Friday, May 17th-11:00 Dismissal

As we wrap up the school year, we want to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the parents and students. Your support and dedication have made this year truly enjoyable and successful. Have a wonderful summer break, and we look forward to seeing you next year!

When Mrs. Wilson was presented her Region 3 teacher of the year award she recapped the accomplishments of Sanborn Central. Her words resonated throughout our school and she said it beautifully!
What we have at Sanborn Central is truly exceptional. This year alone we had our environmental science class win the state level Samsung Solve for Tomorrow Science and Technology Award, Mrs. Farrell-Poncelet received the Veterans for Foreign Wars National Citizenship Education Teacher Award, Ms. Amundson received the Rising Star Award from the South Dakota Counselor Association and Mrs. Wilson was recently presented with the Region 3 Teacher of the Year Award. We have implemented a brand new PBIS initiative, taken kids to numerous state events, field trips, oral interp, and FFA competitions, and competed in academic as well as athletic events that highlighted our students’ abilities. We have raised money for the humane society, made donations to families who have lost loved ones, and donated to the Sanborn County food pantry. We have welcomed the community into our building with breakfast buddies, winter and spring concerts, gingerbread house building, declaim performances, and awards banquets where we honored our Teacher of the Year, Robin Moody, and Support Staff of the Year, Jolene Enfield.

In addition, our students are striving to achieve excellence in all aspects of their schooling from fine arts to academics, and athletics. To name a few Temperance Salathe represented Sanborn Central for SDSU Honor Band, and band and choir continues to be at the forefront of interest for our younger grades. Our graduating class performed exceptionally well on their state testing last year with 80% proficient in math and science and 90% in English, which are all well above the state averages. We are ranked the 29th best school district in the state of South Dakota from Niche.

Westen White brought home first place at the post level in the Patriot's Pen writing competition and Hudson Fouberg received first place at the post level and third place at the district level for the Voice of Democracy through the VFW. Bryce Larson was selected for the Nedved Media Boys Elite Eight Academic Award and represented our school at State LDE’s for Prepared Speaking. Isabella Bitterman rounded out her sixth year of competing at a varsity level for oral interp by making a trip to state competition. Olivia Conrad brought home a first place for the American Legion Essay Contest Artesian Post and Weston White for the Letcher Post. The elementary students are shining bright with American Legion Auxiliary poetry winners from the Artesian Post being Hannah Hinker, Lexi Fridley, Keira Pollard and essay winners Lexi Fridley, and Mason Morgan. The Letcher Tormey Stach American Legion Auxiliary winners were Hannah Pollard, Brody Uecker, and Adalie Enfield. Essay winners were Brody Uecker, and Whitney Adams. The spelling bee competition came down to the wire with several amazing spellers, but in the end Aiden Zard, Hunter Morris, Keira Pollard and Kelly Wilson were victorious!

The exceptionalism of our staff and students lies in our dedication to fostering an environment of excellence, collaboration, and growth. Our staff members consistently go above and beyond to provide innovative teaching, personalized support, and mentorship to our students. They genuinely care for each student empowering our learners to excel academically, socially, and personally.
