Orange Day
We have a winner for the penny war! 
First place goes to kindergarten with $28.88, second place goes to 1st grade with $23.59, third place goes to preschool with $6.37, fourth place goes to 4th grade with $1.37, fifth place goes to 10th grade with -$0.05, sixth place goes to 8th grade with -$0.15, seventh place goes to 9th grade with -$0.25, eighth place goes to 6th grade with -$0.30, ninth place goes to 2nd grade with -$0.84, tenth place goes to 11th grade with -$1.00, eleventh place goes to 5th grade with -$1.38, twelfth place goes to 3rd grade with -$2.00, thirteenth place goes to 12th grade with -$2.13, and fourteenth place goes to 7th grade with -$5.70. A huge thank you to all of our students for your support!

The 8-12 band represented our schools well at the SDHSAA Region 5 Large Group Contest at Mitchell yesterday. Bands can receive an average, above average, or superior rating. The SCW 8-12 band received 2 superior ratings and an above average rating (2 points away!).
 The students listened, were respectful to other ensembles and represented our school well!

Megan Poyer has been selected to play in the 3 class shootout this Saturday, March 23 in Salem. She will be a member of the B girls team.
The schedule of games is as follows:
2:00 - AA girls vs A girls
3:30 - B girls vs. winner of 1st game 
5:15 - A boys vs. B boys
7:00 - AA boys vs. winner of 1st game

Aiden Wormstadt, Noah Wormstadt, Brighten Hitchcock, and Kendra Morgan will compete at the State Powerlifting meet on Saturday at the Sioux Falls Roosevelt main gym.  The competition begins at 9:00 AM.  Leave time is 5:30 AM from SC.

Boys or girls from the varsity basketball players... would you be interested in volunteering to referee some basketball games this week end at the Special Olympics Basketball tournament. We have AM & PM sessions on both Saturday & Sunday.  Each year we have more teams and more gyms. Volunteering for Special Olympics looks good on scholarship applications as well as college applications. It is also very rewarding.
 If you know of anyone, please have them contact me at the Rec Center 995-8450.

Friday Order forms and money are due to Miss. West by 3:30pm for the band fundraiser.

Prom pictures for Juniors/Seniors begin at 3pm and Freshmen/Sophomores begin at 3:45.   The photographers have two proms this year so students need to be here ready to go at their designated time.


ACADEMICS
Beginning on March 25th and 27th, students in grades 7th and 8th will take the Smarter Balanced Assessment in English Language Arts & Literacy.  Grade 6 will begin on April 9th, 10th and 11th.  The purpose of the attached link is to help in your understanding of the assessment, as well as providing a few ideas for improving your child's preparedness.
Seniors before you graduate it is mandatory to complete CPR training.  A time has been  assigned March 25th that is mandatory!  Eighth grade will take the CPR training March 28th
Poppy Posters are due March 30th.

Spring will come and so will pre-school screening!!!  If you are unsure if we have your little ones on our list, please call the school 495-4183 or an e-mail to mary.ackman@k12.sd.us.  We are looking for any one under the age of 4, so spread the word to family and friends please!!!!

The date has been set for Pre-K Screening - May 3rd.  Letters with time slots and more information will be sent out sometime after mid-April.

SPORTS
We will be taking spring pictures at Sanborn Central on Wednesday, March 27th.  Golf will start it off at 2:30 followed by the track team.  Be sure to have your order form and payment at the time of pictures.

 Soccer Players-The 1st practice and parent meeting is set for April 2nd as long as Mother Nature gives us some dry weather.  Watch for updates as the time gets closer.

I wanted to request if you could share our ACT Prep information to students. We have a faculty lead 5 week ACT Prep Session for students to assist in prepping for the April ACT Test date. I have included the ACT Prep poster on this email that can be shared with students. I have heard some great praises from students and parents in the past, and it’s set up at a pretty decent cost.

April 1st, 2nd, 8th, and 9th Mitchell HS will have an ACT prep class.  The cost is $55 and space is limited.

The Greater Huron Development Corporation is hosting a Career Expo on May 1,  from 1:30 pm to 6:30 pm at the Huron Campus Center. Area businesses will be on hand to present information about part-time, full-time, and seasonal job openings as well as job-shadowing and internship opportunities.  Post-secondary school representatives will also be on hand to present information about their institutions.

The Institute of Design & Technology is dedicated to advancing creative workforce development with design career exploration, creative entrepreneurship and their summer project-based exploration programs.
Design Boot Camp was developed by Institute of Design & Technology was an early pioneer in the development of project-based learning. It is their passion to inspire and invoke imagination for students wishing to explore creative career options in design careers. IDTSD creatively reinforce the importance of math into the design process.

Rescheduled from March 14th to April 3rd Amanda Radke will be reading her BRAND NEW book to the students starting at 10 am in the library.  Students will also be able to purchase a signed copy of the book the day of the reading.  Copies are for sale to the public - you may e-mail orders to jessica.ronning@k12.sd.us as well.
All the elementary is encouraged to dress like a farmer/rancher to help Amanda celebrate her new book!
The 2019 vocal contest for 5th -12th grade students will be held on Friday, March 29 th in the music room.  The contest will begin at 12:45 at Sanborn Central and 2:30 in Woonsocket. All students involved will perform at their respective schools. Parents are invited and encouraged to listen to your child’s performance. Help Wanted
The Sanborn County Conservation Office is now taking applications for Tree Crew, and fabric laying for the 2019 planting season. This is a lot of fun and a rewarding seasonal job. You must be 16 years of age to apply.

The Woonsocket Community Theatre is presenting "Faith County" by Mark Landon Smith March 21st & 22nd.
