SANBORN CENTRAL E-NEWS
 
Due to the fugitive from the Huron prison, the outside doors of the school are locked. All students and staff are to enter through the front door.
 
The schedule for Saturday at the 281 Conference Boys’ Basketball Tourney in Wolsey has changed to allow Highmore-Harrold and SCW fans ample time to go to the girls’ Hanson Classic in Mitchell (H/H girls play at 4:00 p.m. and SCW girls play at 8:30 p.m. in the Corn Palace). Brackets will remain unchanged, and game schedules for Tuesday will stay the same as before. Only the game times for Saturday have changed. The schedule for Saturday will now be as follows.
 
1:00 – Hitchcock/Tulare vs. Highmore-Harrold
2:30 – Sanborn Central/Woonsocket vs. SBA
4:00 – JVC vs. Iroquois
5:30 – Wolsey/Wessington vs. Wessington Springs

The Sanborn Central Spirit Club has decided that with their awesome fan base, they would like to do a few theme nights at basketball games. Thursday will be “SCW Pack Beat the (JVC) Vikings” so fans are encouraged to wear green/yellow. Saturday will be considered Blackout Day so everyone should wear all black (with tutus optional). January 22 will be Camo Day when we play the Hanson Beavers.
 
The 7/8th girls and boys had basketball games against Kimball/White Lake at Kimball last night. The girls won, 28-12. Quarter scores were 0-1, 14-10, 22-10 and 28-12. Kyla Morgan was leading scorer with 14 points. Tanna Kingsbury and Kayla Olson each had 4, Maddie Vermeulen and Alissa Ball each had 2, and Abby Doering and Catherine Bechen each had 1 points in the win. The boys lost, 30-35. Trevor Olson - 7 points, 2 steals, 2 assists, 3 rebounds; Trent Kingsbury - 7 points, 1 steal, 3 assists, 4 rebounds; Trey Weber - 4 points, 1 steal, 1 assist, 4 rebounds; Logun Feistner - 2 points, 4 assists, 2 rebounds; Wyatt Feistner - 10 points, 8 rebounds; Nathan Linke - 1 assist.
 
The Sanborn County Extension Office will be hosting a 4-H Project Day on Monday, January 21 from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. at the 4-H Building in Forestburg (there is no school that day). All youth (5-18 years) are invited to come and make a scrapbook calendar. Individuals will learn about design principles and color. Youth participating in Project Day will need to bring several things with them: 12 or more pictures (they can be of themselves, family, friends, seasonal activities, etc.) and 1 glue stick. 4-H will be supplying fancy paper, some embellishments, and a blank calendar for each individual. Great Lakes is sponsoring several college preparation and planning workshop webinars for students and families. “Finding Money for College: Completing the FAFSA” is an overview on financial aid and the steps to completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). There will be two webinars for students on Monday, January 28 at 9:30 a.m. (registration deadline: Monday, January 14) and Wednesday, February 6 at 1:30 p.m. (registration deadline: Wednesday, January 23). There will also be two webinars for parents on Monday, January 28 at 6:30 p.m. (registration deadline: Monday, January 14) and Wednesday, February 6 at 6:30 p.m. (registration deadline: Wednesday, January 23). From Rachelle Moore: For my senior project, I am hosting a 7th/8th Grade Girls Basketball Tournament on Saturday, January 19 starting at 10:00 a.m. All funds raised will be donated to Cure Kids Cancer out of the Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls.  I am in need of volunteers to take admission, be scorekeepers, refs, etc.  There will be 4 games and a BBQ meal. I am also looking for anybody who is interested in donating baked items for the bake sale.  Please email me if you are able to volunteer at rachellemoore-b-r@hotmail.com.  I also want to thank everybody for the help and the support thus far! The Blackhawks have double-header basketball games today against Kimball/White Lake at Woonsocket. The boys will be playing first. Game times are approximate.

8:00 p.m. – Varsity Girls
 
Woonsocket’s Post Prom Committee will be selling BBQs, chips, pop/water and a bar for $5.00/meal during the games.
 
Friends of the Library will be having a Used Book Sale in the Woonsocket School Commons during the basketball games.
 
The 7th grade girls will have basketball practice after school today at Sanborn Central.

There will be another order for Blackhawk basketball shirts put in. They need to be ordered by 8:00 a.m. on Thursday morning at the absolute latest. Also, if someone would like to exchange their shirt for a different size, now would be the time to do it by the same deadline. Homework Club will be calculated on Thursday, as well as Middle School update letters prepared. Eligibility won’t be calculated until next Thursday.
 
Basketball practice: Girls at W
 
The Sanborn Central School Board will be having their January meeting on Thursday at 4:00 p.m.
 
The boys have basketball games on Thursday against James Valley Christian at Sanborn Central. The JH boys will play at 5:15 p.m., the JV boys at 6:30 p.m., and the Varsity boys when they’re finished.
 
Booster Club concession stand workers for Thursday are Curtis and Sara Adams, Justin and Lori Dean, and Rod and Jane Marten.
 
The pep band is scheduled to play on Thursday night.
 
The Junior Class will be selling root beer floats during the games on Thursday night.
 
Fans are asked to wear green/yellow to help beat the Vikings.

The Lady Blackhawks will be playing in the first day of the 281 Conference Girls’ Basketball Tournament at Wolsey on Friday night at 6:30 p.m. against Iroquois. Their next game will be on Monday at the Huron Arena at 8:00 p.m. if they win or at 5:00 p.m. if they lose.

The Blackhawks will be playing in the first day of the 281 Conference Boys’ Basketball Tournament at Wolsey on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. against Sunshine Bible Academy. Their next game will be on Tuesday at the Huron Arena at 8:00 p.m. if they win or at 5:00 p.m. if they lose.

The Corn Palace is offering a limited number of advanced reserved tickets for both the girls and boys classics. These tickets are court side front row tickets and will be available on a first come first serve basis. The tickets are good for all 8 games to be played on each day. Anyone interested in purchase these tickets should contact the Corn Palace Ticket Office at 605-995-8430.

The second round of the 281 Conference Girls’ Basketball Tournament will be held at the Huron Arena on Monday. If the girls win on Saturday, they’ll be playing at 8:00 p.m. If they lose on Saturday, they’ll be playing at 5:00 p.m.

REMINDERS:
 
The Glass Slipper event will once again be held at the First United Methodist Church in Mitchell the second weekend in February, 2013. They are taking donated prom dresses, jewelry and shoes for girls who are in need of prom dresses for this school year. If you would like to donate prom dresses, jewelry or shoes, they can be dropped off with Mary in the Sanborn Central School office and she will make sure they get to the Glass Slipper event. Donations may also be dropped off at the church office at 310 N. Rowley in Mitchell, Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
