Notes from Mrs. Gassman (Miss Amundson)
Learn the in's and out's of our PBIS system. Here is a introduction from Mrs. Gassman. Stay tuned in the following days what PBIS means at Sanborn Central and how we teach our students expectations.
What is PBIS:
  • PBIS stands for Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports. It is a school-wide, proactive, team-based approach and framework for creating consistent expectations for all. This approach is research-based and involves using data-based problem solving to address student behavior concerns.

    PBIS at Sanborn Central:
    • At Sanborn Central, our expectations are in alignment with Blackhawk PRIDE. PRIDE stands for Positive, Respect, Integrity, Dedication, and Excellence. When students show Blackhawk PRIDE expectations, they receive a ticket and are given verbal acknowledgement for why they are receiving a ticket. For example, “Bob thank you for showing excellence in the hallway by picking up garbage that wasn’t yours.” When a student receives a ticket, they put the ticket in a staff jar within their classroom. On every Thursday, tickets are picked up from each classroom and are put into a large bucket for a weekly drawing. Every Thursday at the end of the day, a ticket is randomly drawn and is given to one student from PREK-1, 2nd-5th, Middle School, and High School. Additionally, one staff member is randomly chosen as well. When a student or staff member is chosen as a weekly winner, they receive a drink and candy prize, as well as they select from a list of prizes. They also take a picture together as a group that is put on our Sanborn Central Facebook page. At the end of each quarter all students and staff come together for an assembly and quarterly party to celebrate the success of ALL students and staff for showing Blackhawk PRIDE expectations.
National Alliance on Mental Illness - Ending the Silence Presentation (6-12th Grade)
On Tuesday December 3rd at 10:00 AM Danielle Leeds from the National Alliance on Mental Illness will be coming to our school to speak with 6th-12th grade students regarding mental illnesses, focusing on suicide prevention. Woonsocket students will also be in attendance at this event. NAMI Ending the Silence is a presentation designed to give audience members an opportunity to learn about Mental Illness through an informative PowerPoint and short videos. This presentation outlines symptoms of mental health conditions and gives attendees ideas about how to help themselves, friends, or family members who may need support. Handouts and resources will also be provided at this event.

National Alliance on Mental Illness - PreK-12th Grade Parent/Guardian Informational Presentation
All Sanborn Central and Woonsocket school district PreK-12th grade parents and guardians are invited to attend the National Alliance on Mental Illness parent/guardian informational session, which will be held on the evening of Tuesday, December 3rd at 6:30 pm at Sanborn Central school in the gymnasium. Similarly to the student session, this presentation is designed to inform audience members about mental health conditions, more specifically the warning signs and symptoms to look for. This presentation will include essential information regarding how to help oneself, one's child, friends, or family members who may need mental health support. The goal of this program is to educate oneself about mental health disorders, what signs to look for, how to support a loved one with a mental health disorder, and where/how to seek treatment.
NAMI Presentation Flyer
Please reach out to Mrs. Gassman with any questions or concerns regarding either the parent/guardian program or the student program. Although this is a difficult topic, it is one highly important topic that needs to be addressed and discussed in an effort to reduce the negative stigma around mental health. We really hope to see a good turnout at the parent/guardian program. We hope to see you there!

Friday, November 22nd 2024-Blue Day

Our deepest condolence go out to our Kindergarten teacher Mrs. Schmit in the loss of her father Howard Moore.
https://www.bittnerfuneralchapel.com/howard_moore

It's been a full week of American Education Week! A necessary shout out goes to the entirety of our staff. It's all hands on deck starting with morning pickup and a safe ride to and from school from our bus drivers, to the janitors working tirelessly in efforts to give our school that extra sparkle. The para's showing a caring hand and hustling from room to room to make sure all students have had a turn with the day's projects, and the cooks making that delectable meal we dream about in our sleep! The teachers a necessary staple to every students day providing that caring learning environment passing down knowledge in the subjects they chose to teach. Our School Board tacking all those tough topics and providing the oil for the "machine" and the backbone of our purpose in teaching. Administration and our business manager crunching numbers and driving the force we call Sanborn Central! Together we accomplish all the BIG things that makes us proud and defines "Blackhawk Pride."

A "Super Hero" matinee will be held on Friday at 2:00. Students in grades Pre-K-8 are invited. A $.25 admission for students will be charged. Any community member (adult) who attends will pay the normal fee of $5
Here is the schedule for the rest of the week for the play.
Today's Performance matinee (Dress rehearsal) for school at 2:00 and a 7PM performance.
Please be there at 5:45 this evening if you are in the play.

Members of the oral interp team are headed to Aberdeen today to compete. Best of luck to Temperance, Sean, Olivia, and Lucy. They will depart at 12:15.

We have first and second place winners at the Post level for the Patriot Pen.
Both winners will be recognized at a ceremony on December 10th by VFW Post 2750 in Mitchell, SD.
Ramsey Fouberg received first place. Her piece will move on to District competition.
Brooklyn Larson received second place.
Beau Enfield brough home 3rd place in the Patriot Pen Acholarship Contest from the VFW Post 2750. She will receive her award on December 10th at 7:30 at the VFW 2nd floor.

The Region Oral Interp. results are in and Sean Bitterman has punched his ticket to State! He placed 2nd in serious play and Temperance placed 5th in poetry and 6th in storytelling. State will take place in Sturgis December 7th.
