There will be a quick meeting TODAY in Mrs. Miller's room at 3:20 pm for any students that signed up to participate in the spring play. If you can't make it, please stop by sometime before then.

Seniors before you graduate it is mandatory to complete CPR training. A time has been assigned March 25th that is mandatory!

MS track will begin on Monday, March 25th.

Wednesday, March 27th-Spring sports pictures at Sanborn Central.  Golf will start it off at 2:30 followed by the track team. Be sure to have your order form and payment at the time of pictures.

Good luck to Aiden Wormstadt, Noah Wormstadt, Brighten Hitchcock, and Kendra Morgan who will be competing at the State Powerlifting meet on Saturday at the Sioux Falls Roosevelt main gym.  The competition begins at 9:00 AM.  Leave time is 5:30 AM from SC.  Make us Blackhawk proud and have fun at your competition! 


Seniors-Santel Scholarship deadline is 5 pm Monday, March 25th.  They can be emailed to info@santel.coop to be sure they arrive in time.  Also there will be an ACT prep class Monday for math that has been beneficial in years past for students.  Mrs. Johnson has more information and the following link may answer additional questions.

Boys or girls from the varsity basketball players... would you be interested in volunteering to referee some basketball games this week end at the Special Olympics Basketball tournament. We have AM & PM sessions on both Saturday & Sunday.  Each year we have more teams and more gyms. Volunteering for Special Olympics looks good on scholarship applications as well as college applications. It is also very rewarding.
 If you know of anyone, please have them contact me at the Rec Center 995-8450.

Prom pictures for Juniors/Seniors begin at 3pm and Freshmen/Sophomores begin at 3:45.   The photographers have two proms this year so students need to be here ready to go at their designated time.

ACADEMICS
Beginning on March 25th and 27th, students in grades 7th and 8th will take the Smarter Balanced Assessment in English Language Arts & Literacy.  Grade 6 will begin on April 9th, 10th and 11th.  The purpose of the attached link is to help in your understanding of the assessment, as well as providing a few ideas for improving your child's preparedness.

Spring will come and so will pre-school screening!!!  If you are unsure if we have your little ones on our list, please call the school 495-4183 or an e-mail to mary.ackman@k12.sd.us.  We are looking for any one under the age of 4, so spread the word to family and friends please!!!!

The date has been set for Pre-K Screening - May 3rd.  Letters with time slots and more information will be sent out sometime after mid-April.

Soccer Players-The 1st practice and parent meeting is set for April 2nd as long as Mother Nature gives us some dry weather.  Watch for updates as the time gets closer.

  • A JH track meet in Mt. Vernon has been added to the schedule April 4th(time tbd)
  • A HS track meet in Freeman has been rescheduled from Wed, May 1st to April 30th with a 1:00 start time

April 1st, 2nd, 8th, and 9th Mitchell HS will have an ACT prep class.  The cost is $55 and space is limited.

The Greater Huron Development Corporation is hosting a Career Expo on May 1,  from 1:30 pm to 6:30 pm at the Huron Campus Center. Area businesses will be on hand to present information about part-time, full-time, and seasonal job openings as well as job-shadowing and internship opportunities.  Post-secondary school representatives will also be on hand to present information about their institutions.

Design Boot Camp was developed by Institute of Design & Technology was an early pioneer in the development of project-based learning. It is their passion to inspire and invoke imagination for students wishing to explore creative career options in design careers. Rescheduled from March 14th to April 3rd Amanda Radke will be reading her BRAND NEW book to the students starting at 10 am in the library.  Students will also be able to purchase a signed copy of the book the day of the reading.  Copies are for sale to the public - you may e-mail orders to jessica.ronning@k12.sd.us as well.
All the elementary is encouraged to dress like a farmer/rancher to help Amanda celebrate her new book!
The 2019 vocal contest for 5th -12th grade students will be held on Friday, March 29th in the music room.  The contest will begin at 12:45 at Sanborn Central and 2:30 in Woonsocket. All students involved will perform at their respective schools. Parents are invited and encouraged to listen to your child’s performance. Help Wanted
The Sanborn County Conservation Office is now taking applications for Tree Crew, and fabric laying for the 2019 planting season. This is a lot of fun and a rewarding seasonal job. You must be 16 years of age to apply.
Applications must be turned in by April 9th. You may pick up an application at 203 W 7th St Suite 200 at the USDA Service Center Building in Woonsocket. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me of stop by.

The Woonsocket Community Theatre is presenting "Faith County" by Mark Landon Smith March 21st & 22nd. Alexandria will be hosting a 3on3 Basketball Tournament Saturday April 6th for grades 2-8.  An entry fee of $50 per team is required and no entries will be taken after April 2nd.
