Congratulations to Shane N, Joe H, Jessica S, Hannah S, Shelby S, and Coach Flatten – the Q107 Quiz Bowl Champions.  You can listen to the competition (hopefully later today) at http://q107radio.com/quiz-bowl/podcasts/    We are so proud of each of you!

This week is School Board Recognition Week.  Our children benefit every day from the leadership of our local school board.  Today we will feature Brenda Schmit, a graduate of Alpena High School and Dakota State University at Madison.  Brenda was a Wildcat cheerleader before she became a "Retro Cheerleader".  Brenda is currently employed as a medical coder and bookkeeper.  Brenda is serving her 8th year on the Sanborn Central School Board.  When asked why she chose to be on the board, her response was that she wanted to help in the decisions to make our district great as a whole and provide the best possible education and environment for the children in the district. Brenda feels that her greatest accomplishment so far is the formation of the consolidation that created the Blackhawks.  In the future Brenda hopes to continue to keep a balance of great education while meeting the financial struggles of a small district. Brenda we thank you for making the commitment to serve Sanborn Central students, staff, and patrons!

Michial Brodkorb, from Wessington Springs, is trying to put together a girl’s fast pitch softball team or teams for area girls ages 14-17.  I know summer is a long way off, but there is a lot of work that needs to be done over the winter months. Mr. Flatten has a signup sheet for anyone interested.   I hope to have a lot of girls sign up and look forward to a great and fun season. If you have any questions, please give me a call at 605-530-0515, or Natasha Waters at 605-999-0185.

Huron Arena
281 Conference Pink Night
Let’s get the entire arena covered in pink!
Jaime McGillvrey has been kind enough to organize a Pink Night for the final day of the 281 Tournament. Please see the linked flyer for more information and how to place your order.  This night is outside of the dates allowable for an official "Pink Night", so players may NOT wear any other pink attire (socks, headbands, etc.).  Coaches, teams may wear these shirts as warmups and are encouraged to do so in honor of cancer awareness.  All ordering and money exchange is handled by Signature Plus.  Thank you for your support in this endeavor.

The final date for ordering is January 13th.  We would like to stress that this is an individual decision and not team/school sponsored.  It is up to each individual to order their own shirt if they so choose.

From South Dakota Voices for Children:  I write as we at SDVC are putting together our upcoming Children’s Day at the Capitol on February 4. One of the aspects of Children’s Day is to have some display items emphasizing children. We are developing banners featuring children from across SD to emphasize the diversity found in our children and that all communities must address the needs of children. I write to ask if any of your families are headed toward Sioux Falls in the days ahead and would be willing to have their son or daughter (ages birth to 18) be photographed to be used in the banner. The banner would read something like “Greg B, age 14, Artesian”.  If you know of someone who might be interested to contact me directly. Thanks for your help. Look forward to seeing you in 2014.
