Today our highlighted staff member is Tracy Moody.  Mrs. Moody graduated from Clark high School and Dakota State University.  She says that people tell her she is very entertaining when eating and when she ties her shoes – ask for a demonstration!  Mrs. Moody looks forward to the most challenging topics that she teaches for 2 reasons…#1 – She loves a challenge and #2 Nothing beats the “light bulb” moments when a student understands a difficult concept.  A competitive drive led Mrs. Moody into teaching as she wanted to be a coach.  As it turned out, she grew to love science and now finds herself so much wiser.  Education and informed students are now the main goal of her competitive drive.  Mrs. Moody – we are so glad that you have chosen to spend 15 years of your competitive drive helping the students at Sanborn Central!

Our highlighted person today is Mrs. Ogle, our 3rd grade teacher for the past 22 years.  Mrs. Ogle graduated from Harrold High School and attended both Northern and the University of Huron to get her degree.  Making the decision to teach was easy for her as she has always enjoyed being around children.  The hugs, smiles, and laughter she gets every day as well as watching the students grow and learn make her job something she looks forward to each day.  You may be surprised to know that another thing Mrs. Ogle enjoys is spending time with her 14 grandchildren.  She loves to travel as long as she doesn't have to get in an airplane as flying is one of the few things she hates.  Mrs. Ogle we are so glad that you decided to make Sanborn Central your home.

Mrs. Vermeulen has been at Sanborn Central for 20 years and still enjoys receiving hugs and greetings from the students.  She is a graduate of Artesian High School and her beloved USD.  Becoming a teacher was an easy decision for her as she has many relatives in education and she worked with Special Olympics during HS and College.  Another thing that puts a smile on her face is watching the students learn in the classroom and being in the building with her own children.  When not at school or a related activity you might find Mrs. Vermeulen listening to 80’s music.  She does enjoy being a “bird dog” during pheasant season – they let her carry the dead birds but not a gun.  Mrs. Vermeulen we are pleased that you are a member of our Sanborn Central Staff!

Today we are pleased to highlight Mrs. Robin Moody, another staff member who always knew that she wanted to be a teacher.  She loves the fact that every day is different with new challenges.  Watching a student struggle with something and then seeing that “AHA” look on their face when they finally get something they have been struggling with makes her day! Mrs. Moody has 7 brothers and sisters.  She loves reading while walking on her treadmill or watching TV.  The Morgan family (Mrs. Moody and 5 siblings) have the record for the most points scored by a family at one university.  The Morgan family had over 10,000 points at DWU and was nominated for the Guinness Book of World Records!  Mrs. Moody – we are glad that you have spent the last 17 years sharing your talents with the students at Sanborn Central!

HS Students:  If you have songs that you would like to play for prom – please write the title and artist on a slip of paper and give to Leah or deposit in the box in the HS lab.

HS Honor Roll and Student of the Month Assembly will be held at 10:55 today in the Commons.

MS honor Roll and Student of the Month Assembly will be held at 3:00 today.

Mrs. Foster graduated from Mitchell High School and Concordia University in Nebraska. She is in her 14th year at Sanborn Central having taught Kindergarten for 2 years at Letcher and the last 12 years as a teacher for the younger kids at Upland Colony.  Mrs. Foster has wanted to be a teacher since she was in Kindergarten.  She would come home from school and play school with her stuffed animals and little sister. She remembers thinking that teachers were so lucky because they got to come to school every day (even though they were grown ups) and have “fun” every day!  She loved school!!!!  Mrs. Foster is a goal orientated person and loves to set goals and watch her students achieve them!  It is amazing to see how much learn and grow in a year.  She is the mother of 2 girls and 2 boys ages 10, 7, 5, and 2.  She has been married for 13 years.  Mrs. Foster enjoys music of all kinds, singing, reading, and leading the junior youth group at church, but above all she enjoys spending time with her family!  Mrs. Foster, we are so glad to have you as a member of our Rebel family!

Our highlight today is Ms. Larson, our 1st grade teacher.  Ms. Larson has been at Sanborn Central for 14 years.  She earned her teaching degree at Northern State and graduated from Webster High School.  MS. Larson always wanted to be a teacher….well almost always! There were a couple of years where she wanted to be everything but a teacher.  She loved school – especially elementary school.  Her sisters were great students when they played school at home which might be why today they are all teachers.  The gals teach kindergarten, 1st grade, and 2nd grade.  Ms. Larson looks forward to the funny things kids say, write, and do!  She loves it when her kids use what she teaches them in their work, but most of all she loves how they think!!!  Ms. Larson plays the piano and has two of them in her home as she inherited a special one from her grandma.  A passion she shares with some of us is her love for University of Kentucky basketball.  She spent 4 years in Kentucky while growing up and being a fan is a requirement of living in that state.  Her dad was an agronomy manager which meant that Ms. Larson has lived in about every little town with an elevator and attended 3 different high schools.  Ms. Larson, we are very pleased that your moves brought you to Sanborn Central!

As you watch the state boys’ basketball tournament, keep an eye out for a special segment featuring Tanna Kingsbury.  We have been told that it will air Thursday evening between games.  The final 24 seconds of Friday’s game has been provided to us as a YouTube from SDPB

“True sportsmanship is…
Knowing that you need your opponent because without him or her, there is no game.
Acknowledging that your opponent holds the same deep-rooted aspirations and expectations as you.
Knowing that, win or lose, you will walk off the course with pride.
Always taking the high road.
And always, always, always being a good sport.”
