REBEL PROUD
It is a pleasure to announce Mrs. Tracy Moody, teacher at Sanborn Central high school, as the 2016 Outstanding Biology Teacher for South Dakota.  The award is sponsored by the National Association of Biology Teachers Association and comes with an invitation to attend a special awards luncheon at the NABT national conference and a year’s membership in NABT.  Sanford Health sponsors an additional award for the winner in the amount of $1000 to be used by the awardee to attend the national conference which will be held November 30th in Denver, CO.

The award is based on the qualities of an excellent Life Sciences teacher: Teaching Style/Approach, Teaching Methodology and Teaching Environment, Reflection and Professional Involvement, and Family and Community Involvement.  Tracy teaches several life science courses such as Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, and Genetics.

Tracy has been involved in the SD Science Leadership Cohort to develop deeper discussions and implementation of the new SD science standards.  She also engages in on-going professional development at the Sanford Research Center, South Dakota Science Teachers Association state conference, and engaging curriculum from the Soybean Council.  She recently received a $10000 Monsanto grant to enhance her Forensics and Genetics courses at Sanborn Central.  She is constantly striving to push her students to achieve their full potential.  In her “free” time, she is the National Honor Society advisor, Senior Experience advisor, and volleyball coach.  In the summer, she can be found spending time with her family as well as teaching elementary students in “Science Days.”

A former student is quoted as saying: “Mrs. Moody’s dedication to teaching drives her to go above and beyond the expectations of any high school teacher. She provides her students with a comfortable and organized atmosphere where they are capable of performing many hands-on activities.  Various learning techniques are used in her classroom to allow every student to be reached and given an equal opportunity to learn.  She knows how to make her courses fun while driving her student to do their best.”
Mrs. Whitney’s days are dwindling in the office……June 30th. If you would like to extend your wishes for a fantastic retirement feel free to contact her at Linda Whitney, Sanborn Central School, 40405 SD Hwy 34, Forestburg, SD 57314.  The school’s phone number is 605-495-4183 and her e-mail is linda.whitney@k12.sd.us
