Wednesday, December 13th 2023-Blue Day

On Wednesday, December 6, 2023, the Sanborn Central football delegates met with the representatives from Wessington Springs and Woonsocket to discuss our football co-op and improvements that could be made. During the meeting, Wessington Springs discussed that at their next board meeting on December 11th, they would be discussing if they are going to stay in the co-op or explore the possibility of having their own football program.

We have received confirmation that the Wessington Springs School Board decided to hold a community meeting on December 18th to provide information and receive feedback on the subject. This meeting is for Wessington Springs’ community members to give input on what is in the best interest for their community and school. This is all the information that we currently have to share, but as we get more information, we will update the public as needed.

The Sanborn Central School Board and administration are dedicated to providing the best opportunity for our student-athletes and creating a positive extracurricular experience. We are and will continue to work with Woonsocket and Wessington Springs to resolve this issue and do what is best for our student-athletes.

Semester test are upon us. Monday, December 11th will be blue day testing and December 12th orange day testing. There will be semester test procedures in place this year that Mr. Flatten has established.
Student must stay for the entirety of the class during semester tests.
Students do not get to leave class early when they are done, this will ensure that they do not rush through the test, or create unnecessary traffic in the hallways.
Students are to sign in and out in the office if they are leaving.
High school students are not required to attend Monday or Tuesday if they do not have a test during that class.
As usually December 20th will be an optional day for both MS and HS and students are not required to attend. We will dismiss at 11:00.

Second quarter/1st semester report cards will be sent home on January 3rd for grades Pre-K-12th

The Sanborn Central HS Student Council will be accepting donations for the food pantry in the form of paper towels, toilet paper, shampoo, conditioner, laundry detergent etc. Please drop off at the school from December 4th-15th.  
Toilet-Tree Information

Pre-K through 12th grade students will be watching the Grinch on Wednesday, December 13th to celebrate our successful second quarter! Students and Staff are invited to wear their comfiest Christmas pajamas on Wednesday! Please bring a pillow and a blanket, popcorn will be provided.

The colony Christmas program has been postponed to Monday, December 18, 2023 thank you.

Pep-Band please report to Woonsocket between 5:30-6:00.  We will play before the Girls Varsity game, at the half; before the Boy's Varsity game and at the half as well.  This will be the same schedule next Tuesday, December 19th.  Please wear your SC-W Band shirt or Blackhawk Spirit wear tonight.  We will wear Ugly Christmas sweaters/t-shirts next week!

Notes from Ms. Amundson

The Sanborn Central and Woonsocket FAFSA Night 2024 has officially been scheduled for Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at 6:00 PM at the Woonsocket school in Charley Larson's classroom. We have been alternating locations every year, and this year it is Woonsocket's turn to host the event.
The newest addition this year is the presentation will be offered via Zoom as well! Our Zoom speaker is from Mapping Your Future, and she will be relaying all the important information you need to know about completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). If your child is attending college next fall (2024), I highly recommend completing the FAFSA, which is the application to potentially receive grants (free government money), subsidized loans (do not accrue interest while in school), and unsubsidized loans (interest accrues while in school), that your student can accept or deny, but will ultimately help your child pay for college.
I have been told that there are several changes happening with the FAFSA this year, so I highly recommend that you attend this presentation to learn more about the FAFSA in general, as well as the new changes. 
Before you attend the presentation, I highly suggest that you complete an FSA ID. I emailed all senior parents a document that will help you complete the steps to creating an FSA ID, which has to be done before you fill out the FAFSA. If you have created an FSA ID for yourself to help your older children complete the FAFSA in the past, you will use that same FSA ID to sign all of your children's FAFSA forms. Additionally, your senior child will create their own unique FSA ID. You both will need an FSA ID to complete the FAFSA.

Most of the time a coach will be there before and after practices so if kids want to shoot around or want more 1 on 1 time you can do so. The practices will be with a large group and several parents helping our with different stations to learn the fundamentals of basketball.

Kara Wormstadt invites you to help with the Christmas Food Drive going on from December 5th-15th. Please bring your Non-Perishable Foods to the SC School, Country Pumper, Woony Foods, and Cortrust Bank (Artesian or Letcher) to help with a great cause. All donations will go to the Sanborn Co. Food Pantry.
Food Drive

The Artesian Community Improvement Association will be holding their annual Membership Drive/Ham Drawing on Friday, December 15, 2023 at the Artesian Community Center. Supper will be served at 6:30pm, followed by a ham drawing and a visit from Santa!  Membership dues are $20 per family and go towards summer youth programs and community events.

February 10th join Artesian Fire Department in hosting a cancer benefit for Brad Zobel. Brad is a firefighter and the department secretary and has been diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer that has spread to his liver.
Doors open at 4 with a 5:30 supper and auction. The meal will be a whole hog BBQ and a free will donation for Brad hosted by the Fire Department. A engraved Ruger 10-22 and a Henry .22 Magnum Lever Action will be on the gun raffle.

Sophie Kelly and Letcher Junior Post 93 Legion Auxiliary are collecting gently used shoes for Veterans again this year. A collection box is located outside the office.
