School Dismisses at 11:00 today and resumes on January 4^th bright and early at 8:15!

The winners of the Junior Class Parking Spot are Sandy Selland and Barb and Arlan Selland!  Pleasant Parking and thanks so much from the Junior Class!!

Junior High Boys Basketball will practice at Sanborn Central at 5:30 December 28th.  December 29^th and 30^th they will practice in Woonsocket at 5:30.  The suburban will leave SC at 5:15.  Coach Flatten

The office will close at noon today, be open December 28th, 29th, and 30th from 8:00-3:00 and December 31st from 8:00 to noon.

The Sanborn Central Drama Department is working on the one-act play for competition in Huron.  The play NIGHT OF THE LIVID DAD is the story of a dad dealing with his daughter's first date.  Students particpating are: Tyler Johnson, Breanne Brandenburg, Amber Cheeseman, Koby Larson, Renee Farmer, and Cole Moody.  Catherine Bechen and Byron Jessen make up the crew.  The play is under the direction of Mrs. Danek.  the cast is in need of a few props.  If anyone has a futon that they could give up for three weeks, and if anyone gets an appliance cardboard box over the holiday or in early January, the cast can use it.

Seniors - There is now a link on the Sanborn Central school site to take you to FAFSA and Scholarship information website. Please check the site periodically as I update it often. It is located on the "High School" pages under LINKS. The Build Dakota Scholarship is due December 31st. and is an important scholarship for those attending Tech schools. 

Winterguard will be practicing in the SC gym Wednesday, December 23^rd from 8:00-noon

ACADEMICS

There will be a change to our Tutoring Program when we come back from Christmas Break!  Tuesday’s will be open to HS and MS students (no elementary).  Thursday’s will be open to just elementary students!  The schedules (as always) are posted outside of the Title Room. 

ATHLETICS

The Blackhawk Boys BB team won the battle of unbeaten last night over Mt Vernon/Plankinton by a score of 64-56.  Helping the cause were:  Dillon-21 pts,5 reb, 1 ast ,1 st;  Trevor-3 ast;  Tucker-5 pts,5 reb ,4 ast,3 st;  Trent-2 reb,3 ast,1 st;  Josh- 15 pts,6 reb,1 st;   Brady-19 pts,8 reb;  Rex-2 pts;   Wyatt-2 pts, 1 reb.    The team shot 20-44 FG for 45.5%    22-33 FT for 66.7% and outrebounded them 27-23.  Coach Olson’s comments:  This was a big conference win over a Class A opponent.  We knew they were a fast team but I felt we were still kind of surprised that first qtr.  After adjusting to it I thought we played very well defensively holding them to 6 pts in the 2^nd qt.  We really had trouble getting into any of our offensive sets throughout the game because of their pressure so we just stayed with our regular motion offense and we were able to work together to get some good looks at the basket.  We didn’t get as many shots up as we normally would like to but we were pretty efficient when we did.  I thought all 7 of our seniors stepped up and led us in some way.  Our players off the bench tonight of Rex, Garrett Larson, Trent, and Wyatt gave us some great minutes.

COMMUNITY

The Artesian Community Improvement Association will be holding their annual Ham drawing/Membership Drive on Friday, December 18th, 2015 at the Artesian Community Center. Supper will be served at 6:30. Drawings and a visit from Santa will follow! Membership dues are $20 a couple and go towards summer youth programs and community events.

FFA

FFA Membership Dues ($20) must be paid by the end of the semester!  Anyone who has not paid by the end of the semester will not be attending the Redfield CDEs in March.  Ask Mr. Gross if you are unsure if you have paid or not.

Last call on Extra FFA Fundraising sales:  There may be 3 butter braids to sell as extra but I’m waiting till I talk to a student tomorrow to go ahead with that.  So at this point this is what is left.  It will be first come, first serve.  Contact Mr. Gross at shane.gross@k12.sd.us

JUNIOR CLASS FUND RAISING

PARKING SPOT BID IS CURRENTLY AT $250.00 and $250.00!  Keep thinking about that long walk from the back of the parking lot when the wind is blowing 75 mph!

The junior class will be starting their annual fundraisers.

1.    The board is full – thank you one and all!

          2.  We will also have a silent auction for the 2 parking spots closest to the back doors.  You may start bidding today.  Bidders will be consistently notified of any changes.  Bidding will end at noon on December 22^nd!

Orange Day – Tutoring

Happy Birthday Amber Schelske!

HS Girls and HS Boys practice at SC today.

Basketball pictures will be taken at 2:30 at Sanborn Central.

There will be no vocal this afternoon.   6^th grade will have study hall at 1:53 in Mrs. Farmer’s room.  7/8^th will have study hall at 2:39 in the music room with Mrs. Vermeulen.

Correction – there is no Pep Band on the 21^st.

Academics

To accommodate for lost time, December 22nd we will have a full day of school with Blue Semester Testing, December 21st will be Orange Semester Testing, December 23rd we will dismiss at 11:00 for Christmas Break. 

MS/EL Grades need to be posted no later than noon on December 22^nd.

ATHLETICS

A couple of parents are looking into offering some practices for 5/6^th boys with the possibility of going to some tournaments. Letters were sent home with all 5/6^th boys yesterday.  More information can be found at

Bailey Moody is offering a 5/6^th grade volleyball camp consisting of the fundamentals and basic skills of the sport.  A great introduction for all upcoming athletes!  She would like to keep the camp size at approximately 20 participants.  Cost is $25.00 with money being donated to the Sanford Children’s Castle. Bountiful Baskets has contribution on Monday at 10am and goes until Tuesday 10pm. This will be the last drop for the 2015 year with the next contribution date for the new year of 2016 on Monday January 11 for pickup on the 16th! We would like to thank everyone that has participated in the year 2015 and hope to see many more of you during the 2016 year! Merry Christmas!
