Blue Day
The Sanborn Central Community extends our deepest sympathy to Mr. and Mrs. Danek with the passing of Rich’s brother-in-law last week.
Calendar change!!!!! On Friday, February 10th, Staff will meet in Mt. Vernon at 1:00 for our second SIVN sharing session.  We will dismiss school at 12:30, after lunch has been served. 

No Basketball Games today!!!!  Girls will practice at Woonsocket and Boys at SC today.

Winterguard will practice in Alpena today.

It is one-act play time again and Mrs. Danek is looking for a few items.  We need an old fashioned tea pot, a beret, a doctor's bag, and a smock that a painter might wear.  If you have any of these things and the play could borrow them, she would appreciate it - Contact her at 495-4183 or candi.danek@k12.sd.us

Friday – January 27th – SC Gym – 7:00-9:00pm – an evening full of fun activities to encourage families to be healthy and active.  Grades K-5 /Parents are welcome.  Forms sent home with students need to be returned by 1/25/17!

Athletics
Breaking news!!!!!  Jan. 23rd MVP JH/C/JV ball games have been moved to February 14th at Mt. V in the new gym.  JH girls at 4 and boys at 5.

JH girls will practice with HS girls Monday @ Woony

Thursday the Lady Blackhawks travel to Wessington Springs.  The JH girls tip off at 5:15 followed by JV/V.  The bus will leave SC at 4:10.

On Saturday, January 28th, the JH Girls participate in the CBH Tourney at Corsica.  We play Corsica/Stickney at 9:00.

On Saturday, January 28th, the Varsity Boys participate in the Hefty Seed Classic at Dakota State.  We are scheduled to play Coleman/Egan at 1:30.

Concession workers for Monday, January 30th are: John & Gayle Bechen, Curtis & Sara Adams, Eddie Kisor, Jeff & Melissa Wormstadt

Due to availability number #15 UA QUALIFIER 1/4 ZIP in the fan cloth flyer has to be changed to BLACK instead of RED
Another Blackhawk Gear order will be placed on February 1st, 2017 (even though the flyer says 1/23/17).  Orders due at noon on the 1st – absolutely no late orders!!!! Order forms are available in the office or at

CARING
Paisley King, 6 month old daughter of Brooke (Zoss) and Steve King was diagnosed on Friday with hepatoblastoma (liver cancer).  Miss Paisley is currently at the Castle in Sioux Falls and ready to begin treatment.  Brooke and Steve, as well as some her grandparents, are graduates from our district. I will be doing a Scentsy Fundraiser for Paisley, Daughter of Brooke and Steve King. Paisley King, infant daughter of Steven and Brooke (Zoss) King of Letcher, was recently diagnosed with liver cancer.  All proceeds will go to the family.

Save the Date!!!!!  This year’s Bean Bag Tournament will be played for Paisley King, infant daughter of Steven and Brooke (Zoss) King of Letcher, who was recently diagnosed with liver cancer. The tournament will be held on Saturday evening, March 4 at the Stekl Shop near Letcher. More details will be made available in the coming weeks and a website added. Plans now include a free will donation meal and a silent auction. Please plan to attend!

And isn’t this just re-enforcement of the great communities we live in?????

THE FRIENDS OF THE WOONSOCKET COMMUNITY LIBRARY are having a used book sale at the Woonsocket School Commons on Tuesday, January 24th will run from 11:30 am to 8:00 pm in conjunction with Hanson vs. Sanborn Central Woonsocket basketball games.  There are lots of Children through Adult hard cover and paperback books, some magazines, videos, audio and 1952, 53, 54, 55, 56, 57, 59 & 60 Woonsocket School Annuals.  The purchase price is a monetary donation to the Friends of the Library.  If inclement weather should close school and cancel games, the sale will take place on February 10th.  Call Pat at 605 796 4431 or email woonlib@santel.net with questions.

Josh Mueller and Garrett Callahan (ex-SDSU great) our expanding our basketball academy and have been allowed to use Mt. Vernon as a home base in your area. Attached is a flyer for our team tryouts next Sunday (Jan 29th) for grades 3-8 boys and girls. This could be a great opportunity for your youth without having to drive all the way to Sioux Falls for something like this. We have staff that include Jordan Miller (ex Mitchell and SMSU great) Micheal Tviedt (ex-NDSU) and many other former high school and college standouts.
