The Woonsocket/Wessington Springs/Sanborn Central Blackhawks kicked off the 2013 season at Kimball/White Lake on Friday night.  The Blackhawks battled hard, but were defeated by KWL 24-14.  KWL struck first with a TD midway through first quarter.  The Blackhawks struck right back.   After a long kick return by Landon Ochsner put the Blackhawks in good field position, Tucker Kingsbury took a run down to the 3 yard line. From there Austin Messmer ran it in for a TD.  Kingsbury ran in the 2 point conversion and the score was tied at 8.  The score would remain tied into the 3rd quarter.   KWL scored a TD late in 3rd and another early in 4th quarter to take a 24-8 lead.  However, the Blackhawks would put together a drive and Austin Messmer would score again midway through 4th quarter to cut deficit to 24-14.   The Blackhawks would have a couple more opportunities, but could not capitalize.  Austin Messmer ended with 69 yards rushing on 14 carries and Tucker Kingsbury had 84 yards rushing on 11 carries.  Messmer lead the defense with 15 tackles and Jacob Fouberg contributed 10 tackles.   This week the Blackhawks host Mt. Vernon/Plankinton in Wessington Springs at 7:00 pm.
