I wanted to send a quick reminder that Sanborn Central and Woonsocket schools will be hosting our annual FAFSA Night together tonight, Monday, October 6th at 7:00 PM in Mr. Charley Larson’s room at Woonsocket High School. Each year, the schools take turns hosting, and this year it is Woonsocket's turn.
We strongly encourage you to attend in person, but if that is not possible, an online Zoom option will be available.
What to Expect:
  • Presenter: Cathy Mueller from Mapping Your Future
  • Overview: A step-by-step walkthrough of the FAFSA process
  • Note: You will not complete the FAFSA at this session, but you will gain the tools, resources, and understanding necessary to successfully complete it on your own.
  • Additional Topic: We will also discuss scholarships.
This is an important opportunity for all seniors and their families to prepare for the college financial aid process.
What is the FAFSA?
FAFSA stands for the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.
It’s an online form that students fill out to apply for financial aid for college or technical school. Completing the FAFSA is the first step in qualifying for:
  • Grants (money you don’t have to pay back)
  • Work-study programs (part-time jobs to help pay for school)
  • Federal student loans (borrowed money you pay back later)
  • Some state and school-based scholarships
In short, the FAFSA helps determine how much financial help you can get to pay for your education after high school.
We look forward to seeing both students and parents/guardians at our FAFSA event!

Notes from Mrs. Gassman and the PBIS Team
Dear 11th and 12th Grade Parents and Guardians,
Mr. Steele and I are excited to take our juniors and seniors to the College and Career Fair in Mitchell on Thursday, October 9th! This will be a great opportunity for students to explore postsecondary options, meet college representatives, and learn more about different career pathways.
We’ll also be touring Dakota Wesleyan University (DWU) and Mitchell Technical College (MTC) during the day. The Sanborn Central Booster Club has generously offered to pay for students’ lunch at Pizza Ranch—thank you to them for their support!
Below is our schedule for the day:
  • Leave school: 8:30 AM
  • College Fair: 9:00–10:00 AM (DWU Campus – Wellness Center)
  • DWU Campus Tour: 10:00–10:45 AM
  • Travel to Fairgrounds for Career Fair
  • Career Fair: 11:00–11:50 AM
  • Lunch at Pizza Ranch: 12:00–1:15 PM
  • MTC Campus Tour: 1:30–2:15/2:30 PM
  • Return to school: by 3:00 PM
The only thing students may opt to bring is a jacket as we will be outside for the tours, as well as a water bottle. Also, there is a coffee shop on the campus at DWU so some students may choose to purchase a coffee or beverage if time allows.
ASVABWednesday, November 5th at 8:15-11:00 AM (Mrs. Gassman's room) for ALL juniors + any seniors who would like to retake the ASVAB.
