Orange Day – Homework Club
Congratulations to our Winners of the Knights of Columbus FT contest were as follows: Girls Ages 10-13 Teya Moody,  Dayton Easton, Katie Schmit, Abbey Vermeulen; Boys Ages 10-13   Noah Wormstadt, Mason Moody, Aiden Wormstadt, Alex Wormstadt.  These winners will advance to District competition in Howard on Sunday Feb. 8th at 1:00.

The Blackhawk boys BB team finished in 4th place in the 281 tourney before competing against #1 rated White River in the Hanson Classic and beating the Tigers in a thrilling 68-65 2 OT win.  Helping the cause: Joe—3 pt, 1 reb, Dillon—14 pt, 10 reb, 2 ast, 3 st, Tucker—12 pt, 4 reb, 7 ast, 2 st, Trent—1 ast, Josh—15 pt, 2 reb, 1 st,  Jarid—15 pt, 5 reb, 1 ast, Brady—8 pt, 8reb 2 st, Rex—1 pt  FG—19/45  42% FT  26/31  84% Reb AD—us 31-27 Coach Olson’s comments:  After struggling with our shooting at the conf tourney, the boys put out a great effort against a tall and talented White River team. The boys did not back down and continued to attack the basket both offensively and defensively, getting to the FT line and winning the rebound advantage.  The large crowd and great atmosphere made it a special night for the boys.

The girls travel to Hanson today with the C game tipping off at 5:15 followed by JV and Varsity.  The bus leaves Woonsocket at 3:30 and SC at 3:40.   If you aren’t making the trip, tune into the cube at http://thecube.com/cube/hanson-high-school-01-alexandria-south-dakota to watch live.

Note – date change: If 8th grade Ag students do not have a project and materials to work on during shop time by February 4th, they will start to lose points.  This is due to working on small projects to assist upcoming benefits.  Mr. Gross

The Sanborn Central Scholarship Foundation will be hosting a Tanna Kingsbury “Believe” Scholarship fundraising night on Jan.27 when the Boys’ Blackhawks play the Hanson Beavers in Forestburg. Events for the evening will include a sandwich supper meal, grab bag auction, and silent auction.  Anyone interested in donating items to the silent auction should contact a Foundation Board member.  All monies raised will go towards matching the $50,000 challenge put forth by the Boyd & Dody Hopkins family.  

Some of the silent auction items are: Purses; Candle and flower swag; MJ Aviation flight for 2 around Sanborn Co. -- $400 value;  Artesian Seed Service package;  Garden products package--Wanda Effling; Lawn fertilizer--Aurora Coop; 3 bags seed corn--Wensman Seed; 1/4 beef-- Rob & Melissa Baruth with more to come…  

The supper tomorrow night will be a ham/cheese sandwich, chips, water--$5 with an extra sandwich--$2

Our One Act Play cast and crew are getting ready for their competition Wednesday, January 28th at 2:30 at the Huron High School.  The drama entitled “War Letters” is under the direction of Mrs. Danek.  Cast and Crew include Tyler Johnson, Breanne Brandenburg, Leah Baysinger, and Allysha Duffel.  It would be a great day for a drive to Huron!
Have you purchased your fall sports CD from the Woonsocket Journalism Class yet? Note: The Sanborn Central/Woonsocket FFA is seeking individuals interested in being a coach for FFA CDEs(Career Development Events).  Students have signed up for the following CDE areas: Ag Business Management, Agricultural Mechanics, Agronomy, Vet Science, Natural Resources, Meats, Milk Quality and Products, Horse Evaluation, and Floriculture.  If you are interested in helping in some way or have any questions, please contact Mr. Gross at shane.gross@k12.sd.us. Doug Barnes (our former Spanish Teacher) is working with a group planning a European trip that will include several cities and three countries.  He has extended the invitation to our students.  They are leaving from Minneapolis in the summer of 2016.
