December 21st Addition

A thank you from the Plankinton Student Council (I Get a little windy, sorry up front!)

Where to begin.....this community and the surrounding area always seem to amaze me with their awe-inspiring acts.  The Student Council at Plankinton School would like to extend the most heartfelt warmest THANK YOU to all that participated in making last night a success.  The silent auction baskets were complimented throughout the evening not only by our "local" people, but also the fans from the BlackHawks!  The Soup/Sandwich Supper was raved about for it's wholesome family feel and the fact that it was absolutely DELICIOUS!  The Half Time activities always seem to be a crowd pleaser, but this year, with Ron's Market/Jeff&Natalie Briggs Family stepping up to put a challenge to all of us with their 1000.00 bonus for a made half court shot and the first duck in the Chuck A Duck Ring, GAVE ME GOOSEBUMPS!!!  (We were only able to cash in on one of those $1000.00 bounties for the Aurora County Cancer Fund, but the crowd gave a gallant effort on the half court shots!)  The Quilt Raffle will continue until January 24th!  This list goes on and on for those that support this event each year.  Having moved the date up this year, was a huge worry, but YOU made this a great Christmas for the Aurora County Cancer Fund!  As we look at this Holiday season, the Student Council again, wants to thank each and everyone of you and wish you a New Year of Blessings and Joy!
Thank you to all of you from the BlackHawk Fan Club that wore your cancer shirts, bid on the baskets, BROUGHT a basket, ate supper, threw a duck or shot a ball!  You all are a tight group of strong supporters!  Again, I wish to extend a personal thanks and a Merry Christmas to you all!  -Sue Faulhaber, Student Council Advisor

The Blackhawk Boys lost their first game of the season to an experienced MVP team by a score of 80-59.  Helping the cause: Wyatt—19 pts, 10 reb,2 blk   Garrett—2 pts, 2 reb, 1 ast   Trey—20 pts,2 reb    Trent—2 pts,5 reb, 8 ast,3 st   Logun—7 pts,2 reb, 1 ast, 1 st   Jared—2 reb   Shaun—5 pts, 11 reb, 3 blk   Noah—4 pts,4 reb, 2 ast     We were 22/59 FG for 43% and 9/23FT for 39%(MVP was 19/23).  We outrebounded them 39-31 and had 19 turnovers.   Coach Olson’s comments:  We played a team that has great team speed.  We had trouble guarding them early and got into some foul trouble.  Their pressure got to us early and turned us over.  We knew we would have a few turnovers-we just tried to limit them going for layups.  We were able to attack their press for layups at times and our bigs (Wyatt and Shaun) had a very active game so there are a lot of positive things for us going forward.  I think our boys learned a great deal from this game.

The Boys BB jackets are in.  $87- Make checks payable to Dakota Sports and see Coach Weber.

There is one more good thing about Winter—he brings Christmas. Through the bleak December the thought of the coming festival is pleasant—like the reflection of a fire on our faces.... Christmas-day is the pleasantest day in the whole year. On that day we think tenderly of distant friends; we strive to forgive injuries—to close accounts with ourselves and the world—to begin the new year with a white leaf, and a trust that the chapter of life about to be written will contain more notable entries, a fairer sprinkling of good actions, fewer erasures made in blushes, and fewer ugly blots than some of the earlier ones. And to make Christmas perfect, the ground should be covered and the trees draped with snow; the bleak world outside should make us enjoy all the more keenly the comforts we possess; and above all, it should make us remember the poor and the needy; for a charitable deed is the best close of any chapter of our lives, and the best promise, too, for the record about to be begun. ~Alexander Smith, "Winter," 1863

ATHLETICS
The Boys Blackhawks moved to 2-0 on the season with a 58-35 win over TDA last night.  Helping were:  Spens  1 st, Trey—14 pts, 3 reb, 3ast, 1 st  Tater—1 st   Trent—10 pts,7 reb, 10 ast,6 st   Logun—6 pts,5  reb,3 ast, 1 st   Jared—2 pts, 2 reb, 2 st     Shaun—7 pts, 9 reb,1 ast, 3 st   Noah—5 pts, 3 reb, 1 ast    Wyatt—14 pts,1 reb, 1 ast, 1 st     We shot 22/55 FG for 40% and 8/14 FT for 57%.  We had 30 rebounds but only 8 offensive.  Coach Olson’s comments:   TDA is an improved team and I thought we played well in jumping out to a 20 point halftime lead.  We were very active both offensively and defensively.  The second half I thought we coasted a bit and stood around on offense leading to some bad turnovers and possessions. It also showed in our offensive rebounding.  A good showing by our boys though and we will need to get ready for a very fast MVP team.

There will be NO 3rd and 4th girls practice this Saturday due to the weather conditions.
