Congratulations to our All State Chorus participants: Isaiah Kruger, Shane Nelson, Tamra Mann, Breanne Brandenburg with Tyler Johnson, Brandon Jessen, Kyla Morgan, and Maddie Vermeulen as alternates.  Their first practice will be this Wednesday at NSU.
 
The JH & JV Football teams travel to Platte this afternoon.  The bus will leave SC at 1:45 – Please dismiss the players at 1:30.
 
7-12 Girls basketball meeting at 3:10 in Mr. McCain’s room.
 
5/6th Basketball practice begins today.  All players need to get changed and report to the gym ASAP after school.
 
The Woonsocket/Wessington Springs/Sanborn Central Blackhawks traveled to Platte last Friday and came away with a 36-6 win.  The Blackhawks struck first in opening quarter on a 35 yard pass from Joe Davis to Austin Messmer.  In 2nd quarter the Blackhawks recovered a fumble at their own 15 yard line. On the first play after fumble recovery, Austin Messmer scored on 85 yard run.  Later in 2nd quarter Austin Messmer ran in another TD from 33 yards out.  Right before halftime, Joe Davis hit Tyler Krueger on a 63 yard TD pass to put the Blackhawks up 30-0 at halftime. Mid-way through 3rd quarter Austin Messmer scored again a 4 yard run.  Platte-Geddes/Dakota Christian put up their only points of the night with 30 seconds left in the game.  Austin Messmer led the offense with 175 rush yards on 15 carries.  Joe Davis was 4 of 5 passing for 109 yards and 2 TDs.  Jacob Fouberg led the defense with 12 tackles.  This Friday the Blackhawks travel to Hitchcock to take on Hitchcock-Tulare for a 7:00 pm game.
 
At the JV Jamboree this weekend – they split the games.  Coach Flatten was very proud of the attitude and effort put forth by one and all.
 
Good luck to the students attending the Central Region Land Judging contest tomorrow – Garrett, Cody, Trevor, and Jarid.  We'll leave at 7:55 a.m.

We have gone from "Students of the Month" to "Students of the Quarter" in both MS and HS.  We will be choosing them the last week of October for the 1st quarter and will present at the respective honor roll assemblies.  Here is the description from the Parent-Student Handbook on page 8:   Student Recognition– Grades 6-12  The High School and Middle School will be having “Students of the Quarter” for each grade level chosen by the faculty of each respective school.  The High School and Middle School "Student of the Year" will be chosen by the faculty of each respective school based on evidence of overall scholarship, leadership, and citizenship for the entire year. 


Our annual “Dig Pink” night has been set as October 21st.  The new shirt design has been unveiled with an October 1st deadline for ordering!  Order forms can be picked up in the office or found on line in the community folder on our web page.
 
If you are in need of a Tan Dog Shirt they can be ordered again in conjunction with the October 12th Benefit & Pep Rally.  You can also find those forms in the office and in the community folder on our web page.  Deadline is October 2nd.


The Flu shot clinic will be held October 23rd at Sanborn Central.  The forms for the vaccine and the nasal are uploaded to the web site for you to print and return to the office.  A form will be sent home with all elementary students this Friday, October 4th , for you to indicate which forms you would like to have sent home.  All forms are also available in the office.  We ask that if you wish to have your students receive the immunizations at school you have the forms in the office no later than Wednesday, October 16th .  any questions, please contact the Sanborn County Nurses office at 796-4510.

Sanborn Central FFA members are currently selling Crystalyx discount cards through the Earn to Learn program.  Each card saves the producer $40 on 1 ton of Crystalyx Brand Supplements.  In return, the producer pays the FFA member $20 for each card.  This money stays with our local FFA chapter to support our agricultural education program and chapter activities.  To purchase a card, speak with any Sanborn Central FFA member.  We will also be selling the cards at the Forestburg Farmers Elevator producer supper.  If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at shane.gross@k12.sd.us. Saturday October 5th a fund raiser will be held at the Artesian Community Center for David Grassel.  Dave was diagnosed with parasteal osteosarcoma in his right knee in December 2012. He has undergone chemo & a couple of surgeries- all proceeds from the event will go to help Dave & Melissa!   A Bean Bag Tournament will begin at 1:00 pm with a $40/registration per team.  Cash prizes will be given to the top two teams.  At 5:00 pm you can enjoy a Soup/Chili supper for a free will donation.  A gun raffle will also be held with the drawing the first weekend in November -   A Franchi Model I-12 semi automatic 12 gauge (made by Benelli) and a Remington.  If you are planning on playing in the bean bag tournament please register your team as soon as possible... We would like to start getting this organized to figure out a bracket. Teams can still register on Saturday but please do it before 1:00 PM.   Call David Unterbrunner at 354-0030 to register your team!

