staff jar within their classroom. On every Thursday, tickets are picked up from each classroom and are put into a large bucket for a weekly drawing. Every Thursday at the end of the day, a ticket is randomly drawn and is given to one student from PREK-1, 2nd-5th, Middle School, and High School. Additionally, one staff member is randomly chosen as well. When a student or staff member is chosen as a weekly winner, they receive a drink and candy prize, as well as they select from a list of prizes. They also take a picture together as a group that is put on our Sanborn Central Facebook page. At the end of each quarter all students and staff come together for an assembly and quarterly party to celebrate the success of ALL students and staff for showing Blackhawk PRIDE expectations.
All Sanborn Central and Woonsocket school district PreK-12th grade parents and guardians are invited to attend the National Alliance on Mental Illness parent/guardian informational session, which will be held on the evening of Tuesday, December 3rd at 6:30 pm at Sanborn Central school in the gymnasium. Similarly to the student session, this presentation is designed to inform audience members about mental health conditions, more specifically the warning signs and symptoms to look for. This presentation will include essential information regarding how to help oneself, one's child, friends, or family members who may need mental health support. The goal of this program is to educate oneself about mental health disorders, what signs to look for, how to support a loved one with a mental health disorder, and where/how to seek treatment.
