Notes from Ms. Amundson
Yesterday, Ms. Amundson and Mrs. Wilson took the freshmen class to Alexandria, SD for the Freshmen Impact event hosted by Hanson High School and local law enforcement. Topics included safe social media usage, healthy relationships, addiction, mental health, seatbelt safety, boat safety, and really emphasized the importance of finding a safe ride home. Overall, the event focused on making good choices and how even one bad choice can negatively impact the rest of one's life. It was a full, fun day and we hope it was an "impactful" experience for our freshmen! We will plan on taking students to this event again next year.

Looking ahead; Ms. Amundson and Mrs. Wilson will be taking the juniors and seniors to Madison, SD via Gary Goudy's bus for the college and career fair and tour of Dakota State University on Tuesday, September 26. Students are signed up and ready to go and just need to bring a water bottle and $14 for the buffet at Pizza Ranch for lunch. Please reach out to Ms. Amundson with any questions or concerns. Students will be back by the end of the day in time for after-school activities.

"I am reaching out to you to inform you about the opportunity for Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors to take the ACT (American College Test) here at Sanborn Central, during the regular school day.

I am completing the contracts and information necessary to administer the ACT test to students here at the school. My hope is that more students will take the ACT if it is here at the school during the regular school day, and they do not have to travel to a testing center on a Saturday. Taking the ACT in a comfortable learning environment that they are used to testing and learning in is also a benefit of ACT District Testing.
The date is not confirmed yet, but as of right now it will be on Tuesday, October 17 in the morning. The cost will be around $51.75 per student to take all 4 sections of the ACT, which is a discounted price.
The ACT is comprised of 4 subjects; math, reading, english, and science. The ACT is "superscored," which means that no matter how many times a student takes the ACT, they will always take the student's best score in each subject. This is very helpful in improving overall ACT composite scores. I encourage students to aim for a 24 overall score as the SD Opportunity Scholarship requires a 24.
Students are not required to take the ACT test here at the school, but I do encourage students to do so as it is a great opportunity.
I have talked to all students in 10th, 11th, and 12th grade regarding this opportunity, and some students have already informed me that they would like to take the ACT test here at the school. If you would like your student to take the ACT, please discuss this with your child and either you or your child can let me know so I can add them to the list. Please let me know by this Thursday night if possible.
Please reach out with any questions or concerns!
Ms. Logan Amundson
