The 5th-6th basketball game with James Valley on Monday, Oct. 21st has the following changes: The game will begin at 5:00 with the boys playing first followed by the girls.

Woonsocket/Wessington Springs/Sanborn Central Blackhawks traveled to Stickney on Friday and game away with a wild 36-28 victory over Corsica/Stickney.  The win puts Blackhawk record at 5-2 on the season.  Corsica/Stickney took the early lead scoring on their first drive  of the game.  The Blackhawks answered the score on a 13 yard run by Joe Davis.  The 2-point conversion was good on pass from Davis to Brady Teide.  The Blackhawks got the ball back on an interception by Landon Ochsner.  However, Corsica/Stickney intercepted a Blackhawk pass and returned in 92 yards for a TD.  Corsica/Stickney held a 12-8 lead after one quarter.  With 2 minutes to go in first half, the Blackhawks retook the lead on a 10 yard run by Austin Messmer.  Corsica/Stickney returned the kickoff for a TD.  The Blackhawks put together a drive right at end of half that was capped off with a 1 yard TD sneak by Joe Davis with 2 seconds left  and the Blackhawks held 22-20 lead at halftime.  The only scoring in 3rd quarter came from Corsica/Stickney and they held 28-22 lead going into 4th quarter.  The Blackhawks scored early in 4th quarter on a 3 yard run by Jevon  Hohn and  the score was tied at 28.  Late in 4th quarter Corsica/Stickney drove the ball down to the 5 yard line and had a  2nd down and one to go.  The Blackhawks were able to come  up with a stop with  big plays from defensive line.  With 2 minutes to go the Blackhawks had to punt from their own 15 yard line.  Corsica/Stickney fumbled the punt and the Blackhawks recovered at the 43 yard line.  On the next play Landon Ochsner rambled 57 yards for go ahead TD.  Austin Messmer  ran in 2 point conversion for 36-28 lead.  Corsica/Stickney was  able to get a couple first downs, but once again the defensive  line took over with a couple sacks and the Blackhawks took over on  downs and then proceeded to take a knee and run out the clock and secure the victory.  Austin  Messmer had 145 yards  rushing on 25 carries.  Cole Wormstadt had 2 big catches for 41 yards.  Both of Cole’s catches were on 4th down and allowed Blackhawk drives to continue.  Jarid Bechen had 12  tackles and Austin  Messmer 11 tackles to lead the defense.  This was a  great team  effort  for the victory, but the offensive and defensive  line play was key to pull out the win.  Leading the way on the line was Blake Messmer, Chase  VonEye, Garrett Larson, Brady Teide, Jarid Bechen, and Jacob Fouberg.  Next game for the Blackhawks is Thursday, October 24 vs. Wolsey-Wessington at Woonsocket starting at 7:00 pm.

Playoff Scenario.  The Blackhawks will be in the 9AA playoffs.  Official pairings will come out Friday morning after Thursday night’s games, but it looks very likely that Blackhawks will take on  Kimball/White Lake in first round of playoffs on Tuesday, October 29.
