Sanborn Central 2020 Christmas Concert
Our music staff, Mrs. Easton and Mrs. Hofer and their students have been working hard to learn and prepare pieces of music to celebrate the season. As a district, it is important that we give them all an opportunity to demonstrate what they have learned and allow a platform to perform on, even in this difficult time that we are experiencing related to the COVID-19 pandemic. To ensure that we have a program, we are changing the format this year. On December 8th, 2020, our concert will be held as scheduled. However, the timeframe will be changed. Beginning at 1:30 pm, the SC Middle and High School will kick off the afternoon with their portion of the program. Once they have completed their concert, they will then be released back to class for the remainder of the school day. Then at 2:30 pm, the SC Elementary School portions of the concert will commence.

Regarding attendance, we encourage all in-house family members to come and enjoy the program. If extended family would like to attend, this will be allowed as well. Currently at SC we are in our “BLUE” level of our Stay Well Plan, which means that we will require anyone in our building to wear a mask while inside and social distancing will be practiced. We will not have any refreshments as in the past and unfortunately Santa Clause will not be able to be in attendance this year. Also, this concert will be broadcast on our Santel channel as well as live streamed for those who would like to watch but cannot or choose not to attend in person.

We appreciate all the understanding and patience that everyone has had throughout this year. It has been and will continue to be difficult to navigate. Hopefully, this activity will provide everyone with a little cheer to lift our spirts!

The FFA coat drive will end today!  There is still time to drop off  gently used winter gear at Sanborn Central School, Woonsocket School, and the Sanborn County Court house.  Please make arrangements with your drop off location regarding Covid regulations and entrance

Blackhawk gear is available to view for your Christmas shopping.  Forms are available in the office and are due back Thursday, December 3rd.  Blackhawk Gear

Friday, November 20th-Orange Day

November 16th-20th honors American Education Week.  We appreciate the teachers, bus drivers, cafeteria workers, administrative staff and countless others that keep our school running in tip top shape.  Thank You!

Monday will wrap up character counts with the color Purple to represent citizenship.  To recap the six pillars of character... Trustworthiness-be honest, don't cheat or steal, Respect-be considerate of the feelings of others, Responsibility-always do you best, be accountable for your words and actions, Fairness-play by the rules, take turns and share, Caring-be kind Citizenship-do your share to make your community better.  If we all exhibit the qualities that we are teaching the students of Sanborn Central this world and our community will be a fabulous place to live.

We have wrapped up the regular season of oral interp along with districts. Below are the results of the final two regular season competitions as well as the district competition scores. We have two individual pieces, Shania Cornelius (serious monologue) and Casady Dean (poetry) who have advanced to districts. In addition, the readers theatre group of Destiny Alameda, Selena Alameda, and Rain Swenson received 3rd and are the alternates for readers theatre.

A note from Mrs. Farrell-Poncelet
Thank you all for allowing us to give this season a shot. The kids have been fun to work with even though they have had to struggle through what felt like constant rule changes.

The regular season of oral interp wrapped up with the Brookings Fall Festival and the Lewis and Clark Invitational.

The Brookings Fall Festival brought some tough competition for our entries. Casady Dean received 28th place in poetry. Isabella Bitterman received 49th place in humorous monologue. In serious monologue, Shania Cornelius received 30th, Morgan Hoffman received 36th, and Sidney Salas received 46th.

At the Lewis and Clark Invitational, the team entered all seven categories. In humorous monologue, Isabella Bitterman received 14th. In storytelling, Brooklyn Johnson received 8th and Toby Kneen received 9th. In poetry, Casady Dean received 6th. In duet, the combo of Destiny Alameda and Rain Swenson received 14th. In serious monologue, Shania Cornelius received 15th, followed by Morgan Hoffman with 17th, and Sidney Salas with 18th. In nonoriginal oratory, Brady Larson received 10th and Ellie Evans received 11th. Finally our two readers theatre entries of Braxton Gentles, Sydney Freideman, Aleya Fry, Rakell Igou-Rouse, and Saleena Larson received 6th followed by the group of Destiny Alameda, Selena Alameda, and Rain Swenson coming in with 7th.

Entering district competition was the duet of Destiny Alameda and Rain Swenson (scoring 5th), readers theatre group with Rain Swenson, Selena Alameda, and Destiny Alameda (scoring 3th which also sets them as the alternates for regions), humorous monologue entry by Isabella Bitterman (scoring 5th), nonoriginal oratory by Ellie Evans (scoring 5th), and storytelling entry by Brooklyn Johnson (scoring 5th). The serious monologue performed by Shania Cornelius (scoring 2nd) and the poetry selection performed by Casady Dean (scoring 3rd) both advance to regions being held this week. Visit Mrs. Farrell-Poncelet's website for simplified breakdown of the winners (click on more, go to Oral Interp.) https://insideroom109.weebly.com/oral-interp.html (click on more, go to Oral Interp.)

Veterans Day Video

Veterans Day honors all of those who have served the country in war or peace — dead or alive — although it's largely intended to thank living veterans for their sacrifices. It was originally called Armistice Day, commemorating the end of World War I.

Thank you to Mrs. Wilson for putting forth efforts to compose this video to honor the hero's Sanborn Central calls family.  They might be a Great-Grandfather, Mother, Father, or just a courageous friend that has dedicated time in their life to protect the freedoms in ours...We appreciate you and Thank You for you bravery!
