Orange Day
11:00am this morning ends the penny war as of last night: 1st grade $3.14, Kdg $2.04, 4th $1.12, 3rd $1.04, 7th $.01, 8th -0-, 7th -$.49, 6th -$.60, 5th -$2.39, 2nd -$3.07.

Good Luck to the Blackhawk guys as they travel to Springs tonight to finish off the regular season.  The bus will leave SC at 3:45.  Two JH games will be played with a 4:45 tip off.  JV and Varsity will follow.

The Springs FCCLA Chapter is hosting a Service Project tonight with proceeds going to the Wessington Springs American Legion Youth programs.  Events include a supper consisting of tacos, nachos, enchiladas, root beer float and bars; a bake sale; and a silent auction. The Lady Blackhawks fell to Hanson last night ending the season for the year.  These girls have given us lots to be proud of!!!  Leaders yesterday were: Tesa Jensen 9 points; Alissa Ball  8 points​ and 2 rebounds; Abby Doering  6 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, 3 steals, and 5 blocks; Megan Poyer  3 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists; Tristan Ziebart  3 points; Madi Moody 2 points; and Sarah Morgan 4 rebounds

Winterguard will not practice today and have cancelled their trip to competition in Minnesota for tomorrow.

A group of Woonsocket Quilters have donated their time and thumbs to making quilts/throws out of cancer related T-shirts.  These ladies have quilted 50+ throws and donated them to the Avera Cancer Center in Mitchell for patients beginning their journey with the dreaded “C”!  However they are in need of cancer related T-shirts!   They don’t care where they come from just that they are somehow cancer related!  If you have any that you would be willing to donate, please do so.  They can be dropped off at the Woonsocket Library, the Sanborn Central School in Forestburg, Zesto – 212 West 1st Ave – Mitchell, or Mary Ackman – 214 West Main – Letcher.  Money donations can also be made to assist in covering the cost of backing and stabilizer.  For more information please contact Mary Ackman – ackmanmb@santel.net or 605-248-2446.                   https://www.facebook.com/groups/1466674386988087/

Congratulations to the FFA Coloring contest Winners – Pre-K Adalie Enfield, Kdg Carson Miller, 1st grade Landree Zoss, 2nd grade Sophie Kelly, 3rd grade Carter Edwards, 4th grade Cami Edwards, and 5th grade Morgan Hoffman!  The winners received a free donut this morning!

Mrs. Easton will be leaving at 11:45 today.  HS vocal will report to her.  At 1:53 the 7th grade will report to Ms. Farrell-Poncelet’s room for study hall and the 8th grade to the vocal room for study hall.  2:39 the 6th grade will report to the vocal room for study hall.

Girls will practice at Woonsocket today and Boys at SC.

WWTS meets in Artesian today.

Congratulations to Hannah Dickson and Mason Moody the MS Princess and Prince crowned Friday at the dance!

Good Luck to the Lady Blackhawks in Region Play at the Huron Arena tonight.   5pm the Lady Blackhawks take on the Elkton Lake Benton ladies. The theme is Red, White, and Blue!!!! See you there! The bus will leave SC at 2:45 today for Huron.

It has begun!!!    FFA Week and the members are hosting a Penny War for grades PK-8.  Proceeds will go toward field trips.  In case you don’t remember – each grade will have a bag in the office for you to deposit your change in.  Pennies are good points and silver coins are bad points (No bills accepted).    If a bag has 36 pennies and a quarter in it, they would have 11 points.  Tallies will be done daily.  The winning class will enjoy a cookout with the FFA members!

Spring is just around the corner which means thoughts are turning to the spring screenings for pre-school age children in our district.  We offer pre-school (all day every day) for 4 year olds.  We want to make sure that we don't miss any upcoming students.  If you have a child 4 and under please contact Mary at 495-4183 or mary.ackman@k12.sd.us  Spread the word to your family and neighbors please!     May 3rd is the date for the pre-school screening for the 2018-2019 year.

Redfield CDE is on March 2nd.  The sign up form is on the board in the Ag room.  This a reminder: sign up/drop deadline is Feb. 20th at noon.  After that point, you will be responsible for repaying the cost of your registration to the FFA Chapter if you do not go.  If you will not see Mr. Gross that day and need to make a change, email him at shane.gross@k12.sd.us.