The organizers of the upcoming Tanna Kingsbury Pep Rally and Benefit are looking for auction items that people might like to donate. Ideas include toys, themed baskets, gift certificates, baked goods, hand-made items, or anything else you can think of. Items can be dropped off with Lori Dean (sdauctions@santel.net), Brenda Schmit (bschmit@santel.net), Sherri Stekl (stekl@santel.net) or at Sanborn Central School. If you would like someone to pick up your auction donation, just contact one of the people listed above. This event is being held on Saturday, October 12 from 5:00 – 8:30 p.m. at the Sanborn Central Gym.

Doors will open at 5:00 p.m. Tacos for Tanna will be served the entire evening with free will donations accepted. A pep rally will begin at 6:00. There will be a silent auction beginning at 5:00 and a live auction starting at 6:30. All monetary proceeds will be given to Tanna and her family to assist with medical expenses encountered during Tanna's battle with Ewing Sarcoma Cancer.  A reprinting of the original gray "TanDog" t-shirts can be ordered by contacting Connie Vermeulen at 495-4183 or connie.vermeulen@k12.sd.us or by using the order form found at www.sanborncentral.com. Good Luck to the Lady Blackhawks as they travel to Iroquois today.  The bus will leave SC at 4:00 with a 5:15 JH start time.

Best of Luck to Bailey Moody as she travels to Omaha to participate in the 2013 Ak-Sar-Ben Heartland Invitational Scholarship High School Rodeo Champions Challenge on Saturday.  One representative from the states of Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, Minnesota, and South Dakota will compete in each event for a $1,000 scholarship.   

It’s eligibility free Thursday!!!!!  MS Updates will need to be completed no later than noon today. Teachers please continue to post grades promptly so that students and parents don’t get a surprise next week.

Congratulations to Queen Kelbi and King Joe- rumor has it that it was an awesome evening!

Band members – Be sure to wear black socks, ready to load the bus at 11:30 this morning, make sure you have shoes, instruments, banner, percussionists don’t forget your carriers and perspective drums!

The FFA Tailgate Party begins at 5:00 with some great food for a mere $5.00. 

Watch for a member of the student council selling balloons to be released during half time.  Cost will be $3 each or two for $5.00.  These yellow balloons are being launched in support of Tanna’s fight with Ewing Sarcoma.  Window painting – “Believe” or any variation - will be available for a mere $3.   All proceeds will be added to Tanna’s fund.

It's that time of the year to pay your Booster Club dues of $20.00.  Booster Club members will be set up at the homecoming coming with SBA on September 20th at Sanborn Central to collect dues.   Some of the projects funded by the Booster Club in the past include: Assistance with room air conditioning, Elementary Book It Program, Children’s Theater, assisted with Dig Pink Night, assisted Post Prom, State B Plaques and hospitality room, assisted with the purchase of the Ipads, Portable Basketball Hoops, new bathroom tiles, and T-shirts for honor students.  If you are unable to attend the game, but would like to pay your dues mail them to:

Saturday October 5th a fund raiser will be held at the artesian Community Center for David Grassel.  Dave was diagnosed with parasteal osteosarcoma in his right knee in December 2012. He has undergone chemo & a couple of surgeries- all proceeds from the event will go to help Dave & Melissa!   A Bean Bag Tournament will begin at 1:00 pm with a $40/registration per team.  Cash prizes will be given to the top two teams.  At 5:00 pm you can enjoy a Soup/Chili supper for a free will donation.  A gun raffle will also be held with the drawing the first weekend in November. 

Mark your calendar for the upcoming Kingsbury Pep Rally/Benefit. The event will be held on Saturday, October 12 at the Sanborn Central gym in Forestburg. Doors will open at 5:00 p.m. Tacos for Tanna will be served the entire evening with free will donations accepted. A pep rally will begin at 6:00. There will be a silent auction beginning at 5:00 and a live auction starting at 6:30. All monetary proceeds will be given to Tanna and her family to assist with medical expenses encountered during Tanna's battle with Ewing Sarcoma Cancer.  A reprinting of the original gray "TanDog" t-shirts can be ordered by contacting Connie Vermeulen at 495-4183 or connie.vermeulen@k12.sd.us or by using the order form found at www.sanborncentral.com. The due date for all t-shirt orders is Wednesday, October 2. You may also contact Dana Hohn or Jill Braun in Wessington Springs and Karen Krueger in Woonsocket for t-shirt order forms. September is designated as Be Bold – Wear Gold – Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.  Lynette K shared an awesome poster with us that can be found in our community folder on the web page.  It really makes one stop and think!
