July 16, 2018

July 16, 2018

It’s National High School Rodeo time in Rock Springs, Wyoming!  Madi Moody is displaying her talent at Pole Bending representing the State of South Dakota tomorrow morning and Thursday evening.  It’s reported that cell service is basically non-existent there, but will be posting results as we get them.  The NHSRA web site usually updates shortly after a performance https://www.nhsra.com/high-school-division/2018-nhsfr-results/       Also watch our Facebook page!  Madi knows that we are cheering her on!

Tryce Slykhuis, Cayden Slykhuis, and Tater Moody have returned from the Little Britches National Finals.  The boys made some awesome memories and enjoyed the experience even if times weren’t in their favor.  We are so proud of these young men for representing us so well!

Physicals will be needed for all 7th graders and sophomores for the athletic seasons coming up. Any other students may also get a physical if they choose to. The physical forms can be found on the sdhsaa website under "forms", then "Athletics", and then "Physical Exams and Sports Concussion or follow the link at: http://www.sdhsaa.com/Portals/0/PDFs/Forms/Athletics/PhysicalExams.pdf

We highly encourage the lady athletes to lift in the evenings at Woony next week, as the following week there will not be workouts due to the SDHSAA summer rules. Also, I will miss 3 of the 4 days next week for coaching responsibilities, but Tarkenton Kingsbury will be taking care of the workouts next week and will be following the same schedule, 7-9 AM. Right On!!!

May 21, 2018

Monday – May 21, 2018
Congratulations to John Witte, Trey Weber, and Trent Kingsbury for earning Academic All-State honors for High School baseball!!

Second round of the baseball playoffs will be held on May 22nd in Dell Rapids.  The Blackhawks will be playing Madison at 5:30. Good luck Blackhawks.

Congratulations Mason Moody - -qualifying for National Junior High Rodeo finals in bulls, bareback and goat tying as well as being named the State All Around Cowboy!!!  Teya Moody, Trey Moody, and Tryce Slykhuis also participated in the state finals but fell just short of advancing to Nationals in their events.
The Nationals are being held in Huron this year June 24th thru 30th.  More information can be found at https://www.nhsra.com/junior-high-division/  or https://drive.google.com/file/d/11AnWsZ7GsckrHcxcS2TahPowgH8uVpYk/view?usp=sharing

State track qualifiers are Caycee Guinn in the 400M and Trinity Boschee in the 300M hurdles. State begins on May 25th in Rapid City -  Go Blackhawks!  You can follow the gals at http://www.sdpb.org/track/2017-2018/
From Coach Flatten - The Sanborn Central/Woonsocket Track Team traveled to Chester to compete in the Region 4B track meet on Thursday, May 17th. Besides qualifying for state by breaking the time standard set by the SDHSAA during a sanctioned meet during the year, the top two place winners at Regions also qualify. SC/W had two participants qualify for state. Trinity Boschee qualified in the 300M Hurdles with 2nd place finish and a personal best 51.03 and Caycee Guinn finished 2nd in the 400M Dash with a time of 1:04.64. Boschee and Guinn will compete Friday in Rapid City. Guinn will compete in the 400M Dash prelims at 1:50 and Boschee has 300M Prelims at 2:15 (Mountain Time). If they both win their heat or have one of the top times, they will compete in finals on Saturday. Guinn comes in seeded 11th out of 16 and Boschee is 9th out of 18 participants.
Overall, the boys finished 8th with 36 team points and the girls compiled 55 points to finish 6th.
(Coaches Comments) “Region 4 was very competitive and we knew we had our work cut out for us to get our athletes to state. Trinity Boschee ran a perfect race and ran 3 seconds faster than in any other high school meet this year to punch her ticket. Caycee came in with one of the top times in the field, but had the second best 400 girl in the state in her heat. The coaches talked strategy with her and she executed it to perfection. She just kept up with that girl as long as she could and outran the rest of the field. We had a few relays get close, but just couldn’t quite get in the top two. Spens Schlicht finished 3rd in the 300M hurdles, Kaylee White finished 3rd in shot put, and our boys 4x800 team also finished 3rd, but we couldn’t be prouder of the effort put forth by the whole team.”
The complete place winners from SC/W are:  Boys: 110M Hurdles: 8th Noah Terkildsen 22.23, 400M: 7th Tyler Eddy 58.96, 300M Hurdles: 3rd Spens Schlicht 44.23, 800M: 4th Spens Schlicht 2:19.52, High Jump: 3rd Sawyer Senka 5’6, 3200M Relay: 3rd 9:42.59 (Schlict, Eddy, Senska, Terkildsen) 800M Relay: 4th 1:44.51 (Schlicht, Larson, Eddy, Schmit) 400M Relay: 6th 52.57 (Boschee, Linke, Gentles, Wormstadt) Medley Relay: 7th 4:43.09 (Larson, Wormstadt, Eddy, Senska)

Then followed that beautiful season... Summer....
Filled was the air with a dreamy and magical light; and the landscape
Lay as if new created in all the freshness of childhood.
